I added to my post since you replied but I'm glad to hear that you met your wife not long after you were 18. I too have friends who co-habitated for a long time before getting married and from what I can see they have a great relationship.
And no, it doesn't seem right that your wife won't watch BUFFY but loves FIREFLY. I'm the kind of guy that when I see something by a creator I can really get into then I want to see all their work. Like, as soon as I heard Joss had a new show coming out (FIREFLY), that it was science fiction didn't really matter one way or the other to me--it was that it was Joss that made me want to see it. That doesn't make me a sycophant (Joss doesn't get a free pass just because he created it), but I do want to want too check out whatever is he creates--like WONDER WOMAN for instance.
So it's hard for me to get my head around the concept that someone who loves one thing from Whedon wouldn't at least give something else from him a chance.
I'm sure you've tried bargaining--"at least watch this one episode". If you haven't try and pick one you feel would most appeal to her sensibilities. You also try the "but it's not about vampires and demons, it's about these characters" approach.
If she watches one and still hates it or is lukewarm or just refuses to watch it--then you'll just have to roll with it. And it sounds like you do.
But no, it doesn't seem right to me.
While all this related to the topic of the thread it is a bit of a hijack, so I apologize to the rest of you reading this thread.

At least you gave BUFFY a chance--that's what counts. And I respect your willingness to watch every episode. That's a rare quality.

You know, I did the basically same thing. I think now, however, I have a much better understanding of myself.
It still hurts sometimes, though.

Thank you, Batty.
I still think season 6 was mostly crap. Except for Once More With Feeling. And was Hush that season? I'll watch or try nearly anything once, but once I say NO, that's it, nothing will change my mind.

Well, to get back on track (sorta), I grew up hating the 'damsel in distress' thing, and gravitated towards Pam Grier movies as far as females went. I love Aliens, Dark Angel, Buffy, so a strong female is not only acceptable to me, I demand it! Lesser dudes may feel threatened by the ladies here, y'all speak your minds, and such.
But you don't want to be around those dopes, anyway.
My wife broke my leg in Aikido class, she was all sorry about it, but I thought it was cool. You know, the whole Zoe thing.
Get out there, ladies! TAKE the man you want!
If they don't like it, then put it in reverse and hit 'em again!
Chrisisall!

BTW, I have Same time, Same Place on my Curse of the Hellmouth DVD, and it confirmed my suspicion that I wouldn't really love season 7.
Okay, mo more off-topic for me.

Here! Here! (Although I can handle a firearm well, I am far from a warrior woman)
I did hit a guy once for saying 'holding you gets me through the week' cos I knew it was a ploy to get in my pants. As I hit him I yelled 'does that work?? Do girls fall for that shit??' afterwards he said 'would it have worked if I had said something dirty?' Goddamn low down dirty deceivers! He also later commented that it had worked on other girls, thats when he got a lesson in 'i'm not like other girls.' All in all it ended up to be the funniest thing ever. We still crack jokes about it to this day (although dude is long gone), my friends and I mock each other by pulling a 'holding you gets me through the week' cos its just so not any of us (all my girl friends are like me, and we just laugh about stupid shit like that).
The Buffy test is one of those things. Guys tend to like Angel and Firefly more. I hooked the last one on Firefly, he watched the whole series in under 2 days, and went with me to the Midnight showing of Serenity and declared that this was the most brilliant thing he had ever seen and that Joss was 'the man.' Then I told him Joss did Buffy and he burst out laughing. I think I showed his Surprise, Innocence and Passion and he said that I changed his mind and that Buffy didn't suck. Of course though, he did.
I just realized, THIS THREAD may in fact be the not-so Hidey Place of nice people cos no one on this thread overly sucks.
Oi! Back to the house cleaning!

I tried that e-harmony thing and was rejected, but I was expecting it really.
But the number of people who've been turned down acording to this thread means it's either a scam or we're all freaks.
Speaking only for myself, freaks it is, but I imagine it's probably more to do with scamage given everyone else.
More insane ramblings by the people who brought

Well, I actually know people who met on eHarmony and got married.
But I wonder what the statistics of THAT are.
I'm sure it has to work for some people, or else they wouldn't have those commercials on TV that annoy me so.
But no matter, TWG is going to start a Browncoat dating service on her website for us so we can all meet the loves of our respective lives.
And Citizen, I didn't yell at you earlier for putting yourself down. Thankfully someone else did. You should know better by now that I do not allow people to say nasty things about themselves in my presence.
There's entirely too much meanness in the world that we need to be nice to ourselves. Besides, self-flagellation is very unattractive. So STOP it!
