I surrender unto you the secret place where you can find nice people and you are just going to "give up"?!!!!!?

What would have happened if Kaylee had said, "to hell this, we're going to die."?
Have a care woman! Love is probably the only thing worth fighting for. So it stands to reason it would be worth questing for. However it is true that fate has ironic sense of humor. It's a cliche that the moment a person stops searching for their lover and concentrates on just enjoying their life that will be the moment that they find someone. This is somehow related to that clingyness element that was getting batted around the other thread. "Desparate" people are so less than desirable because they have that psychic aura that tells you that they will be clingy if they can only find someone. "Desparate" and clingy people are insecure and expect the person they find to solve all their problemas and make their world a paradise. Can you say "codependant" children? I knew you could. No wonder no one wants them. No one wants to get into a interpersonal relationship with a blackhole.
Here's the thing Mai, if everything you said is true then you have a truly rich life and have no reason to be "desparate". If anything you're intimidating. Okay then so maybe you should take a break. Here's the thing, you can't pretend to stop looking because fate, god, whatever sees all.

Freakin' A! Looking backward I realise now that I just talked myself out of talking you out of whatever it is you're going to do. I need my head recalibrated.

Oh, and it's strange you mentioned the SCA. It keeps popping up and I always think "hmm..that sounds interesting." and I file it in the back of my head for later. Maybe now IS later!

Oh the ironic paradox of time: If we could go back in time and make the choices with the wisdom it took time to get. I read a great pertenent quote in a cheesy erotic novel:
"If youth only knew, if age only could".
I had the chance to join the SCA at 7 and being a child I made a foolish choice. Years later as a adult the chance came back to me and though I'm in now, I will never stop kicking myself for the missed opportunity. So by all means try it now.

If you liked The Hornblower series on TV then you will be happy to know you don't have to read Cornwell. The Sharpe's Series is out there, somewhere, on DVD, it stars Sean Bean, you might remember him as Boromir in LOTR. A lot of women find him, how is it you say, ...yummy?

I'll have to go with Mai on the giving-up thing. Actually I already did that after my most recent experience. It's a lot easier. Though it's not working so great, at least I don't have to deal with near as many frogs.

Like books? Go to this thread: http://www.fireflyfans.net/thread.asp?b=2&t=14862
to find out how to buy mine!

Oh, I do so enjoy Sean Bean (and I liked him before he was Boromir.) He's in a new movie that's coming out this holiday season. But I can't remember which one...

You can't kick yourself for something you did or didn't do when you were 7!! At that age, few of us understand the complex ramifications of our actions. If anything, blame your parents!

I haven't seen all the Horatio DVDs. My library has volumes 1, 2 and 4. VERY frustrating. But I think I'll see if they have Sharpe.

Also, the idea that you find someone the moment you stop looking is SO NOT TRUE. At least, it's never been true for me.

I must have missed something here. I got all the advice (from several others as to where to look for said "nice" boys. I'm not saying I'm giving up forever just for the moment. Maybe fate will do the hard work for me, maybe not. Until I get up the nerve to search out (or talk to people already known to me) it's break time.

Not the same thing at all. First of all Kaylee is a fictional character. Second of all if she were real I can't compare myself to her as we each have our own personalities, etc. Third, if the man in question is Simon (nice, and adorable, but still very fictional) ... well then I wouldn't let death be an option either.

I DO CARE! Really I do, hence, the taking a break rather than diving into anything head first. I am hoping that the stop looking and focus on whatever else happens to be going on will work. Again, maybe or maybe not. Trust me, I've done the active search bit, blind dates, online dating things, parties and such. Amazingly not all of it was a complete waste of time. I have met some really cool people this way. So far one of two things has happened during this search.
The person I'm interested in, is not interested in me beyond being friends, or on occasion vice versa. Plus, (and here I go agan being all the glass is half full -- weird). I figure no matter how it happens that one person will be more than worth the wait.

Now I know this is a conversation that I do not want to get started. I hate to break it to you, but all people, whether they admit it or not, are insecure. Some just more than others. Being a codependant child or adult has very little to do with what that person wants out of a relationship. If a girl or guy is really clingy, sure they've got problems and one of them is whoever it is that they are clinging too at the moment. It all seems simple, don't go out with anyone who has baggage. Just simply walk up to the person your interested in and politely ask,
"Excuse me, but I couldn't help but notice you standing over there. I might want to get to know you, but first can you tell me are you emotinally stable and if you are can I please have references from your last relationship(s)?" ***Insert sarcasam here*****

I never said I was desparate. Now your putting words into my keyboard. Our perceptions of how we think people see us and how people really see us are usually no where near the same. So, sometimes shy comes off as stuck up. Or nice comes off as weak, blah, blah... Which is where the actually getting to know the person comes in.

Is it bad what he just said made perfect sense to me?

Oh no, they're onto us. We need a better secret hidey place!

I haven't gotten spammed by dating services, but I do get this weird spanish thing all the time. I think it's about time shares and I have NO idea how to get rid of it.

You know, the books are really quite good. Jane Austen was a fantastic writer. Her books are more about class and the roles of women in society and how the political climate affected daily life than romantic novels.

I have actually read Sense and Sensibility. I also read Northanger Abbey. Those are the only Austen novels I have read. Thanks for the recommendation.
