The funniest thing about this is that I heard the movie actually IS crap.
Not woke crap. Just crap.
Word is, they were making a Moana show for streaming and then decided to make a movie out of it. So they cut down a 2 hour movie out of 8 or 10 hours of streaming content and patch-jobbed a movie together out of it.
I guess the guys at WDW gave it a 4 out of 10 and said the plot is incomprehensible because the editing was so bad and you miss a lot of the story. I think at one point they said the movie makes reference to characters that haven't ever been on screen yet, but they're being talked about as if the audience should already know who they are.
Apparently that hasn't bothered anybody except for the critics yet. It's got a 65% critic score and an 87% audience score. The Cinemascore for Moana 2 is A-.

$57,500,000 in the US on Wednesday night alone, with another $8.8 Million internationally for a total of $65.3 Million in 1 day to kick off a 4 day holiday weekend. If it's releasing everywhere internationally this weekend too, this thing is going to sail past a quarter of a billion by Sunday night without a problem. $300 Million + maybe? $400 Million +?
Yup.
$386,300,000 worldwide projection through Thanksgiving weekend.
It sleepwalks past the 3 Chinese movies at this point.
I guess nobody realized that Second provided them with a free download link.

Gladiator II has $320,008,000 after Thanksgiving weekend.
Good luck getting to $625 Million to break even. You'll need it.
Hopefully that new news saying you cost $315 Million to make isn't true, or this ends even worse for you. Bruce has yet to put the Production Budget for it at The-Numbers, so I'm guessing they've been putting out ranges for this and nobody knows exactly what it costs. $250 Million seems to be the lowball number.

Quote:I'm guessing that certain people want to travel long distances to eat overpriced snacks at the movie theaters and use public toilets afterwards in order to support the ostentatious Hollywood lifestyle afforded by $250 million budget for a cartoon where the real work was done by computers, not humans with paintbrushes and ink pens.

Did I forget to mention the urine on theater restroom tile floors and the powerful pumpkin-spice stink from the fragrances hiding the smell are the realest part of the movie-going experience for people with a discerning nose? Long after the song lyrics are forgotten (instantaneously) the odor can be re-experienced via olfactory memory. Smell-O-Vision lives on at your local movie theater!

Oh... Disregard anything I posted about the Wild Robot last night.
It appears that there is/was a glitch in Bruce's system. Now when I look at the top 100 its in 20th place. Last night into early morning it was in 8th place and only around 3.5 Million short of taking 7th place from YOLO. It had something like $476 Million worldwide last night, and now it's only showing $321 Million.
I'm assuming the glitch was last night and not this morning. It would explain how I didn't even know about this movie being in contention of bumping any of the Chinese movies, let alone all of them. I've seen this happen once before when it looked like MI7 Part 1 was profitable last year because of an extra $150 Million from China it was given overnight and then it was taken away by the next afternoon.

The success of Moana 2 is nothing to be celebrated – there is a real crisis in animation
The Disney sequel has broken records after a phenomenally lucrative opening weekend. But this isn’t necessarily the boon for cinema that fans are making it out to be, writes Louis Chilton

It’s maybe wrong to grumble when a film such as this succeeds so robustly. Looked at in isolation, Moana 2 is a bright, well-animated film with a positive message and a strong, likeable protagonist. But Moana 2 doesn’t exist in isolation. Between this and the terrible-looking Lion King prequel Mufasa, out in a matter of weeks, it’s more or less an industry-wide cry for help.
What’s more, frustrations with the contemporary model of animated blockbusters are compounded by the knowledge of just how sweet we used to have it. There was a time, even in recent memory, when studios were releasing new, completely original animations on a regular basis – think of the “golden era” Pixar run, from 1995’s Toy Story through to around the year 2010. So we shouldn’t see Moana 2’s box office as a victory – it’s made a fortune from the bare minimum. Maybe children can’t reasonably be expected to twig this. But for everyone else, it’s time to demand more.

If you're going to make arguments like this, why not point out that no actual records have been broken at all.
Might as well call out the system for everything.
Inflation is the only reason that most of these records even get broken anymore.
As I stated earlier this year, nobody was going to come close to breaking the R-Rated movie worldwide gross, no matter how many times they'll tell you that Deadpool 3 did.
That record was set in the early 1970's by The Exorcist which grossed over $3 Billion when adjusted for inflation, or nearly 3 times as much as D&W.
Regardless of whether or not anything in this article is actually true, failing to mention that Moana 2 hasn't actually broken any records at all seems like a missed opportunity.
