If you gave me 1 Million to 1 odds on Kraven knocking out YOLO from the Top 10 I still wouldn't take that terrible bet.

Nah... Sony is going to end 2024 as it began. In with Madame Web, out with Kraven.

Nobody wants to see any of this comic shit anymore.

Hollywood undercuts ticket sales by streaming movies 32 days after theatrical release

https://thedirect.com/article/gladiator-2-streaming-movie-when

Throughout 2024, Paramount followed a pattern for when its theatrical films became available for purchase. Below are the theatrical-digital windows for four of Paramount's theatrical releases from this year:

• Mean Girls
o Theatrical: January 12, 2024
o Digital: February 20, 2024 (39 days after theatrical)

39 days wasn't short enough so Hollywood decided to make it one week shorter by switching to 32 days after theatrical

• If
o Theatrical: May 17, 2024
o Digital: June 18, 2024 (32 days after theatrical)

• A Quiet Place: Day One
o Theatrical: June 28, 2024
o Digital: July 30, 2024 (32 days after theatrical)

• Transformers: One
o Theatrical: September 20, 2024
o Digital: October 22, 2024 (32 days after theatrical)

Based on past releases, Gladiator 2 is likely to be released digitally around 32 days after its theatrical debut, putting its digital date around December 24 and just in time for a home holiday release.

The above story has a tiny connection to Hollywood. See the underlined sentences, below:

Beyonce and Jay-Z, real name Shawn Carter, have been married since 2008, and Bey has since then wholeheartedly embraced her husband’s surname, even using it to name tours (The Mrs Carter Show) and albums (this year’s Cowboy Carter).

Forbes not listing the “Carter” in her name led fans on social media to speculate that the listing might be Beyonce’s attempt to “soft launch (a) name change” to protect her brand from her husband’s unfolding scandal.

“lemme hear y’all say UH OH,” another fan quipped.

But fans thinking this is a new development are mistaken: In last year’s Forbes Power Women listing, Beyonce was also listed as “Knowles” only, as she was in 2022 (she placed #36 last year and #80 the year before).

And Beyonce and Jay-Z did show a very public united front after he was named in the lawsuit this week, stepping out with daughter Blue Ivy for the premiere of Disney’s upcoming Lion King sequel, Mufasa.

The film marks Blue Ivy’s movie debut, voicing the character Kiara.

Earlier this week, Jay-Z, 55, was accused of raping a 13-year-old girl in an amended lawsuit from October.

On Sunday, the plaintiff, who filed as Jane Doe, revised her lawsuit against Sean “Diddy” Combs to include Jay-Z.

With the exception of A Quiet Place: Day One, it was clear much before 32 days that none of these were going to come close to breaking even in the theaters. The same could be said of Gladiator 2.

You don't hear them talking about putting Wicked or Moana 2 on streaming after 32 days.

I don't know if I agree with the practice, but it's hardly "undercutting" anything. If a movie hasn't made 2 times its production budget in the theaters by 32 days, it certainly wasn't going to break even after that, no matter how long you allowed it to languish in theaters. If it already had done that or more, then it makes absolutely no sense to put it on streaming because THEN you would certainly be undercutting your own revenue.

Maybe that's their new plan. If they know that after a month it's a loser they're just putting it out on streaming.

I would assume that there has to be some financial advantage of doing this, or they wouldn't be doing it. I just don't know what that advantage is, since after it's out of the box office we have no way of tracking anything about how much money a movie makes or loses.

Hell... at this point it might not be about anything more than scrambling to put something on their streaming services to keep people from dumping them.

I think the glut of streaming services is going to be the big Hollywood topic in 2025. The current situation is untenable.

Blue Ivy is a dumb fucking name. What??? Taiquerinaqurea was taken? Is your daughter a Super Hero?

She's lucky she has rich parents and won't ever have to worry about putting that name on a resume.

I can't believe that Kraven made $2 Million in previews.

That's awful, and it's going to lose a ton of money for Sony like we all knew it would, sure, but there must have been a lot of people who just wouldn't go see Gay Denzel in Gladiator 2 and most of the rest of the box office is for kids, women and gays right now. By all rights, this movie shouldn't make more money than Borderlands did.

$2 Million down. $273 Million to go to break even.

Good luck.

You'll need it.

'Larven' eerrr type Crave...Kraven
it seemed like a weird character to push, how big was he as a brand name in the comicbooks and toons and video games?

I didn't know how to judge Kraven I thought ok maybe Sony with this movie could have some trick left maybe in marketing, however its off to a terrible start.

Venom-3 somehow had staying power which pushed it past the 400 + M worldwide mark. This month in box office can be tough, its still competitive enough to make it easy to lose monkey this time of year Nosferatu arrives soon, LOTR anime, all those kids holiday films or Disney Pixar style animations for Christmas vacation period. Moana 2 and Gladiator 2 and Wicked are still making some money. Then Sony will be in contest against itself with Kraven vs the new 'Sonic' which is always a bad sign for any studio. Japan versus Japan?
Is the star really a A-List star Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Kick-Ass, Quicksilver in Avengers-2, more recently Fall-Guy a flop. His biggest roles Nocturnal Animals, Nowhere Boy but that's 8 and 15 years ago and those films were not well known.
maybe the star is in fact...Russell Crowe...the bigger name?
Russell Crowe would probably still draw some older movie buff crowd from Glaidator days, Les Misérables was also successful, Noah 2014 struggled to make big money and was banned across the muslim world...not that the mohammedan sand people contribute much to worldwide box office anyways.
Some word of mouth is saying 'Karven' is good and audience critics and magazine critics are nuts....it has what seems to be some genuine online fans...however no shock surprises like Tom Holland Spider-Man making a cameo and comicbook super hero movies seem dead.

So Japan Sony vs Japan Sega...?

a wasted opportunity?

the Spider-Man Universe was interesting characters like the Batman universe but their only success so far has been Venom, when 2022 Morbius came out the comicbook genre was dying, maybe Sony should have launched this Spider-Man universe years back when superhero comicbooks to movies were still a thing.

‘Interstellar’ and ‘Coraline’ Rereleases Were Box Office Triumphs. Why Aren’t Studios Doing More?

By Ethan Shanfeld, Adam B. Vary | Dec 11, 2024 10:15am PT

Tickets to Christopher Nolan’s 2014 space epic had been listed for weeks for as much as $215, after all 166 Imax screens sold out for the duration of the rerelease. Last weekend, “Interstellar” pulled in $4.57 million domestically, more than any new movie, and, at $27,500, a higher per-screen average than top grossers “Moana 2” and “Wicked.” Demand is so high, in fact, that Imax is expanding the theater count for next weekend.

“It reunited people with the movie theater that had been stuck in their house for a year,” he says. “We want butts in seats. We want eyeballs on that screen. It’s just good for the whole industry.”

“All of our content has added value to it,” Nutt says. “You’re going to get something that’s a little bit extra than just watching it on TV at home.”

The “little bit extra”? Not really worth traveling many miles, eating overpriced buttered popcorn, and paying outrageous ticket prices to sit with noisy strangers in the dark then empty your bladder in a stinking theater "restroom".
