Yup.
Studio Projections for Wicked came out later today and they're estimating $114 Million, including previews. With low estimates being the rule on successful movies, it will be even closer to $120 Million than that.
And despite getting a lot less than people were thinking it would make this weekend, it's still going to be successful unless something forces the audience numbers to fall off a cliff. Including the $50 Million it made internationally, It's got $164 Million, which is $19 Million more than the projection budget.
Without looking at my graphs from last year, I don't believe there was a single movie that grossed over 100% of the Production Budget on opening weekend that didn't bring in at least a modest profit for the studio.
It's no Barbie, but it's no Indy 5 either.

So upcoming you have 'The Six Triple Eight' it could be a Woke DEI diversity feminism thing, a movie based on an opinion 'news' article a few years back a possibly fantasy article about All Female Blacks Who Won WW2, its produced by Oprah or something and produced by Nicole A Avant an American producer and political activist who served as the United States Ambassador to the Bahamas.
It seems to be along the line of 'Hidden Figures' politics, how three Black women did magic counting voodoo Wakanda Maffs and it was these 3 women and not Ex-Nazi German scientists helped NASA beat the Soviets / Russians to the Moon.
I don't see it getting a big cinema release.
Sonic 3, LionKing musical seem to be the last big ones that would knock other movies down, there is also Nosferatu 2024 film which I'm not sure of, the Noserfatu budget is reported Low-ish and it has a well know cast
the run of Gladiator II is over soon?
GLADIATOR II was a massive bust in China, debuting with just $3M at 10,811 locations...
https://x.com/ERCboxoffice/status/1860728380775121205
Werewolves an upcoming American action horror thriller
Oh, Canada a 2024 American drama film written based on the 2021 novel, stars Richard Gere who dodged Nam and is now going senile.
Mary seems to be mostly online and not much cinema release, an upcoming epic biblical film
Kraven the Hunter a Sony / Marvel comicbook thing
The Last Showgirl Pamela Anderson drama
unless there some new indie Euro US horror movie or Neflix from SKorea or China flick or Japan anime, its almost a straight run until the end of year?
but Sonic 3, LionKing, Nosferatu can knock down others, also expect some popular Christmas movie re-release for kids during holiday vacation periods.

I really don't understand Bruce's reporting sometimes...
On Friday the title was "Weekend predictions: Glicked could earn a combined $200 million this weekend"
As I stated before, it did no such thing. $114 Million for Wicked, and $55 Million for Gladiator 2.
But then he puts an article out titled "Weekend projections: Wicked and Gladiator hit big"
How, dude?
You just said on Friday your model's prediction of $143 Million was too low for Wicked and you thought it would make $150 Million and that $160 Million wasn't out of the question. Your exact words were "anywhere from $120 million to $160 million".
It made $114 Million.
Lower than the low end of your prediction.
How is that hitting it big?
Wicked fell short of everyone's expectations and Gladiator II failed to make 100% of its production budget back on opening weekend.
Wicked will still make the studio money despite the bad opening weekend if the budget really is only $145 Million, but with low international numbers that budget had better only be $145 Million. I'm not being hyperbolic when I say that Wicked's opening weekend was bad either. The $50 Million it made internationally makes the disappointing US opening weekend look stellar by comparison.
ETA: I have not done any reading or investigating on Wicked's international release schedule. If this is a staggered release and there's a lot of countries that it hasn't opened in yet, it's possible Wicked ends up making the studio a ton of money.
Gladiator 2 is right around a coin flip whether or not it breaks even, and that's only because the international audience went out to see this movie of 3-to-1 on the domestic attendance.
There is a very real possibility we find out that neither of these movies break even. It depends on how the holidays treat them and what the competition looks like.
Gladiator 2 needs $625 Million worldwide to break even. It has $221 Million after opening weekend. (Based off a current reported $250 Million production budget)
Wicked needs $362.5 Million worldwide to break even. It has $164 Million worldwide after opening weekend. (Based off a current reported $145 Million production budget)

If you watch Wicked at home and for free, you can set the volume to perfection:
‘Wicked’ Director Jon M. Chu Says Viewers Should Ask Theaters to Increase Movie’s Volume
https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/wicked-movie-volum
e-increase-jon-m-chu-1236070141/
Tell your movie theater to turn it up to a 7…. I’ve gone to a couple screenings and they are more like a 6.4 :/ if you want it the way it was intended 7 is the way.
— Jon M. Chu (@jonmchu) November 23, 2024

Among those responding to the post was the film’s co-writer Dana Fox, who replied, “We turned it up a clock tick at our screening and it was perfect!!”
Some users appeared puzzled by Chu’s post and were unaware that individual theatergoers could request a change in the volume level of a film screening. Others noted that they attended Wicked screenings where the sound could have been louder.

You don't believe in their other excuses? merchandise, t-shirts, DVDs, streaming download subscriptions...anyways its not Marvel DC or Mario or 'Sonic' so I don't expect them to sell any toys.

plus Paramount suffered with D & D movie and 'Transformers One'? it was one the "Big Five" California film studios, it had a huge hit with Titanic, it made Friday the 13th movies, it helped develop Indiana Jones, Crocodile Dundee, made Eddie Murphy a star with Beverly Hills Cop, the first 2 of the Marvel comics Ironman movies. Paramount was huge, its other cash cow Star Trek seems to have dried up with less people following scifi Trekkie culture anymore but the recent Top Gun reamke was a hit, Paramount has distributed A Quiet Place a post-apocalyptic horror film franchise.

Haha...
Wicked is toast.
https://screenrant.com/wicked-part-1-2-movie-budget-universal-record/
They filmed a sequel at the same time they filmed the first one. Total budget was $350 Million.
They're only admitting to $145 Million on the first one, which means the 2nd movie cost $205 Million to make. And when it comes out a year from now, how about we just call it an even $210 Million with inflation factored in.
If the first movie barely eeks out a profit on $145 Million, what do you think the chances a sequel that cost $205 Million will do any better?

1. Nobody is going to wear a Gladiator T-shirt.
2. It will sell some BluRay and DVDs. Maybe a million or two worth in the first year. That's about it in 2024.
3. I'd LOVE to see them make Gladiator II toys. You could have the G.I. Joe kung-fu grip on the Denzel Washington toy. For his sword, but also for his boyfriend's sword.
4. Streaming revenue is a lie. When these streaming services are losing hundreds of millions or even billions per year, ain't nobody buying they'll make this up somewhere else. They used to be able to make money on licensing when they let somebody like Netflix show it, but now they're all going bankrupt trying to be the king of streaming.
Oh... Also...
That quote of mine is old news after I saw your article on Gladiator II. The only reason the International ratio was so high is because it had a full week head start and likely pulled in 85 to 90 million overseas before it made 50 million this weekend. I put that all in a post earlier.
