Why do man-hating feminist directors and executives make women dress like this in their movies...

... when the women themselves are more than happy to advertise what they're working with when they're out and about and trying to get more work?

Now that Democrats have finally killed off any desire for companies to virtue signal when they're hemorrhaging money can we go back to basics and just admit that sex sells?

Business Insider: 'Madame Web' is a spectacular failure — and a sign we officially have superhero fatigue

Recent releases based on characters from Marvel and DC Comics (see: "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania," "The Marvels," "Black Adam," and "Aquaman 2") have failed to strike the box office gold or public approval that their predecessors did.

After years of hitting the gas pedal and never letting up, both comic conglomerates are taking a hint and rethinking their strategies after a string of failures.

Marvel is reprioritizing quality over quantity; "Deadpool 3" is the studio's only MCU film scheduled for release this year. Meanwhile, writer-director James Gunn and Peter Safran are deep in the trenches rebooting the DC Extended Universe since taking over as the heads of Warner Bros. Discovery's DC Studios in 2022.

Yup.

The Fatigue wasn't natural though. You forced it.

If you kept making entertaining movies with likable characters and reasonably coherent plots and didn't shove your agenda in them every chance you got, you could have easily gotten another 10 years of huge box office returns. But you kept pushing that envelope that nobody in the audience wanted and having your media calling everyone who wasn't buying in a racist or a sexist or whateverphobes and now the genre is dead.

Good riddance.

Don't bother trying to resurrect it after Deadpool 3. That should be the sendoff of the cape movies until the mid 2040's long after the inescapable woke agenda of the mid 20-teens to the mid 2020's is nothing more than a comical footnote in the history books.

Sony has one saving throw here, however...

Somehow, this movie only cost $80 Million to make. I have heard jokes that it's a super hero movie without a super hero though, and that the costume is only worn once, late into the film. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that this movie doesn't have a lot of CGI in it. With how bad CGI has been lately with rare exception, that's probably another point in its favor.

This thing still has to make $200 Million to break even though. Morbius only made $162 Million on a $75 Million budget in 2022, and this one is tracking much worse and seems to be hated a lot more, so I'm thinking that Blue Beetle numbers on this should be considered a huge win for Sony right now.

My guess is it makes less than $100 Million worldwide.

This could be the biggest superhero flop since 2004's Catwoman, which made $82 Million on a $100 Million budget.

Bruce's model says it's going to make $17.5 Million over the normal 3-day weekend. He says himself that seeing only $10 to $15 Million wouldn't surprise him.
'
His 5-day weekend (Wednesday-Sunday) is $25 Million.

If this only manages to make $25 Million in the US at the EOD on Sunday, it's not coming close to $100 Million worldwide.

Either way, next weekend this movie is lucky if it grosses more than $7 Million, and I can't imagine that there is any international audience for this movie at all.

On the contrary, and I've posted about this before. I want Hollywood to learn from their expensive lessons and make good content.

And we're not just talking about the DEI/ESG content of the last decade. We're also talking about Hollywood's creative bankruptcy and fear of taking any chances that lead to 2 decades of reboots, remakes and a near infinite number of sequels nobody asked for before that.

Incorrect. I don't give two shits if it falls or not. No US taxpayer dollars to Ukraine when there's plenty of unaddressed issues to take care of here with that money and we've got a $34 Trillion deficit.

None of the above changes the fact that you're a piece of shit for posting pirate links on an open website easily searchable by Google and you put Haken in a potential bad spot every time you do it.

To make matters worse, nobody even needs you to do this either, because a 5 year old can figure out how to pirate movies.

Other than checking boxes, I can't imagine why they picked S.J. Clarkson to direct Madame Web. She has one movie directing credit to her name... Madam Web.

Aside from some steady work directing 37 episodes some British show called "Doctors" in the early 2000s, which has somehow had a 24 year long run with only a 4.6 rating on IMDB (compared to Firefly's 9.0 rating), it looks like her only directing credits over 20 years are 1 or 2 episode stints on various TV shows.

Most of them I've never heard of, but some of them not only have I heard of, but I've even enjoyed. She did an episode of Dexter on Season 4 and two on Season 6, both were after the show had peaked. She did two episodes of Heroes on Season 4, LONG after that show had peaked. She did an episode of House in the back-half of its run, and even the bad episodes of House weren't really that bad.

To my surprise, she also worked on Jessica Jones. The first season of that show was, in my opinion, the best comic book TV show created. She directed the first two episodes of the 1st season. Granted, on a show that was ranked pretty much universally high for its first season, one of her episodes was tied with the other worst rated episode of the season, and her second episode had the 2nd to lowest rating above them.

Still... they couldn't have been half bad. It's been a LONG time since I saw that show, but no episodes of that first season stick out in my mind as being particularly bad compared to the rest.

But Jessica Jones' first season cost $40 Million. That's a little more than $3 Million per episode.

Even giving inflation from 2015 to now, that's still less than $4 million per episode she directed, compared to $80 Million for Madame Web. (And some now even speculate the actual cost of Madame Web was actually $100 to $120 Million)

I don't even blame her. Take the money and run.

Who thought it would be a good idea to put this inexperienced TV Show director in charge of an $80 Million movie? Who thought it would be a good idea to have her direct a movie that was written by the same people who wrote Morbius? Two of the writers wrote Morbius and worked on a small handful of TV shows together. The third wasn't involved in Morbius and didn't even have a movie writing credit. She didn't ever write anything before. She was the producer on a small handful of TV shows. But if you look at the list of TV Shows she's produced, she was clearly hand picked by Clarkson to write for Morbius since they both worked on "Life on Mars" back in 2006/2007 and just recently in "Anatomy of a Scandal" in 2022.

Who made these choices? They are the ones that need to be fired.

I mean, yeah. Don't ever hire this director or these writers again either, but the ones that hired them in the first place are the real problem here.

Men's Health did an article that was supposedly going to answer whether or not Madame Web was going to get a sequel. I found this by just searching "Madame Web" in quotes on Google and limiting the search to the last 24 hours. I do this with a lot of movies that I'm putting any focus on.

So when I saw a Men's Health article at the top of the current day's list, my first question was "what the hell is Men's Health even writing about this movie for?" It's been many, many, many years since I picked up a Men's Health magazine... more than half a lifetime ago by now I'm sure... But articles on movies weren't part of it back then.

But then I clicked on the link and saw the full headline and it all became clear...

"What Are Madame Web's Chances of a Sequel? Like, Seriously?"

Oh. He's a gay writer. Got it.

"How dare you!", I hear the snowflakes scream...

Quote:

Philip Ellis is News Editor at Men's Health, covering fitness, pop culture, sex and relationships, and LGBTQ+ issues. His work has appeared in GQ, Teen Vogue, Man Repeller and MTV, and he is the author of Love & Other Scams.

There you go.

That out of the way, the sub-title of the article reads:

We borrowed Dakota Johnson's powers and peeked into the future of Sony's newest Spidey spinoff.

And after explaining what the movie is about, we get this answer...

https://www.menshealth.com/entertainment/a46836089/madame-web-sequel/

Quote:

Will there be a Madame Web 2?

No sequel has been officially greenlit yet, although Dakota Johnson has stated in interviews that she would "definitely" return if she was asked back. However, the film has had something of a mixed reception, with critics panning its uneven tone and at-times bizarre acting choices, and some viewers loving it for all those things, as it hearkens back to the less self-serious comic book movies of the time period in which it is set. Still, reviews aside, if the box office figures say differently, a sequel is not out of the question.

Sony is continuing to build out its series of connected, Spider-Man adjacent movies, with Kraven the Hunter and a third Venom installment both scheduled to be released later this year. And Madame Web director S.J. Clarkson has hinted that the three young Spider-Women depicted in the movie will go on to have further on-screen adventures, although whether that is in a Madame Web 2 or their own spinoff movie remains

So I'm left confused here. Are you making a statement that the protagonists' powers are utter bullshit? You didn't answer anything.

Here's a little tip. Fortune telling and seeing the future are not real things that are possible in the real world. The conmen and conwomen who make money telling gullible people what their future holds is possible because these conpeople are exceedingly good at reading their clients and noticing all the little things happening around them in order to give them the best chance at making accurate predictions.

You couldn't even be bothered to do that.

Madame Web does not have a "mixed reception". It currently holds a 13% critic rating and 54% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes, a 3.8/10 on IMDB and a 27/100 on Metacritic.

This is the lowest ratings for any Sony comic book property in history, including Morbius. This is close to the lowest ratings for any comic book movie ever made.

Also, the box office numbers do not and will not "say differently". We've watched the long-range predictions for this movie's success drop for months, and even those were higher than what is actually going to happen after this weekend. If Sony only loses $100 Million on this movie, it should be considered a huge win.

And Amazon just announced it fired the entire writer's room for a TV Show spinoff it had planned....
