I knew the 2016 polls were flawed. I knew they over-sampled democrats and democrat-leaning populations by a fair bit. And I knew there were states that weren't polled at all, or very minimally (1 or 2 polls total).
What I ASSUMED was that - being performed by professional pollsters and statisticians - they were being corrected for all those known problems. I ASSUMED the media was getting back to those professionals to make sure they were doing their jobs.
Apparently they weren't.
BTW, I did read Silver's explanation as to what went wrong, and basically he said it came down to margin of error. Apparently, among other things, they didn't factor margin of error in, either.

J.J. Thomson is standing in for God. If J.J. decides that he will not allow you or me access to his laboratory because he will be absent for an indeterminate amount of time, we will not make any progress in getting answers. In the exact same way, God has locked the doors on the lab and gone into hiding or missing or vacationing. We won't make any progress in proving the existence of God if God decided for unknown reasons God won't help us.
We've come back to where we started with proving 1kiki is an American rather than a Russian Troll. If 1kiki won't cooperate with the proving, it can't be done within the limitations of fireflyfans.net . Within the limitations of the Universe, proving God exists without God's cooperation can't be done. (Noncooperation could mean nonexistence or maybe God is playing childish games with Covid-19 and humans -- killing them like flies for the sport of it. )

Trump could prove he is honest by making his tax returns from the last 5 years available. Since he won’t, he proved he is dishonest. God could prove real, but since God won’t make proof available, God is in the same trouble as Trump. Trump and God are believed despite the trivial effort neither will give to prove themselves.

So, let me get this straight: Trump broke his promises, and is real. Because "god broke his promises" (as recorded in some books by unknown ancient people) therefore god must be real, too. An example of a poll that I posted back in 2016 was from Florida where they gave 10 times the representation to Latino voters than actually lived in Florida. If any of the Legacy Media shills were doing actual journalism instead of being caught red-handed colluding with the DNC and the Clinton campaign, they might have caught that too. Not exactly hard since any poll even bothering putting any time into at all will post their polling methodology.
Another thing Democrat voters like to look at because the number makes them feel good is national polls which always show the Democrat winning. They really do forget about the electoral college every 4 years except for a few months after they lose an election.
Tough shit for them. Millions of people in California and New York don't get to decide the fate of an entire nation.

Ordinary people do NOT use that method to evaluate other people. If they did, they would be completely vulnerable to every fast-talking con-man who was tricking them for his own benefit. Why not use the same quick methods with God that we use on people? Here is one if you face a decision: Does God keep his promises? It turns out God is not very good about that, despite what Believers may claim.
The Book of Revelation is 22 chapters of God’s promises to Believers and the promises aren't being kept. The Book ends with a final promise that the prophecies will "soon take place":
6 The angel said to me, “These words are trustworthy and true. The Lord, the God who inspires the prophets, sent his angel to show his servants the things that must soon take place.”
