Here is the dialog for Theodicy www.smbc-comics.com/comic/theodicy-2 :

Man: “Dear God, why do bad things happen to good people?”

God: I am having trouble parsing “good people?”
Is a rock bad if it is used for a bad purpose?
Or good if used for a good purpose?
No, it is just a dumb rock.

Man (delighted): “So you are saying we have purpose?!”

God: I said rocks have purpose.

What Second seems to want is a God that intervenes and micromanages constantly in every single affair and decision that 7.5 Billion people make on a daily basis. Or even better, a God that created man to be perfect and always make the correct decision that is right and good not only for himself but for every other single person that exists and will ever exist in the future. (Which, lets face it, would have resulted in mankind reaching some equilibrium with the planet at some point and never coming close to reaching 7.5 Billion people in the first place).

What that would require is a complete and utter lack of free will.

We would be nothing more than preprogrammed automatons that are just carrying out our code, giving even less meaning to what in all likelihood amounts to a pretty pointless existence in the grand scheme of things already.

Why am I not at all surprised that a Leftist Authoritarian would want humans to behave in such a way?

Do Right, Be Right. :)

6ixStringJack, your argument boils down to accusations that if God was proved we'd all be his puppets. I think you need to rethink that argument.

How about God showing that God exists by handing down a third copy of the Ten Commandments? Moses broke the first copy. The second copy is in a Government warehouse, at least according to the movie "Raiders of the Lost Ark". It has been 3,400 years since God carved the second copy and it is about time for God to carve some more stone tablets. That would be proof God exists. Humans would remain free to disobey those latest commandments as they have disobeyed the previous two sets of commandments.

15 Moses turned and went down the mountain with the two tablets of the covenant law in his hands. They were inscribed on both sides, front and back. 16 The tablets were the work of God; the writing was the writing of God, engraved on the tablets.

17 When Joshua heard the noise of the people shouting, he said to Moses, “There is the sound of war in the camp.”

18 Moses replied:

“It is not the sound of victory,
it is not the sound of defeat;
it is the sound of singing that I hear.”

19 When Moses approached the camp and saw the calf and the dancing, his anger burned and he threw the tablets out of his hands, breaking them to pieces at the foot of the mountain.

No. I've already summed you up perfectly.

Change the subject all you want, but you're a simple minded, one dimensional fool.

But we already knew that.

Since you are not the expert on what I believe, I believe your summing up is full of serious errors. But since you also want to believe yourself oh so superior to me, go right ahead. Did you see the article about Trump's religious beliefs preventing him from admitting he poorly handled Covid-19?

Sometimes, the reality is that you've failed and need to change course. But to Norman Vincent Peale, Trump's spiritual advisor, that wasn't an option. Even self-doubt was a sin, he taught, an affront to God. Peale had a huge problem with failure. He would berate people for even talking about it. Peale's teachings can explain why Trump won't accept criticism. You can hear echoes of Peale's no-fail philosophy in Trump's angry response to reporters' questions about his handling of the coronavirus pandemic.

Trump is depending on a Covid-19 miracle to keep churchgoers from dying:

U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday urged state governors to allow the reopening this weekend in the United States of places of worship which have been closed due to the coronavirus, warning that he will override governors who do not do so. Trump issued a warning to governors who refuse his appeal but did not say under what authority he would act to force the reopening of religious facilities. “If they don’t do it I will override the governors. In America we need more prayer, not less,” he said.

It will take a miracle from God to prevent deaths among Trump's church attendees. For the next several months, the proof of God's existence will require careful record-keeping about the ultimate fate of those people in church this weekend. If none die, there is the proof. But I don't think America will keep good enough records to know if there was a miracle or not.

No.

I'm simply pointing out that your opinion about everything is wrong, and Karen's opinion about the virus is wrong.

It's not grandeur. There's no prize to be had here. There's no reason for me to feel accomplished about being right here. It's easy to be right in an argument when you're matching wits with idiots.

Feeling any sense of pride on my part here would be like feeling proud that I successfully wiped my ass after I took a shit this morning.
