There is no secret conspiracy by some mysterious group of people within a "Deep State". How do I know? I graduated from Sam Rayburn High School, Pasadena, in 1970. That summer I went to work at a drafting board for Brown & Root in Houston. It had contracts to build in Vietnam. You probably don't know, but Mr Brown was bankrolling President Lyndon Johnson, infamous for the Vietnam War, back in 1940 as a member of the House of Representatives.

B&R was a big cheerleader for the Vietnam War, as were all its office employees. B&R was owned by Halliburton, Dick Cheney’s company. Remember Cheney? Bush’s V.P. and also a big cheerleader for the Iraq War. Halliburton made billions from that war, as it did from Vietnam. This is all out in the open. Your so-called "Deep State" is just a bunch of greedy dumb asses like Bolton or Cheney or LBJ, chasing after money.

Bolton sees some future Iran War as another opportunity, much like Vietnam, to make a big pile of money. That's why he promotes a war with Iran. He won't admit it, but that motivates him.

Here's where your logic falls to your permanent grotch: You have demonstrated that many people are FOOLED into supporting greedy, avaricious policies. Now, if these people were greedy and avaricious, would they NEED to be fooled that our policies are for "democracy" or because we represent a "shining city on a hill" or because of "WMD" or some such nonsense?

Hell no! It would be sufficient to say that "Venezuela is a competing oil interest and is destabilizing the petrodollar, therefore we want to install our hand-picked rightwing IMF toady so we can corral oil and currency markets again" The reason WHY the deep state needs to construct such elaborate hoaxes to cover our real regime-change rationale is NOT because people are greedy, and NOT because people are powerless, but it's exact opposite: "The people" might actually affect policy if they got off their hind legs and figured out what was going on, and the deep state cannot afford to have that happen.

Is there a scintilla's-worth of truth in anything you - or they - say? Or are they just covering for the real reasons of the real decision-makers?

It's been my experience that when a foreign (or domestic) event doesn't make sense ... when the reasons given don't square with reality ... it's not that the people who're deciding don't have extremely good reasons (from their POV) to do what they do. They've just managed to throw enough chaff into the air to confuse you, along with all of the other "stupid" people out there.

But if you think about it long enough and gather enough information and maintain an open mind when answering the question cui bono? you'll eventually figure out the why, and the who.

He told the legislators, “Given my experience working for Mr. Trump, I fear that if he loses the election in 2020 that there will never be a peaceful transition of power, and this is why I agreed to appear before you today.” This was the most troubling — actually, chilling — thing he said in his five hours before the committee. Mr. Trump is the first authoritarian president since Mr. Nixon, and neither he nor his supporters will play fair. Mr. Cohen will be dealing with these people the rest of his life.

O.K., it did help him, but the campaign itself wasn’t involved.
O.K., the campaign had a lot of Russian contacts and knowingly received information from the Russians, but that was perfectly fine.

If you’ve been trying to follow the Republican response to revelations about what happened in 2016, you may be a bit confused. New excuses keep emerging, but old excuses are never abandoned. On one side, we have Rudy Giuliani saying that “there’s nothing wrong with taking information from Russians.” On the other side, we have Jared Kushner denying that Russia did anything beyond taking out “a couple of Facebook ads.”

If you have been following Republican arguments over the years, you know that the party’s response to evidence of Russian intervention in 2016 is standard operating procedure. On issue after issue, what you see are multiple levels of denial combined with a refusal ever to give up an argument no matter how completely it has been discredited.
