Not that most fans of the MCU would even know that there was a black woman who went by Captain Marvel back in the early 80's, when I was 3 years old.
I wish I could give you an opinion of who would do the role justice, but since I haven't watched any movies and TV really for so long now, anybody I'd suggest would be too old for the role.
Danai Gurira from The Walking Dead would probably do great in the role, but she's 41 this year.

If Marvel/Disney is smart, they'll have Rogue take Carl Manver's powers and chuck her off a bridge ASAP and introduce the world to Monica Rambeau as Captain Marvel...
Played by a charismatic and legitimately confident woman the likes of Gal Gadot, and they won't push the feminist agenda and won't need to sink $500 million into marketing after all of the terrible PR they had to try to overcome this time around. I bet it would do even better than Black Panther did.
I don't know exactly when Monica was in the new CM movie, but I heard that she was a child with a small role. If she was in it during the 90's, she would be an adult in current time.
I was actually shocked to find out that Danai Gurira was a year older than me. She looks much younger and is in excellent physical shape. She seems like a great person to me. I think she could make an excellent Captain Marvel. The only problem would be longevity of the role, unfortunately...
If she became the Captain Marvel for the next 10 years of MCU movies after End Game, she'd be 51 years old by the end of that cycle.

There's an insane wealth of information about box office figures for movies here. I don't think it goes back very far though (at least right now). I think it would be pretty awesome to see it fleshed out with movies from 30 and 40 years ago and more for comparisons.

First weekend take: $153,433,423
Second weekend take: $67,988,130
-56% drop
With a 53% drop from first Monday to 2nd Monday. ($5,200,000 from $10,986,773)
($5,200,000 is just an estimate. All weekend figures were rounded like that until the data came in too).
Assuming a 53% take on Tues-Thurs as well, the take for the second week will be $90,400,270, or a 55% drop from the first week. (I don't know if the discount tickets for Tuesday were a regular thing at movie theaters or if they were special for CM's first week release).

A few interesting things to note here...
Jeez.... there are 170,730 movie theaters in China??? It's crazy to see that when compared to 1,550 in Russia and 2,098 in South Korea that showed the movie.
Another interesting thing to note is that most international revenue outside of China (which by far makes the bulk of it) was made on opening weekend. Most other countries seem to have an 80%-90% drop or more after the first weekend. (That figure includes all week after opening weekend, the second weekend and yesterday)
For instance, the UK saw over $16.5 Million on opening weekend. The total now stands at just over $19.5 Million. The total for Mexico on opening weekend was $12.7 Million, while the current total is $14.7 Million.
It doesn't seem to have legs in most foreign countries, although China's BO is so huge that really doesn't matter since their post opening weekend figures are only 35% down (again, this is a figure for all 8 days after Opening Weekend, vs the three day Opening Weekend).
Will be interesting to see what happens in the third week.

Seriously... does anybody know what movie theaters are like in China? How many people can fit in a screening? How much tickets cost?
The Numbers says that Captain Marvel has been playing on 170,730 screens since it opened in China, and has had 270,593 "Theatrical Engagements". Theatrical Engagements are defined as how many theaters have shown a movie for a week straight since release. (Also meaning that in the second two weeks there was an average of 50,000 theaters per week showing it compared to the 170,730 showing it the first week)
When I originally posted about that, I had only used South Korea as a comparison at 2,098 theaters.
I don't know what I was expecting in the US, but I certainly wasn't expecting to find out that it only showed at 4,310 for the first two weeks and is now showing at only 4,278 going into its third week. Listing 12,898 Theatrical Engagements.
There's at least 40 times as many theaters in China as there are in the US???? There's not even 5 times as many people there. How?
