I have huge eyeballs

Basically the original is a list of each of these phony phuckheads tweeting the usual, "Our hearts and prayers go out to the victims and their families blah blah blah," and then how much money they have taken from the NRA or other gun lobbies:

Did you see Gov Scott wet himself last night on live tv when reporters asked him about the money he's taken and how he felt about a 19 year old with an AR-15? "Well... we are still gathering the facts and... and when we have them... we'll know better how to approach safe guarding our community. Surely, providing better mental health services is key..."
And now Trump is blaming the friends and classmates of the shooter for not telling anyone about his behavior. Fucksake.

On February 28, 2017, Trump signed a law revoking an Obama-era regulatory initiative that made it harder for people with mental illness to buy a gun.
Yet despite this effort to roll back even a very modest effort to restrain the ability of seriously incapacitated people from obtaining deadly weapons, this morning Trump tweeted that there were “so many signs that the Florida shooter was mentally disturbed,” implying that someone should have done something to report him.
Donald J. Trump @realDonaldTrump
So many signs that the Florida shooter was mentally disturbed, even expelled from school for bad and erratic behavior. Neighbors and classmates knew he was a big problem. Must always report such instances to authorities, again and again!

You don't need more guns on the street down there. You need this madness to STOP and now. How many children and other innocents have to die before your government does something?
I've been asking myself that question for years.

David Hogg, who survived the shooting, asked politicians to move beyond “thoughts and prayers” and take meaningful policy action to reduce America’s sky-high volume of gun deaths.
“Please!” he said, “We are children. You guys are, like, the adults. Take action, work together, over come your politics, and get something done.”
It won't be done. Republicans hold a 51-49 majority in the United States Senate, and even if two or three moderates could be tempted to cross the aisle and endorse a modest gun control measure, as Sen. Pat Toomey (R-PA) and a couple of others did in 2013 in the wake of the Sandy Hook shooting, you’d need 60 votes to overcome a filibuster, which is very hard.
But even if you did overcome a filibuster, even a bill that had majority support in the US House of Representatives wouldn’t come to the floor for a vote because of the “Hastert Rule”. Only bills that are supported by a majority of House Republicans get a vote. The Hastert Rule is the "majority of the majority party" rule.

You are an asshole who fights against things you know nothing about. Even against your own best interests. You constantly mislabel things to the point of confusing yourself as to their actual meaning. It is a characteristic of someone with a low IQ.
Social justice is a concept of fair and just relations between the individual and society. This is measured by the explicit and tacit terms for the distribution of wealth, opportunities for personal activity and social privileges. In Western as well as in older Asian cultures, the concept of social justice has often referred to the process of ensuring that individuals fulfill their societal roles and receive what was their due from society. In the current global grassroots movements for social justice, the emphasis has been on the breaking of barriers for social mobility, the creation of safety nets and economic justice.

Per usual, the NRA pro-gun side step. It's about more than ONE thing, but one of those things sure as hell is GUNS.
Tweet from @TomiLahren
"Can the Left let the families grieve for even 24 hours before they push their anti-gun and anti-gunowner agenda? My goodness. This isn't about a gun it's about another lunatic." #FloridaShooting
Tweet from Marjory Stoneman Douglas School Student

Of course he was a monster, but monster's without high capacity guns are less dangerous monsters - get f*cking real. In FLA you can't get a handgun until you're 21, or a beer, but you can get an AR-15 style weapon at 18. You'd have be a complete idiot to think that makes sense.

It's not just that the NRA supports some politicians with considerable donations; but if a politician is seen as a defector from the gun manufacturers' agenda the NRA will support an alternate candidate and attack viciously, usually on fake issues that have nothing to do with guns (like extramarital affairs that never happened, or allegations of homosexuality etc) BEFORE the primaries, when it has the most impact. A lot of politicians in conservative states who might be more amenable to tighter registration requirements never even make it to the primaries, and nobody is the wiser.
So make sure to generously spread the blame to those who benefit the most and who are driving this bus. HINT: It's those with the most money at stake (see the list above).
Obviously, if you want to move the political agenda closer to what "the people" want (even NRA members) you have to find a way to reduce the influence of money on elections. That will solve a LOT of problems, not just the gun problem.

NRA Gun Control Crusade Reflects Firearms Industry Financial Ties
Throughout its 142-year history, the National Rifle Association has portrayed itself as an advocate for the individual gun owner’s Second Amendment rights. In turn, the NRA relied on those gun owners, especially its 4 million or so members, to pressure lawmakers into carrying out its anti-gun control agenda.
In the last two decades, however, the deep-pocketed NRA has increasingly relied on the support of another constituency: the $12-billion-a-year gun industry, made up of manufacturers and sellers of firearms, ammunition and related wares. That alliance was sealed in 2005, when Congress, after heavy NRA lobbying, approved a measure that gave gunmakers and gun distributors broad, and unprecedented, immunity from a wave of liability lawsuits related to gun violence in America’s cities.
It was a turning point for both the NRA and the industry, both of which recognized the mutual benefits of a partnership. That same year, the NRA also launched a lucrative new fundraising drive to secure “corporate partners” that’s raked in millions from the gun industry to boost its operations.
But that alliance, which has grown even closer in recent years — and includes ties both financial and personal, a Huffington Post examination has found — has led to mounting questions from gun control advocates about the NRA’s priorities. Is the nation’s most potent gun lobby mainly looking out for its base constituency, the estimated 80 million Americans who own a firearm? Or is it acting on behalf of those that make and sell those guns?
According to a 2012 poll conducted by GOP pollster Frank Luntz for Mayors Against Illegal Guns, 74 percent of NRA members support mandatory background checks for all gun purchases, a position that the NRA has stridently opposed. “There’s a big difference between the NRA’s rank and file and the NRA’s Washington lobbyists, who live and breathe for a different purpose,” Mark Glaze, the executive director of the gun control group, said.

I think that is absolutely the opposite of what we need and it would only make the problem worse.
The first thing I think we should do is not even mention the name of the shooters, and never show their face on the news. Give them zero attention. Let anybody know right now that if you choose to do this then you will be known to nobody. The British press does this to great effect.
I can't recall the name of it right now, but there was an absolutely terrible cartoon movie made for Netflix where two 30 something guys in Hollywood realize their ship has sailed and they'll never be famous. At one point the one guy convinces his friend the only way they'll be famous is to become murderers. So that's what they decide they're going to do. It's the only thing I've ever actively voted down on Netflix ever.
EDIT: It was called Nerdland. Voiced by Patton Oswalt and Paul Rudd. I normally like those guys. Worst thing either of them ever did in my opinion.

While I agree modern society is far too preoccupied with violence porn and the ensuing obsession with heroes and villains, I think we tend to forget humans have ALWAYS been violent. This is just a new incarnation of the same old story.
I blame testosterone...AND fame. TOO much society, too much attention whoring, too much exposure to perfection idealism, social media, cult propaganda. They brainwash themselves and they don't even have the tools to deal with themselves, let alone 24/7/365 exposure to crappy human thoughts.

Well. Hollywood certainly doesn't help, but I don't think it's as simple as that. And I did just mention that movie Nerdland as a prime example of this illness in society today. Hell... it wouldn't surprise me if somebody checked his Netflix history and he watched the movie himself in the last 6 months.... maybe more than once.
There's a huge difference between "shooting" for the right reason and the wrong reason though, or any violence for that matter. As we advance as a society, the line between "right and wrong" rightfully becomes a lot more blurred than it was in the old days of the spaghetti western. That in itself is a good thing, IMO.
There was no honor in the recent school shooting or the vegas murder spree. I can't speak to the psychology of the Vegas incident in general since I don't know much about it (although I don't imagine there was any "good intentions", but with the school shooting this was just an instance of somebody who was trying to hurt as many people as he could just for the sake of hurting them.
Defending your country or your family or your home from people who would take them away from you otherwise is an honorable action. So I cannot agree that any movie in Hollywood that depticts violence of any type as being the cause for this violence as the problem.
Now if you want to talk about movies like Natural Born Killers, or Kingsmen, I'd be prone to agree with you.
Do Right, Be Right. :)

I understand AURaptor’s indifference because drug overdoses accounted for 52,404 U.S. deaths per year and 20.8 million people aged 12 or older had a substance use disorder. We Should Ban Semi-Automatic Firearms.
For the record: semi-automatic weapons should be banned for civilian use. Basically, shotguns, revolvers, and bolt-action rifles would remain legal, and that’s it. This respects the 2nd amendment, while disrespecting the NRA.
A bunch of gun folks chimed in to claim I was an idiot. Revolvers are semi-automatic weapons! Ha ha ha. Being the reasonable guy that I am, I was willing to consider them manual load weapons, since it takes human power to advance the cylinder. A true semi-automatic uses the power of expanding gas to chamber a round. However, if the gun folks consider a double-action revolver to be a semi-automatic, who am I to argue? That just means my list has been revised to single-action revolvers, Break-Action single-barrel shotgun (NO pump-action shotguns), and bolt-action rifles. In other words, the only legal firearms for civilians would be those that require a separate human action to load the next round.
But nothing like this will happen.

Root, a self-described “passionate, committed libertarian,” thinks schools should use armed military drones, presumably to take out school shooters before they can kill anyone else.
But the primary purpose of armed drones is to kill people — whether they are the military drones used at Nellis Air Force Base or the drones that will be used at the US military’s secret $100 million drone base in Niger. Further, the argument that using armed drones in war zones (or domestically, for that matter) rather than sending in troops “saves” American lives (or anyone else’s) is highly debatable.
And that’s in regions of countries engaged in years of war like Syria, Yemen, and Iraq — not in American schools. They’re not hostile zones rife with al-Qaeda operatives or members of ISIS; instead, they’re full of children. To put an armed drone in a school to “protect students” would serve only to terrify them.
Add to that that each armed drone can cost as much as $30,000 per flight hour, and Root’s suggestion starts to look not only dangerous to individual lives and the civil liberties of American students, but remarkably impractical.

The idea of drones at schools is terrifying.
I remember being the last class to not even have a rent-a-cop in the school my freshman year. By sophomore year we had one, by senior year we had three. They did not have firearms. By the time my little brother graduated 4 years later they had armed guards and now they've got metal detectors and who knows what else.

Per usual, don't blame the perp, blame " guns !!! " , the GOP, NRA and , Trump, of course.
But never the actual monster who pulled the trigger. HE's a " victim " too !
Students nationwide are going to take to the streets in march over this. Their message is that anyone taking money from the NRA is going down. If you are unaware of what is happening I suggest you read a paper. Now, now I think something is in the works that may lead to change.
For full discloser, I have a WCP. Go kids, I'm with you...and this is another nail in the GOP's coffin. Can't wait for November, how bout you.
260 days 9 hours until we have the votes to impeach Trump.

I heard about this and think it is a good thing. Maybe, maybe some of your government officials will get their heads out of the NRA's arses and listen. Now, the victims are starting to fight back.

Not to totally take this thread off topic but that young Kansas soldier from WW II was also ignorant. Indians weren't all killed off but during those years we were so rare in White society that we may have well been.
And I am not surprised by Roosevelt either.

I was expected to protect my students with my own life.
But let’s pause to think about how dystopian this is: Ordinary men and women, drawn to teaching by their love of children and learning, have to think about scenarios that might typically haunt the dreams of soldiers in wartime. It’s certainly not what one would expect when they pursue their degree in education — and, contrary to what some might say today, it’s not what teachers signed up for.
I applaud those people who responded coolly to the most horrifying situations imaginable and made the ultimate sacrifice to protect their students, but at the same time, such superhuman bravery simply cannot be a routine expectation of educators. And yet it feels as though today it’s sneaked into the job description — an awful addendum in invisible ink.
Why do we live in a society where educators need to be trained in how to respond to a psychotic gunman, when school shootings are preventable? The majority of Americans favor stronger gun laws. It’s the politicians who are the problem — the ones who receive millions of dollars from the National Rifle Association and can therefore, time and again, only muster “thoughts and prayers” instead of action and change.

How are they preventable?
Banning firearms is not the answer, and as I've stated before the issue is moot because nothing is going to change. Gun laws got even more lax during Obama's presidency than they were during GWB's presidency. There were millions of guns in the hands of the people before Columbine happened, and before that a mass shooting was a pretty rare occurrence in the US.
I'm not saying that these scenarios aren't preventable. I'm asking how do we solve the issues behind them? How do we go back? What is different today?

The economic impact is $442 billion from the misuse of prescription drugs, illicit drugs and alcohol. Ok, your muscular buttocks then. There was an armed security guard at the school - guess we need more. How many? 1 per classroom? That wouldn't have been enough. Maybe 2 on all exits/entrances? 1 guy with an AR could take them out pretty easy. Or just wait until the kids line up for the bus and mow them down. Maybe 10, 20, 25 per school? Times how many schools... lessee nuthin' times nuthin' carry the zero... How fast do you think freaks and loosers would be applying for that job?
Guns are definitely a big part of the problem.
Mentally damaged people are definitely a big part of the problem.
Lack of doing ANYTHING is a huge part of the problem.
NRA and blood money is also a huge part of the problem. Not exactly a Democracy when representatives' votes are bought and paid for, is it? When an overwhelming number of people want their representatives to represent their desires and they don't, then I guess it's time to replace them.

By and large, the answer has been to attack the students, along with anyone who offers them a platform or any other form of support. The nature of such attack has varied with the self-perceived seriousness of the outlet, but almost the entirety of the right has joined in. Unremitting support for the current interpretation of the second amendment and the advocacy of the NRA is one of the signal issues that unites them.
The sleaziest and most direct attacks on individual students have come from the right’s more conspiratorial fringe. On Jim Hoft’s pro-Trump, conspiracy-minded website, Gateway Pundit, Lucian Wintrich performed a hatchet job on David Hogg, suggesting that he was “heavily coached on lines and is merely reciting a script”. Wintrich once told the Guardian that he learned about the perfidy of the left while attending Bard College. In his new piece, he claimed that because Hogg’s father works for the FBI, he may well be part of a broader anti-Trump conspiracy.
Gateway Pundit has been retweeted by Donald Trump senior and junior in the past, and they were trying their best last year to get White House Press Corps accreditation.
Conspiracy kingpin Alex Jones, who once told Piers Morgan that “1776 will commence again if you try to take our firearms,” published a similar attack on his Infowars website. His minions trawled through Hogg’s past, unrelated media appearances, saying that they “raised questions”. The piece then quoted one of their bevy of retired military “experts” who had appeared on Infowars, who repeated the FBI conspiracy theory, claiming that the bureau “has been hiring Social Justice Warriors for years”.
It’s not that Jones doesn’t want to hear from students at all. The site, and Jones show, has highlighted commentary from a witness who claimed that there was a second shooter, and gave a lot of airtime to another who bolstered Jones’s now-reflexive “false flag” take on any given massacre. They just don’t want to hear from any who think that others should be spared the trauma they have endured through some measure of gun control.

Rush Limbaugh, the ultimate Republican, has gone crazy with his accusations, as have other Republicans. From more mainstream voices like Rush Limbaugh and a commentator on CNN — the students are being portrayed not as grief-ridden survivors but as pawns and conspiracists intent on exploiting a tragedy to undermine the nation’s laws.
In these baseless accounts, which by Tuesday had spread rapidly on social media, the students are described as “crisis actors,” who travel to the sites of shootings to instigate fury against guns. Or they are called F.B.I. plants, defending the bureau for its failure to catch the shooter. They have been portrayed as puppets being coached and manipulated by the Democratic Party, gun control activists, the so-called antifa movement and the left-wing billionaire George Soros.
Donald J. Trump Jr. liked a pair of tweets that accused David Hogg, a 17-year-old who is among the most outspoken of the Parkland students, of criticizing the Trump administration in an effort to protect his father, whom Mr. Hogg has described as a retired F.B.I. agent.
Alex Jones, the conspiracy theorist behind the site Infowars, suggested that the mass shooting was a “false flag” orchestrated by anti-gun groups. Mr. Limbaugh, on his radio program, said of the student activists on Monday: “Everything they’re doing is right out of the Democrat Party’s various playbooks. It has the same enemies: the N.R.A. and guns.”
In an on-air appearance, Jack Kingston, a former United States representative from Georgia and a regular CNN commentator, asked, “Do we really think — and I say this sincerely — do we really think 17-year-olds on their own are going to plan a nationwide rally?” (He was quickly rebuked by the anchor Alyson Camerota.)
Conspiracies, wild and raw online, are often pasteurized on their way into the mainstream. A subtler version of the theory appeared Tuesday on the website of Bill O’Reilly, the ousted Fox News host. Mr. O’Reilly stopped short of saying the students had been planted by anti-Trump forces. But, he wrote: “The national press believes it is their job to destroy the Trump administration by any means necessary. So if the media has to use kids to do that, they’ll use kids.”
Some of those who have been spreading the conspiracies are facing consequences.
Benjamin Kelly, an aide to a Florida state representative, Shawn Harrison, emailed a Tampa Bay Times reporter on Tuesday accusing Mr. Hogg and a classmate, Emma Gonzalez, of being actors that travel to the sites of crises.
Mr. Kelly was soon fired.
“I made a mistake whereas I tried to inform a reporter of information relating to his story regarding a school shooting,” Mr. Kelly tweeted. “I meant no disrespect to the students or parents of Parkland.” His boss, Mr. Harrison, said on Twitter that he was “appalled” by Mr. Kelly’s remarks.
But by Tuesday evening, a new conspiracy was dominating Gateway Pundit’s home page. “Soros-Linked Organizers of ‘Women’s March’ Selected Anti-Trump Kids to Be Face of Parkland Tragedy,” read the headline.

But by Tuesday evening, a new conspiracy was dominating Gateway Pundit’s home page. “Soros-Linked Organizers of ‘Women’s March’ Selected Anti-Trump Kids to Be Face of Parkland Tragedy,” read the headline.

The vicissitudes of the ongoing investigation into the Russian government’s 2016 information operation and possible ties to the Trump campaign have prompted the development of a number of baroque and inaccurate conspiracy theories that attempt to paint the FBI — that has never in its entire history had a Democrat serve as director — as the epicenter of a deep state conspiracy to take down the Trump administration.
Trump himself leaned into one attack on the FBI by suggesting that the counterintelligence probe of Russia had somehow prevented the Miami Field Office from preempting the Parkland shooting.
Donald J. Trump @realDonaldTrump
Very sad that the FBI missed all of the many signals sent out by the Florida school shooter. This is not acceptable. They are spending too much time trying to prove Russian collusion with the Trump campaign - there is no collusion. Get back to the basics and make us all proud!

It’s unclear how this would work since there’s no relevant fungibility of FBI resources, and under the lax gun rules Trump favors there’s nothing the FBI could have done to stop the killer from stockpiling guns and ammunition anyway.

He's demented, clearly. There are some 30,000 employees at the FBI. Perhaps he thinks ALL OF THEM are working on "the Russia thing?" With his level of paranoia I wouldn't be surprised, OR he thinks his base is so stupid that they will believe that, OR both.

It says something about the state of our national discourse that this wasn’t even among the vilest, stupidest reactions to the atrocity. No, those honors go to the assertions by many conservative figures that bereaved students were being manipulated by sinister forces, or even that they were paid actors.
Still, Trump’s horrible idea, taken straight from the N.R.A. playbook, was deeply revealing — and the revelation goes beyond issues of gun control. What’s going on in America right now isn’t just a culture war. It is, on the part of much of today’s right, a war on the very concept of community, of a society that uses the institution we call government to offer certain basic protections to all its members.
Before I get there, let me remind you of the obvious: We know very well how to limit gun violence, and arming civilians isn’t part of the answer.
No other advanced nation experiences frequent massacres the way we do. Why? Because they impose background checks for prospective gun owners, limit the prevalence of guns in general and ban assault weapons that allow a killer to shoot dozens of people before he (it’s always a he) can be taken down. And yes, these regulations work.
Take the case of Australia, which used to experience occasional American-style gun massacres. After a particularly horrific example in 1996, the government banned assault weapons and bought such weapons back from those who already had them. There have been no massacres since.
Meanwhile, anyone who imagines that amateurs packing heat can be counted on to save everyone from a crazed killer with a semiautomatic weapon — as opposed to shooting one another or third parties in the confusion — has seen too many bad action movies.
But as I said, this isn’t just about guns. To see why, consider the very case often used to illustrate how bizarrely we treat guns: how we treat car ownership and operation.
It’s true that it’s much harder to get a driver’s license than it is to buy a lethal weapon, and that we impose many safety standards on our vehicles. And traffic deaths — which used to be far more common than gun deaths — have declined a lot over time.
Yet traffic deaths could and should have fallen a lot more. We know this because, as my colleague David Leonhardt points out, traffic deaths have fallen much more in other advanced countries, which have used evidence-based policies like lower speed limits and tightened standards for drunken driving to improve their outcomes. Think the French are crazy drivers? Well, they used to be — but now they’re significantly safer in their cars than we are.
Oh, and there’s a lot of variation in car safety among states within the U.S., just as there’s a lot of variation in gun violence. America has a “car death belt” in the Deep South and the Great Plains; it corresponds quite closely to the firearms death belt defined by age-adjusted gun death rates. It also corresponds pretty closely to the Trump vote — and also to the states that have refused to expand Medicaid, gratuitously denying health care to millions of their citizens.

It was the local PD, the FBI and the on site " resource officer " who allowed ALL OF THIS to happen.

So, here’s what we know.
We know the FBI was warned specifically about the Parkland shooter not once, but twice – and did nothing.
We know the Broward County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the home of the Parkland shooter at least 39 times since 2010.
We know that the Broward County Sheriff’s Office was warned multiple times about the Parkland shooter.
We know that an armed officer was present during the shooting and did nothing – and that JROTC students showed far more courage.
And yet we are told that the solution to mass shootings is for law-abiding citizens to give more authority to the authorities that failed, and to turn over our only way of protecting ourselves?
Why in the world would a single law-abiding gun owner hand over his or her weapon to the same authorities that did nothing to protect the children of Parkland? Why would a single law-abiding gun owner turn over his or her capacity for self-defense to people who were incapable of defending children at every step of the way?
And why in the world should we blame the NRA, which literally had nothing to do with Parkland, for the failures of every institutional barrier to a massacre? Why should we blame law-abiding gun owners who didn’t shoot up kids for the failures of those who are paid to do stop evil monsters like the Parkland shooter? Why should we take Sheriff Steve Israel seriously when he blames lack of gun control, Dana Loesch, and the NRA, rather than his own radical incompetence and the radical incompetence of those under his authority?
Children are dead not because millions of good citizens own AR-15s, but because dozens of pathetic incompetents and cowards in a position to do something instead did nothing. All the misdirection in the world isn’t going to change that inconvenient fact.

What could they have done legally? For all the talk of "mental health" I'm not sure FLA has anything in place to "do something."
And what would that something be? Take his guns away? Are you kidding? The NRA wouldn't go for that would they?

Yeah, saw that on CNN - again though - what could they have done? Put him in jail? I don't think they have the legal authority or they would have.

Wow - this one needs a lot of unpacking because I have no clue what you are referencing. Where did anyone suggest any of that, "turn over his or her capacity for self-defense" or "turn over our only way of protecting ourselves" - that sounds like major hyperbole bro.

I'd take Israel seriously because he's a long time cop and was there. The NRA is so quick to say "cops are always telling me great job," and then denigrate them in the next breath - can't have it both ways. That's typical NRA double talk, no surprise.

There's lots of blame to go around. Better laws so this kid could have gotten treatment, so these cops and FBI could have mandated that treatment, AND make it so he never could have gotten close to any gun - that would be a good, common sense start don't you think?
Right now - I'm so glad the NRA is holding fast to "we don't have to do shit! It's EVERYONE else's problem!" because they look so bad next to these young people. The NRA is taking hits, loosing sponsors - tide is turning on them.

We also know in some cases the law prevents the police from doing anything more than looking into it. That's one thing we want to fix. We know this kid was able to buy an assault riffle. We know the category of the gun says it all, assault.
Some of us here can think, and those of us who can realize this is about much more than this one shooting.
We also know that people make mistakes as so many did here. When they do, and they will again, it's best you can no longer purchase an assault riffle with massive magazines.

Quote:The dare that Marco Rubio took. It ended with him castrated on TV.
Originally posted by AURaptor:
Do it. I dare you.
Fred Guttenberg, a father whose fourteen-year-old daughter, Jaime, was one of seventeen people shot to death last Wednesday, fixed his gaze on U.S. senator Marco Rubio — a Republican with an A+ rating from the National Rifle Association. Guttenberg said that Rubio’s comments about the shooting “and those of your President this week have been pathetically weak.” The audience erupted in furious agreement—an angry, standing ovation. Rubio — ashen, unmanned — had no response.
Guttenberg continued, “So you and I are now eye to eye. Because I want to like you. Look at me and tell me. Guns were the factor in the hunting of our kids in this school this week. And look at me and tell me you accept it and you will work with us to do something about guns.”
Rubio might not have shown up at all. Florida’s governor, Rick Scott, did not, and he was mocked several times during the event for not having the courage to attend. (Chris W. Cox, a lobbyist for the N.R.A., has said of Scott, “Rick has signed more pro-gun bills into law in one term than any other governor in Florida history.”) For his part, Rubio — whom the N.R.A. applauds, on its Web site, for opposing “the Obama administration’s efforts to ban firearms, ammunition and magazines, as well as efforts to create a so-called ‘universal’ background check system” — probably figured that he could ease his way around the awkward moments, much as he does on the campaign trail.
He was wrong. While Guttenberg stood waiting, blinking back at him, Rubio responded that the problem “cannot be solved by gun laws alone,” which is the kind of dodge that he and his colleagues routinely make in Washington. It is a phrase that carries the suggestion that, somehow, the question is too simple, too idealistic to be taken seriously. In Washington, reporters ask follow-up questions, of course, but the mood is often decorous and formulaic. This time, Rubio was encircled and out of his usual environment. The crowd jeered him. It whistled. Eventually, Rubio responded that he would support laws raising the minimum age for buying a rifle and banning bump stocks, and said that he was open to discussing limiting large-capacity magazines. He also expressed support for so-called gun-violence restraining orders, a measure popular among gun-control advocates. In the politics of guns, it was a remarkable shift of position — but only if he actually follows through on those commitments.
A few minutes later, a seventeen-year-old junior named Cameron Kasky, one of the founders of the #NeverAgain movement, which is pushing for gun-control reforms, approached Rubio and the other two politicians on the stage, Congressman Ted Deutch and Senator Bill Nelson, both Democrats. He asked Rubio, “Would you refuse to accept donations from the National Rifle Association in the future?”
Rubio, hesitating, settled, eventually, on the idea that he would continue to accept N.R.A. funds because, he said, “people buy into my agenda, and I do support the Second Amendment.” The crowd booed. He added, “I will always accept the help of anyone who agrees with my agenda” — a comment so bland and euphemistic that it only dramatized the corrupt aroma surrounding money, guns, and politics.
As a moment in American politics, the pummelling of Rubio felt like an expression of collective rage at the falseness of so much that happens in Washington: the pivot, the dodge, the pallid follow-up question. Authenticity has rarely been more sought after in our public life — and, at once, so elusive. Accountability — the knowledge that the men and women we elect will act, foremost, in our interest and not that of their donors — is a myth.

Rubio's an idiot. Rick Scott might have been mocked, but nobody is going to remember that 2 weeks from now. Rubio should have just stayed home too. Maybe he was the sacrificial lamb they put up for slaughter though. He certainly doesn't have a way with words. He used "buy my agenda" twice in two sentences. That alone comes off as pretty downright evil under the best of circumstances, of which this is not.
At the end of the day, people will lose interest in this a few weeks from now and nothing will change.

I am not a shining example to other Democrats, 6ix. I am only a Democrat because the typical Texas Republican voter is a lying sack of shit in my business experience. They think of themselves as brave, honest, upstanding, trustworthy, hardworking citizens. I do not agree. For an example of how I differ from Democrats, yesterday, the Republican Texas Governor stopped the execution of Thomas “Bart” Whitaker. I think this murderer of his own family deserved death. My opinion is not shared by other Democrats. They are more merciful than I.

There is a Democrat with a 100% rating from the NRA. Democratic voters who can’t remember this about him will be screwed by him. I know of no voters, other than myself, who take notes. I'm pretty sure that unless everything is known about a situation that this is the established procedure for any police force, Rap. They don't have a cowboy guns-a-blazing approach to active shooter scenarios. This is good because it protects both the police officers from stupid accidents as well as protects accidental deaths of bystanders getting caught in the crossfire of an unplanned shootout. This isn't a summertime Hollywood Blockbuster movie, and these police officers aren't Special Ops.
I said this is one of the reasons that the people should retain the right to bear arms to protect themselves. Police aren't there to stop active crimes. They're there to be a psychological deterrent beforehand that keeps most people from even entertaining the notion of doing something like this, and in the rest of the cases they're there to clean up the mess afterward. Period.
EDITED TO ADD:
I have a near perfect solution to the problem.
Create a situation where any entrance to the schools have metal detectors and if they go off then both the inner-doors and outer-doors automatically lock, trapping the potential shooter until the authorities can come and pick him up.
This wouldn't help for anybody who is outside of the school at the time, so before or after school starts it wouldn't have any effect, but it would prevent situations where everyone is trapped in rooms like fish in a barrel. I don't think any schools allow students to go outside for lunch time anymore, so the only students who would be outside of the building during school hours would be the ones in gym class.

Folks, if this isn't a conspiracy to allow this monster to murder as he pleased, then this law enforcement dept is about THE most corrupt and incompetent as there is in the nation.
You're joking about it being a conspiracy, right?
More like 4/5 people who were out gunned and didn't want to die that day. They probably had families and wanted to see them again. Yeah, I bet a lot of people get pretty selfish (scared shitless) when they hear rounds from a semi auto-matic weapon being fired inside a tile building. It's called being human. Is it one shooter? Probably sounds like half a dozen.
Once again, even more guns didn't do jack. A teacher with a hand gun against an AR? I guess that's one way to save the kids since the shooter will be busy taking out the teacher first. "Thanks Mrs Johnson! Here's you little extra bonus! BTW It says in the contract you signed that in the event of your death we should send it to you kids and that they won't sue the school for reckless endangerment. Thanks for your service!"
BTW does Trump know that when he does a CPAC speech people outside of that auditorium will see it? What a buffoon.
And listening to him "brain storm" a solution to mass shootings.... gasp... the absolute simplicity of him. He needed notes to remember 5 things for his "listening session." His brain is mush. You could see him wanting to get the hell out of that room, "how long is this gonna take! God these people! All they do is complain!" What a fraud. At one point, after seeing a guy reach over and console one of the students who was crying he reached over and did the same thing to a young girl next to him. It was so creepy and fake. He didn't give a shit then and he sure won't now that it's over.

4 guns is greater than 1 gun, so your claim that the professionally trained sheriffs deputies were " outgunned " is simply ridiculous.
Sheriff Israel has already stated that the LONE SRO was obligated to go in and face the shooter. He didn't, and has promptly resigned. Best not to face the music on that one, I'm sure.
3 other armed BCS deputies were on hand, and yet NONE acted to coordinate and even attempt to surround the LONE shooter. Cowards. All of them.
JR ROTC cadet Peter Wang stood in the line of fire, saving his fellow classmates, before being taken down by gunfire. 2 other cadets also were killed. Those "professional " good guys w/ a gun stayed outside, behind concrete pillars, and did nothing.
In contrast, off duty cop from Coral Springs PD , wearing a t. shirt and shorts ran TOWARDS the action, and gave immediate help. When HIS agencies officers rolled up, he put on a vest, grabbed a secondary handgun and they went into the school.
But it was too late. The Broward County Cowards had let the shooter waltz out of the school, never even trying to confront him.
Fathom the hypocrisy of a government that requires every citizen to prove they are insured... but not everyone must prove they are a citizen

These weren't " good guys " . There's something seriously wrong w/ the Broward Co. Sheriff's Dept. Any one of the Coral Park officers would have acted, as well as most others, I'm sure.
Sheriff Israel is a real piece of work. He's the standard big fish in a small pond, thinking he's the "wolf" of the county and the rest of the citizens are mere sheep. HUGE anti-Gun proponent, as well as being pro Hillary. Clear to see he's all about big govt, not so much about the Constitution.
And then there's Deputy Peterson, the SRO who chickened out. He KNEW Nikolas Cruz, and even ran interference on an investigation w/ his case in the past, so it's VERY odd all the inaction going on while everyone knew this kid had a violent past.

So... this was all a set-up (likely by Hillary) so that these kids would die spectacularly and make the news which would rile up the liberal anti-gun crazies to bring down... the NRA... Trump? Am I hot/cold?

They weren’t the first victims of a mass shooting the Florida radiologist had seen — but their wounds were radically different.

ictims-from-parkland-should-change-the-debate-on-guns/553937/
As I opened the CT scan last week to read the next case, I was baffled. The history simply read “gunshot wound.” I have been a radiologist in one of the busiest trauma centers in the nation for 13 years, and have diagnosed thousands of handgun injuries to the brain, lung, liver, spleen, bowel, and other vital organs. I thought that I knew all that I needed to know about gunshot wounds, but the specific pattern of injury on my computer screen was one that I had seen only once before.
In a typical handgun injury that I diagnose almost daily, a bullet leaves a laceration through an organ like the liver. To a radiologist, it appears as a linear, thin, grey bullet track through the organ. There may be bleeding and some bullet fragments.
I was looking at a CT scan of one of the victims of the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, who had been brought to the trauma center during my call shift. The organ looked like an overripe melon smashed by a sledgehammer, with extensive bleeding. How could a gunshot wound have caused this much damage?
The reaction in the emergency room was the same. One of the trauma surgeons opened a young victim in the operating room, and found only shreds of the organ that had been hit by a bullet from an AR-15, a semi-automatic rifle which delivers a devastatingly lethal, high-velocity bullet to the victim. There was nothing left to repair, and utterly, devastatingly, nothing that could be done to fix the problem. The injury was fatal.
Routine handgun injuries leave entry and exit wounds and linear tracks through the victim's body that are roughly the size of the bullet. If the bullet does not directly hit something crucial like the heart or the aorta, and they do not bleed to death before being transported to our care at a trauma center, chances are, we can save the victim. The bullets fired by an AR-15 are different; they travel at higher velocity and are far more lethal. The damage they cause is a function of the energy they impart as they pass through the body. A typical AR-15 bullet leaves the barrel traveling almost three times faster than, and imparting more than three times the energy of, a typical 9mm bullet from a handgun. An AR-15 rifle outfitted with a magazine with 50 rounds allows many more lethal bullets to be delivered quickly without reloading.
I have seen a handful of AR-15 injuries in my career. I saw one from a man shot in the back by a SWAT team years ago. The injury along the path of the bullet from an AR-15 is vastly different from a low-velocity handgun injury. The bullet from an AR-15 passes through the body like a cigarette boat travelling at maximum speed through a tiny canal. The tissue next to the bullet is elastic—moving away from the bullet like waves of water displaced by the boat—and then returns and settles back. This process is called cavitation; it leaves the displaced tissue damaged or killed. The high-velocity bullet causes a swath of tissue damage that extends several inches from its path. It does not have to actually hit an artery to damage it and cause catastrophic bleeding. Exit wounds can be the size of an orange.
With an AR-15, the shooter does not have to be particularly accurate. The victim does not have to be unlucky. If a victim takes a direct hit to the liver from an AR-15, the damage is far graver than that of a simple handgun shot injury. Handgun injuries

Draw your own conclusions. Those are the facts. One has to , if they're being totally honest, wonder if it's complete incompetence or something else is at play.
Occam's Razor suggest the former.
The father of the family Cruz moved in with is a Military Intelligence consultant, and former military himself, yet claims he knew nothing. I find that staggering. ANY mouth breather who was the least bit concerned w/ his family's welfare would have some general sense of what the background was of a kid who moved in w/ them.
And oh yeah, the mouthpiece for the Leftist agenda, David Hogg, his dad Kevin, is former FBI.
The coincidences, they do start to pile up.

This is incredible. We already know that not one but four Broward County Sheriff’s Office deputies took up positions outside Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School rather than enter the school and engage the shooter.
Now, Brian Entin of WSVN in Miami has spoken to an emergency medical responder who was one of the first on the scene and spoke on condition of anonymity...

Let’s recap the Republican proposals so far to reduce school gun massacres:
Arm teachers with handguns.
Turn our schools into hardened bunkers.
Stun grenades in every classroom.
More police officers patrolling the halls at all times.
Loosen gun laws so that more people in public are armed.
I could respect an argument that says gun rights are so important that it’s worth protecting them even at the price of more mass slaughters. But the Republican proposals are flat-out lunacy.
