The Republican won .... hip, hip, hoo gives a shit! Both candidates were pathetic and awful, yet somehow over $50 million was spent on this one stupid meaningless Congressional race. More than half of that came from out of state, which is abhorrent and sickening in and of itself. Chalk up another agonizing Soros/Democrat failure and another Republican win.

The Russians Do It Again: Democrats Get Crushed In Georgia Election Despite 7x Spending Advantage

After months of Democrats boasting that Georgia's special election in the 6th district would be a startling referendum on Trump's agenda, they just got served up another stunning defeat, as most networks have now called the race for Republican Karen Handel. In fact, rather than losing ground since Trump moved into the White House, Republicans actually performed better.

Don't listen to the BS media narrative

Republicans did BETTER in June of 2017 than in November

Democrats lost traction, not gained! pic.twitter.com/xNMSJogHbA

— Charlie Kirk (@charliekirk11) June 21, 2017

Of course, making Handel's win even sweeter for Republicans is the fact that Democrats outspent them by a margin of 7-to-1, with Ossoff dropping a staggering ~$22 million versus only $3 million for Handel....which is kind of reminiscent of how things played our for Hillary...oops.

I'm fine with the direction so far. We're back to calling a terrorist a terrorist, the SJW cringe fest of the last half decade has subsided, the media is too busy hounding Trump everyday to remind everybody that I'm inherently evil because I'm a straight white male.

Come to Texas, where the government is very concerned about the feelings of 6stringJoker!

The Republican controlled factory workers' paradise that Trump is promising for the nation has existed in Texas for decades!

Democrats (and George Soros) permanently lost control of Texas when the Governor flipped from being a registered Democrat to a Republican to show his support for Richard Nixon!

Texans will show you millions of happy poor working people, happy unemployed, and at least one rich person I know personally.

Texas is paradise for straight white male Republicans who are unemployed. Come and be unemployed in Texas. It will be better than where you are. For a social example, if 6stringJoker is concerned, here’s what the Texas bathroom bill means in plain English https://apps.texastribune.org/texas-bathroom-bill-annotated/ If bathrooms are important enough for the Republican governor to call a special session of the legislature, it must be a very important issue to all Republicans, no matter what state they now live in.

The point is that the very best you can hope for in your state if Trump gets ALL his wishes and Republicans control your entire state will be no better than what Texas already has. Does your state have less oil and natural gas than Texas? Then Trump's results in your state will not be as good as in Texas. To your other question: 55% unemployment rate in Texas. Approximately 13 million employed out of a 28 million population. I'm calculating unemployment the way Trump calculated unemployment during his campaign. He changed calculation methods after he was elected.

And Texas has millions and millions working at the minimum wage or less and millions and millions without health insurance, more than any other state. If you are unemployed or work minimum wage jobs in your state, it is a workers' paradise here in Texas, much better than Georgia or your state.

So.... what's your point? This is the last time I'm going to ask you that.

If employment was any better the last 8 years then there might be something to bitch about or at least blame Trump for.

It wasn't, and there isn't.

Unemployment is unchanged in Texas. The point I am trying to get you to see is that Texas arrived when George Bush was Governor at the place where Trump, today, is leading the rest of the country. Texas is what Republicanism stands for. In Texas, people in the lower income brackets don't like it. I like it just fine, thank you. People with low incomes in the other 49 states won't like it when Trump turns the entire USA into Texas. If you don't like your life now, you won't be any happier when Trump finishes all his plans.

Come to Texas and see the future that Trump has planned for you. It depends on how wealthy you are how much you will love it.

Democrats would win if they had something to offer for the average American who just wants a job at a decent wage. Yes, EVERYONE should have an equal shot at success, but turning us into a rollerball of competing victim-groups isn't the solution for what ails us. We jobs at decent wages for everyone.

Politics doesn't work the way you are implying. Democrats have that message in Texas and it does NOT work. Raise the minimum wage to a decent wage? Not gonna happen in Texas. Air-condition prisons to stop heat deaths in Summer? Not gonna happen without it turning into Federal case. Stop gerrymandering districts? Not gonna happen unless the Supreme Court forces the issue. A hundred other improvements are not gonna happen.

Even when Democrats make the biggest, wildest, most improbable promises they can dream about, it makes no difference. They still lose every statewide election. There are no magic words, no policy positions, no super-duper offers that will shove Republicanism out of power in Texas.

This is the state that sent Senator Ted Cruz to Washington. This state loves nutty Ted. This is the state that called a special legislative session for July to pass a bathroom bill. This is the way it is.

I have no idea what the Democratic message is in Texas.

Quote:

The problem with "raising the minimum wage" is that it's often counterbalanced by "and reducing the number of jobs", which makes sense to a lot of people. THEY know that the capitalists in their home state (and elsewhere) will reduce their expenses as much as possible, even if it means automating bartender jobs. You have to make promises that are more bullet-proof than that.

Promises aside SECOND, the progressive democratic message comes across as being for everyone but the white working class. They need to start including the term white in their messaging. They have no problem saying they are for minorities. Me too, but they need to speak to me as well. It appears to me they run for the hills to avoid saying whites included.

The Democratic Party needs to win back the 1000 legislative seats they've lost in the past decade, then add even more wins to that.

Maybe I should expand that a tiny bit? The people voting for Republicanism know their place in the hierarchy and they bitterly resent that Democrats don't know or stay in their proper place in Texas. That is probably too cryptic. Real life examples that I've seen many times in Texas: "Why does that nigger Obama think he can tell me what to do?" or "Those goddamn stuck-up professors don't know how things are done in Texas." or "A woman will never be President of me!" That resentment toward Democrats will not ever go away even if Democrats run different campaigns with enticing promises.

Did I forget to mention that Texas Republicans hate the idea of government spending money on poor people? Even poor Republicans hate that idea, except when the money is spent on them, because nobody but them deserves help, certainly not niggers or mexicans. "Hand up, no hand outs" is their motto. Democratic politicians wouldn't be Democrats if they hated poor people as much as Republican voters do.

She is dead for 12 years. She has been out of office for 25 years. It was like electing a black governor in a formerly Confederate state -- that governor won't last and was only elected because of a fluke -- losing the Civil War. Richard got elected because Republican Governor Sourpuss was such a fuck-up.

SECOND, you speak with a great deal of bitterness about Texas Republicans, but not much insight.

Usually, when people sacrifice some of their well-being, it's because they feel that they're getting something more important in return. What is it about Texas Republicans that seems to resonate with many Texans?

Hi SECOND .... let me rephrase my question.

Sometimes people can be induced to sacrifice their lives because of patriotism, or to save their buddies. Sometimes people will turn down government help because they identify themselves as "frontiersmen", or roughnecks (worker macho).

You generally don't get people to sacrifice a portion of their lifestyle "just because", as in: You will remain downtrodden for the rest of your life, with no hope of progress, just because that's your lot in life.

So, what is it than Texans are giving up, and how are they induced to do that? I'm curious.

Other than trying desperately to repeal the ACA or Obamacare, as it's come to be known, what have our stalwart, but callous, Republicans done in say - Oh! - the last 12 years? Aside from get us into a endless war in the Middle East (by the way, for which Cheney is eternally grateful).

The point is, Obama and the SJWs wouldn't even call out Islam for the last 8 years, and they've been literally getting away with murder and growing stronger all that time. If nothing else, in the last 6 months there has been an abrupt turn on that bullshit.

Don't kid yourself that the Republicans alone are to blame for the wars. Obama and Hillary and the rest of the Democrats were in no hurry to end any of them either, and were all to eager to lead us into more.

My own personal biggest disappointment in Trump so far seems to be that this is not going to change any time soon.

"Our Brand's Worse Than Trump" Democrats Demand "Toxic" Pelosi Step Aside, Trump Urges Her To Stay

Update: Nancy Pelosi does have one supporter who believes she should stay...
I certainly hope the Democrats do not force Nancy P out. That would be very bad for the Republican Party - and please let Cryin' Chuck stay! — Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) June 22, 2017

* * *

Democrats' embarrassing special-election loss in Georgia, after the liberal media built up unrealistic expectations, has provoked a wave of bitter blowback that targets House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi.

As Axios notes, it's part of a generational argument that's also driving the party's 2020 conversation.

“It was a very rough night for Nancy Pelosi,” said Sean Clegg, a Democratic strategist in San Francisco, adding that he was personally a big fan of hers.
“Republican messaging attacking Pelosi appeared to be more effective than Democratic messaging against Trump. That’s a problem going forward, and it’s going to be a challenge in House races particularly.”
"I think the problem is we have not come up with an agenda and then we need a strategy to communicate it," Rep. Bill Pascrell, D-N.J., said. We can't just be against something."

On Wednesday, some Democratic members of Congress publicly voiced concerns about Pelosi, raising the specter of a leadership challenge.

“I think you’d have to be an idiot to think we could win the House with Pelosi at the top,” Rep. Filemon Vela, a Texas Democrat, told Politico.
“Nancy Pelosi is not the only reason that Ossoff lost, but she certainly is one of the reasons.”

Representative Ben Ray Luján of New Mexico, the chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, reportedly met Wednesday morning with a group of lawmakers who have been conferring about economic messaging, according to several people present who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

Mr. Luján told the group that his committee would examine the Georgia results for lessons, but he urged the lawmakers to portray the race in positive terms in their public comments, stressing that Democrats have consistently exceeded their historical performance in a series of special elections fought in solidly Republican territory.

It was in the meeting with Mr. Luján that Mr. Cárdenas, a member of the Democratic leadership, brought up Ms. Pelosi’s role in the Georgia race, calling it “the elephant in the room.”
Ms. Pelosi was not present.

On the front page of liberal heartland Silicon Valley's paper, The Mercury News of San Jose...

"Some of the toughest ads against the 30-year-old [Georgia Dem candidate Jon] Ossoff were those tying him to Pelosi, whose approval ratings are underwater outside California."

Furthermore, as NYTimes reports, in a possible omen, the first Democratic candidate to announce his campaign after the Georgia defeat immediately vowed not to support Ms. Pelosi for leader.

Joe Cunningham, a South Carolina lawyer challenging Representative Mark Sanford, said Democrats needed “new leadership now.”
Even Democrats who are not openly antagonistic toward Ms. Pelosi acknowledged that a decade of Republican attacks had taken a toll: “It’s pretty difficult to undo the demonization of anyone,” said Representative Bill Pascrell Jr. of New Jersey.

So with all that said, we are left with one question, as The Economic Collapse blog's Michael Snyder asks, are the 'toxic' Democrats destine to become a permanent minority party?

It has become exceedingly clear that the Democratic Party is in deep trouble. Close to 55 million dollars was spent on the race in Georgia’s sixth congressional district, and that shattered all kinds of records. Democrat Jon Ossoff was able to raise and spend six times as much money as Karen Handel and yet he still lost. This was supposed to be the race that would show the American people that the Democrats

Being honest and legal is not " sneaky ". Karen said several were brought up before the board. She did NOT say several were CONVICTED. Yet the 'FACT CHECK' made it sound as if she had said that, so sorry ' FACT CHECK', you lied.

So glad she won, and so glad it ticks off the Leftists Resist losers.

Screw ANYONE who says that voter ID is an attempt to suppress the vote. It isn't. It's an attempt to keep it honest.

One small problem w/ that, the hugest bidder , the Dems, keep losing. Whether it's Hillary and her 1.7 billion dollars or Jon Ossoff, and his 95% contributions coming from CA for a GA district in which he doesn't even LIVE...

Quote:

... All that extra data enables the BLS to calculate six different measures of labor underutilization, labeled U-1 through U-6, with broader or narrower parameters than the official unemployment rate (which is known as U-3). The broadest, U-6, includes all “marginally attached” workers (including discouraged workers) and involuntary part-time workers. The seasonally adjusted U-6 rate stood at 9.4% in January; since 1994 it has ranged from 6.8% (in October 2000) to 17.1% (most recently in April 2010). While the U-6 typically runs anywhere from 3 to 7 percentage points higher than the regular unemployment rate, with the gap wider during recessions and narrower in good economic times, it tends to follow the same pattern as the official unemployment rate.

Beyond the unemployment rate, a key metric in the monthly jobs report is the labor force participation rate – the share of the 16-and-over civilian non-institutional population either working or looking for work. The participation rate rose for several decades, peaked in early 2000 at 67.3%, then began falling; in January it was 62.9%, about where it was in the late 1970s.

Labor economists generally agree that waves of retiring Baby Boomers explain part (but not all) of the decline, which has been [o]especially steep for men in their prime working years.

... There’s also the employment-population ratio, which measures employed people as a percentage of the 16-and-over civilian non-institutional population. Though the ratio has some quirks, it’s less affected by seasonal variations or short-term fluctuations in labor-market behavior than the unemployment rate. According to the January jobs report, the seasonally adjusted employment-population ratio was 59.9%, three-tenths of a percentage point higher than it was a year earlier.

Many people have either gone back to school or stayed on school (and live with mom and dad) or have applied for disability which takes them out of the official labor force.

Probably the least "interpreted" measure of labor force utilization is the employment to population ratio, which looks like this ...

Yet, here we are. Has anything been done yet? Has Trump even started his domestic job agenda? Has he appointed anyone to run that? What about the Republican-controlled houses? Have they even talked about a jobs agenda? The shoe is on the other foot now, isn't it?

Blocked ? No, you're kidding, right? Remember ' shovel ready jobs ' ? Which turned out to be ' not so shovel ready '?

* The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA)

The approximate cost of the economic stimulus package was estimated to be $787 billion at the time of passage, later revised to $831 billion between 2009 and 2019.[1] The ARRA's rationale was based on the Keynesian economic theory that, during recessions, the government should offset the decrease in private spending with an increase in public spending in order to save jobs and stop further economic deterioration.

The shoe IS on the other foot, and while it is a valid question - what does Trump have to show for it yet - he is having to deal w/ a bunch of partisan baloney that Obama didn't face at the same time of his first term.

OH, you think he didn't ? While the GOP voted against him, they didn't have the legislative numbers to block ANYTHING Obama wanted. There in lies the big difference.

Also... no where will you find the GOP leadership SOOO over the top in their vitriol, obstruction, and outright seething hatred for the President. No one was outwardly bleating about 'Impeach 44!' like we have legislators doing to Trump. Not even close.

* In May 2016, the chairman of the U.S. Senate Finance Committee, Senator Orrin Hatch (R-UT), launched the first steps of an investigation into a part of the stimulus law that gave grants to solar and green energy companies. Hatch sent a letter to the IRS and Treasury Department with a list of questions about the program. According to the Wall Street Journal, letters from senior senators who chair committees can lead to formal investigations by Congress.[107]

One part of the stimulus law, section 1603, gave cash grants to solar companies to encourage investment in solar technology. Because many companies didn't yet make a profit in 2009 in that industry, they were offered cash instead of tax credits. Recently, in September 2015, the government asked that a Spanish company return $1 million it had received from the program. The company issued a statement saying it fully complied with the request.[107]

I heard something different:

That Handel's little group did the "dirty tricks" and passed it off as Osoff's people did it. You know, the flyers, powder, etc. Typical campaign trickery.

As far as the money is concerned; you're damn straight the Dems spent gobs of money, he was in the Lion's den there Rappy. The Dems had to pull the Full Monty to get any attention in the Republicans stronghold. TV ad time is expensive, and they had to get the word out because it was an important seat. You guys make it seem as though all the money in the world was spent while children are dying in Africa. Now, if they don't spend shit you and all your little buddies would be screaming bloody murder that the Dems are cheapskates. It's the old story - damned if you do, or damned if you don't.

Oh and the winning margin was more like 4 points there Rappy:

Karen Handel
Republican
134,595
51.9%

Jon Ossoff
Democrat
124,893
48.1

100% reporting (208 of 208 precincts) Basically 52% to 48%, 4 lousy points.

No victory was declared, but claims of a "moral" victory was reported. Trump won in that district by some 20 points over Hilary (according to election results from 2016, you do remember Trump won, don't you?). Plus the fact that Georgia, and in particular District 6 is a red state.

Well, Handel was shitting a fucking brick because Ossoff was making a whole lot of "noise" raising campaign funds in record numbers, and just generally making a pest of himself. So much so that it prompted Handel and her cronies into "purging" the voter rolls by claiming voter fraud. A voter registration movement by Dems for Ossoff produced 86,000 registered voters, of which Handel had 40,000 purged from the voter rolls. Sneaky fucking bitch!

But, not to worry. Handel showed her ass and now the Dems will be prepared for what to expect come 2018. Oh yeah, she was nervous alright. Used all the Repubs dirty tricks from the GOP manual, but it's all gonna come crashing down - House of Cards.
Imagine going from 20-some odd points in November to just a 4-point victory in June, not more than 7 months later. Oh yeah, Trump sure did make America great again. Thank you Mr. D.J. Trump!

WAKE UP YOU SLEEPY MOTHERFUCKERS, IT IS WE THE PEOPLE!!!

By normal arithmetic, that's +46,000 voters. In that district, or in the entire state? Because if it was in that District, I can't see how Ossoff lost. And while purging voter rolls is a trick republicans use while they control the mechanism of the state, polls - among other dirty tricks - are used by democrats.

I don't think so. That amount of spending in even one district is unsustainable. And dems can't afford to wage an entire nationwide effort at that level - and still lose.
Quote:

WAKE UP YOU SLEEPY MOTHERFUCKERS, IT IS WE THE PEOPLE!!!

Yes it is. So what are dems going to offer to WE THE PEOPLE to turn the tide?

I've mentioned it before, I'll say it again. The dems have been sucking up to 'victim' groups for too long. If dems promise women, Hispanics, blacks, lgbtqs, First Nations, illegals, and so on, opportunities - ESPECIALLY IN THIS MEAGER ECONOMY - everyone else can rightfully question what they can expect. It sure sounds like a zero-sum system to me, like 'victim' groups will get something at everyone else's expense.
I'm not saying groups haven't been victimized. As a person who was SPECIFICALLY denied opportunities - to be an apprentice electrician or pipefitter, and to go to the medical school of my choice - on account of my sex, I understand that there are many opportunities that either don't exist or are denied. (I want to mention, in my case I was TOLD it was because I'm a woman. They wouldn't say any such thing nowadays, though they would still do it quietly.) And, as I've mentioned before, I find it beyond ironic that the only people who voted like they 'deserve' better are whites. Apparently whites haven't been downtrodden long enough to have figured out their place in this supranational corporatist world.

THAT SAID - instead of stoking grievances in 'victim' groups and having an implied bias against everyone else, you can't go wrong getting behind basic fairness. Because the thing about fairness is that it applies to everyone' 'victim' groups and whites alike. If it doesn't, by definition, it's not fair.

Dems need to stop pitting individual 'victim' groups against society, and instead get behind an inclusive message of fairness for all, and specifically to stop being corporate shills and stand up for a fair deal for everyone.

And I just figured out why Trump won, and what the winning republican strategy could be for the future. And it's economic war, baby.

ON THE WHOLE, the capitalist system is tapped out globally. There are no new impoverished, powerless countries with oodles of cheap labor and cheap resources to exploit.

Inevitably, the supranational corporations will need to turn to developed countries, and lower wages and labor costs there - which means us, too.

How can you control the people in the face of lowered wages, lowered benefits, and fewer jobs? In a heterogeneous country like ours, you pit one group against another. Specifically, you prey on the aggrieved male Anglo sense that they deserve to be at the top of the pecking order, no matter how reduced that pinnacle is. Because as long as there's someone beneath you in that cage fight, you've 'won'. You can be happy.

SGG - check your sources. Handel didn't do anything wrong, other than spoil the victory party for the Dems. No one blamed Ossoff / or his camp, for the letters or the mailings. ( more likely, a deranged Bernie fan, as we've seen go on murder sprees across the country ) The letters were postmarked from Greenville , SC, which is where one could expect, if someone from ATL drove up and dropped them in the mail, trying to NOT be identified as local.

It was THE most expensive Congressional race in US history. I doubt very much anyone on the Right would be claiming the Dems were cheapskates.

Handel won by 4% ( I had said 5-6.. fraking sue me, right ? SOooo far off ! ) Ossoff had been leading the polls by as much as 7 %. Suck it.

Trump did NOT win the district by 20 pts. And if MY 1% miss was something, then hell yes I'm gonna mock you on your colossal mistake. Hillary actually won Cobb, Fulton and DeKalb, which make up the bulk of the 6th District. Tom Price won ( 61.6 to 38.4 %) over his Dem rival, but that's not Trump.

And yes, GA is still a red state, and the 6th is still a red district. One many on the Left had predicted Hillary would flip. She didn't. Also, Dems went 0-4 in Special Elections, nation wide. - OUCH!

Showed her ass ? Dirty tricks ? WTF are you even babbling about ? You're just spouting inanities , and empty rhetoric, after getting yet another beating which you wanted soooo badly to win. You didn't. But keep running empty suits who don't even live in the district they're running. You're "morally" winning !

And Trump just had a huge U.S. Supreme Court ruling go his way, so yeah....

WINNING!

Yes, you are right. Dems should be ashamed of themselves pulling for victims across the nation and ignoring the poor white folks, both Dems and Repubs alike. I would think that the best way to go is like you said...

Quote:

Dems need to stop pitting individual 'victim' groups against society, and instead get behind an inclusive message of fairness for all, and specifically to stop being corporate shills and stand up for a fair deal for everyone.

It's the only way to go.

A voter registration movement by Dems for Ossoff produced 86,000 registered voters, of which Handel had 40,000 purged from the voter rolls. Sneaky fucking bitch!

Quote:

But, not to worry. Handel showed her ass and now the Dems will be prepared for what to expect come 2018. Oh yeah, she was nervous alright. Used all the Repubs dirty tricks from the GOP manual, but it's all gonna come crashing down - House of Cards.

SHINY ...

I personally would respond to a message that went something like this ....

1) Withdraw from all free trade agreements.

2) Implement a four-point plan* to deal with illegal immigration and illegal immigrants.

3) Stop intervening militarily abroad: Withdraw our troops from the EU, the Mideast, and Far East etc. giving our allies the chance to improve their own defensive capabilities.

4) Make corporate tax law, individual tax law, and capital gains tax the same; and eliminate the many tens of thousands of deductions, exemptions, depreciations, and reimbursements currently enjoyed by corporations and financial institutions not currently available to individuals.

5) Require broadcasters to carry candidate statements - free- starting one year before the first primaries in each state.

6) Reduce military spending, and use part of that money to fund a reinvigorated Civilian Conservation Corps and an Infrastructural corps. This would involve not only restoring our degraded environment but also responding to climate change and improving energy efficiency.

7) Create a true National Bank. Restore Glass-Steagall. Require increasing percentages of capitalization behind ALL loans, whether through a bank or private lender, until fractional reserve lending is eliminated.

8) Create a single payer health insurance; require healthcare providers to publicly post their fees; have the Federal government negotiate prices for pharma.

9) Disband most of the NSA, CIA, State Department, and other departments and institutions which serve a primarily "interventionist" agenda.

10) Require that all critical infrastructure (electricity, water supply, sanitation, traffic control, banking) and institutions which maintain privacy-related information (hospitals, commercial servers) be hardened against cyber attack. Have the revamped security institutions conduct mock cyber attacks and work with the institutions and entities to plug their security holes.

11) Eliminate "corporate personhood". (In fact, I would seriously consider revamping corporate law completely.) and re-state the role of the SEC not to just outlaw monopolistic BEHAVIOR but to outlaw monopolies altogether.

12) Require that all applications be "blinded" ... i.e. ranked, at least as a first cut, without reference to a person's age, sex, and even name. Tenasha Dwan McLanister would have the same chance as Adam Smith.

I'm sure I can think of a lot more things to vote for! But ANY ONE of those in a Dem candidate's platform would be a welcome change! But the Dems lack balls, and they keep lying to us about who they really represent.

I've recently read an opinion article, which made me stop and reorient my thinking. Apparently, I'm an 'issues' voter, unlike many Americans.

http://www.cnn.com/2017/06/27/opinions/democrats-need-to-fix-westen-op
inion/index.html

the intro to the topic:

Quote:

The good news is that (in Ossoff) Democrats now have a case study for 2018 on how to lose an election with virtually unlimited funds, in the most expensive race in Congressional history.
The bad news is that they didn't get the message from 2016: that if you don't have a likable candidate who connects with people, with a message that jumps out at you, you're going to lose.

Next follows the premise, which, let me repeat, is not the kind of thing i think about. It's advertising, not issues.
Quote:

That the campaign did nothing to create a connection between the candidate and the voters, and had no clear message, is difficult to believe. This is campaign messaging 101. You start by introducing the candidate as a person, weaving together his life history and values with those of the people he wants to serve, so that it's obvious that he's the right person, with the right values, for the times. You have a pithy version of that core narrative, written in the language of the kitchen table, so people will talk about it, and which is memorable, so that it sticks. ,... Voters should be able to assume your positions on issues from your values.
And then comes the data, according to the author.
Quote:

All voters are really looking for are the answers to two questions: do you understand and care about people like me, and do you share my values?
And how did that play out in district 6?
Quote:

So what was wrong with Ossoff's campaign? Having watched so many ads for so many months, I should know who Jon Ossoff is ... But after all those months and all those ads, I couldn't answer a single one of those questions. I didn't have a clue who he is or where he came from. I have no idea what he's done with his life and career so far, and what he believes in and why. I don't even know why he was running for Congress. ... It wasn't until a couple days after the race was over that I even learned, after asking several people who didn't know either, that he actually grew up in Atlanta.
I certainly saw nothing in any ads, from him or his opponent, that would make me dislike him. But it might have been nice to have reason to like him. He had no narrative, no message, and no connection to me, and if he didn't to me, I doubt his ads created much of a connection to anyone else ...

Then the author goes into land that frankly brings out the cynic in me whenever I see it done ...
Quote:

So why not run as a Democrat, who cares about a little girl named say, Emma, a six-year-old child whose leukemia is finally in remission, but whose life is on the line if Republicans, by design or by accident, cut the lifeline that saved her life in the first place?
Why not show with your words, your intonation, and your actions -- by visiting kids like Emma in what is identifiably Northside Hospital, and naming the hospital by name, because it's one of the best hospitals in the state, with affiliated doctors all over the district, and it conveys that you know that district and care about the people in it.
And why not make clear that you understand what your opponent doesn't: that this is not about abstractions. This is not about a name, either, "Obamacare" vs. "Trumpcare." This is about Emma. This is about common sense, that health care is too important to too many people to eliminate what we have in one fell swoop, on one day, and replace it immediately with something new and untested.

But maybe that stuff works for you, and most other people.

It got me to wondering, what values did Trump and Hillary embody? And who did they appear to care about? Trump of course embodied the person who was mad as hell, and he appeared to care about mad as hell vot
