Kaylee was afraid.

She hadn't been—not at first. She'd heard the captain's warning too late; Tracey had grabbed her, brandishing a gun as she'd come up out of her room to see what was going on. But she hadn't been truly afraid; it had all happened so fast, she hadn't had time to be afraid. Just shocked and a little angry, both at Tracey, and herself for letting herself get snatched.

As he'd dragged her down to the shuttles, she'd looked for the fella she'd met that morning. The Tracey who had just been joking and laughing with her in her room, all smiles and charm. He had to be there someplace, underneath all that panic and pain. She thought maybe she could talk him out of this. That once he stopped to think a minute, everything would sort itself out.

But things had only gone from bad to worse. And when the captain started talking about a trail of bodies, the fear had started gnawing at her belly when she realised that Tracey was so scared of whoever was dropping charges on them that he might do anything to get away.

Anything at all.

Her heart pounded in her ears as she fought to keep her footing on the catwalk, Tracey's arm around her neck. The gun in his hand was trained on her captain, as the ship shook in the aftershocks of another blast. Jayne caught her eye,

WOW!!!

I can't believe you haven't gotten more feedback on this! I haven't done NEAR as much reading of the fan-fic around here as I wanted to, but I'm glad that I took the time to read this! VERY well done LJC, and you've made me want to spend MORE time digging around here, looking for gems like this one!

usually i hat fanfics cuz they're all porntastic and only about whatever wierd combo of characters gets that person off or they use cheesy dialogue that would never come out of the mouths of our dear friends on FGirefly. your work is perfect. it helps that i always wanted kaylee & simon make out, but you speak like you're in their heads. fantastic as always. keep it up.
xo.

Loved this, you have all the voices down pat and I could imagine it playing out like this with Simon realising his error and taking tentative steps to get back on a close footing with Kaylee. This was quite an emotional episode and you carried that forward into your dialogue which was very shiny. *Xei Xei* and well done, Ali D :~)

I have the picture in my mind! It really does sound like they're speaking - you word their dialogue brillaintly. Cracked me up when Kaylee didn't know what to say about Simon's eyes. Shiny job!!

Well damn. I wanted to see her show him! laugh

Very nicely done. I always wanted to see what happened after that episode since she did slide her hand into his at the end. Your version is very plausible.

Very nicely done!
