Epilogue

Inara waited just inside the atrium as Wash neatly set shuttle two down alongside hers in the landing pad on the side of the house. When the shuttle hatch opened, she was holding her breath even though she had already gotten a cortex transmission letting her know they were on their way.

Mal came out first, and she didn't care who was watching or what they would think as she ran out and threw her arms around him. There was a butterfly weave above his eye, but he was smiling as he returned her embrace.

"Hey—when do I get my hug?" Jayne leered over Mal's shoulder.

"I'll hug you," Wash said as he and Zoe stepped out of the shuttle, Book on their heels.

"That ain't the same at all. You ain't got tits."

"Your powers of observation continue to astound me."

"How's Kaylee?" Zoe asked as Simon and River joined them.

"She's doing okay," Simon said cautiously, stealing a glance at Mal. "She's awake and alert, and ate something this morning."

"They brought a bathtub," River said excitedly. "Right into her room. It was big enough to drown in!"

Everyone stared at her.

"And she had a bath," Simon added as they all began to file inside.

Mal hung back and waited until the crew's voices were swallowed by the house before he turned to Inara, a hand on her arm to keep her in the cool stone hallway where no one else could hear them.

"How's she, really?" he ask

Please don't tell me that Mal is going to leave his heart behind?

Tara,
This was outrageoulsy good. The characterizations, dialogue and action were all spot on perfect. You said it took months but you have really turned out a gem. This is clearly where the story of Liska would have gone. You have made it seem inveitable. As always you make me feel inadequate. Great Job. I have only posted a comment to the epilogue because I was so carried away reading it I couldn't stop to commment!

One of the best fan fictions I have ever read. I really enjoyed the back story you gave Kaylee. I also enjoyed Niska getting what he so rightly deserved.

Incredible! I am so glad all chapters of this story were up before I started reading. I couldn't stop! Excellent job. Keep writing!

I lurk here mostly just to keep up on developments and read the Fanfic but this was a great piece. I would say the best but I wouldn't want to discourage anyone else. Thanks

I will say that was the best I've read.

You pegged all the characters, loved the flow between scenes, I can only hope to get close to writing like this...

Thanks

Just goggled Lex Talionis,

nice title, hadn't a clue what it meant until now.

Tara, once again, I am in awe (awwwww...)! What can I say that has not already been said? You KNOW these people; when I read your stories, I hear their voices, and some of the pain goes away.

If I had slightly less well-consolidated boundaries, and were more given to acts of impulsive presumption (which, fear not, I don't, and I'm not!), I would surely post links to your stories on the Fox board for Adam or whosoever to slip them to His Jossitude; I daresay your writing is in his league. The movie (and beyond!) could only be enriched by your truly sensitive, intuitive understanding of these characters and their 'verse.

I gush. Let me stop. But please, of the two of us, let me be the only one doing the stopping!

Brava!

"Incredible" is right... I can say nothing more. I want to tell Joss just where he can buy his movie script... I'll send him right here.

Beautiful, beautiful, BEAUTIFUL! I adored the way Kaylee nailed Mal's colours to the mast. The dialogue between them was wonderful and intense and so right. I could hear and see it all panning out in my mind. This series has been a superb literary journey with wonderful insights into all the characters especially these two. I also thought it was significant that it was the Preacher who polished off the evil Niska and saved the Captain. Almost as if his whole reason for being there had been so he *could* be there when it mattered most. Kind'a poetic. Thank you for a brilliant story, well told. Shiny! Ali D :~)

LJC, oh, I just read this story again and ohhhhh, love it! It's heartbreaking. Are we going to see a fic about what comes afterwards? I'm dying to know.

This is excellent. I surely hope that when they get down to the business of writing the script for a movie they pay attention to this.

I find it especially interesting that once again, despite his statement that he might make an exception in this case, Mal will not even finish off Niska in cold blood. I must admit to some personal frustration - I would have dropped Niska without a second thought, before anyone had a chance to show up.

Extremely well done. And I don't think I've said brilliant enough so here's one more.

Gorrammit, I loved this to itty bitty pieces! Raced right through each part hardly stopping to draw breath. The part where Book shoots Niska was seriously good and long overdue. So many nice pieces it is hard to pick any favourites, suffice it to say this whole tale rocks! "Xie xie ni" for your wonderfully gifted writing. Ali D :~)
