Blue Sun Room FICTION - GENERAL

High Pressure

Sunday, January 28, 2007

Written for LJ community, prompt was "mend".

Crew is in an Alliance Hospital. Mal/Simon. Non-shippy. Doctor/Patient.

Somewhere along the line, I became obsessed with something that was left out of the BDM: All that time it took to fix Serenity up and heal the crew some. There are some theroies that it could have been months between the final scene on Mr. Universe's world and the time our BDH's fly off. This takes place during that time.

Per Kaylee’s request, Simon limped into Mal’s room and looked at the sleeping man’s chart. “Woa de ma,” he whispered.

“What, doctor? They cut out something I’m gonna wanna use again one day?” Mal asked, causing Simon to jump.

“No, no,” he said, taking Mal’s pulse. “Just your blood pressure is higher then I have ever seen it.” He flipped the page of the chart. ”Do they have you on any medication?”

Mal cringed as he tried to sit up. “Tried to give me something or another for pain. Can’t say I trust them much.”

Simon shook his head. “The point of your stay here is to relax, to mend.”

Mal snorted and Simon looked up and met his gaze. Simon put the chart back and limped off.

Dr. Samuelson entered shortly after. “You get your pressure down over the next eight hours and you can get back to your ship under Dr. Tam’s care.”

Mal nodded in agreement, but before he had the chance to properly snark, Simon returned with River and Kaylee.

“Doc?” Mal asked. “What are you doin’?”

Simon just sat down in a chair across the room. “I am getting you out of here.”

Yep, could see our boy Simon gathering up Kaylee and River to rescue Mal. We all know the cap'n would be better off on Serenity. Wish the BDM could have been longer. Sigh.. great work keep it up!

Great little story. It needs a sequel to show how Simon does it.

I agree this needs to be longer - much MUCH longer. A good start, Ali D :~)

Great snippet of what could have happened, but there is so much more you could do ... wanna write it?

Really nice and in character for them all.

Brilliant bit of work, Girlaskew...but way too short! We need more of Simon's unofficial role as Mal's doc and Mal's "rescue" from the clutches of Alliance medical personnel:D

I'm with the others - brillant, but with so much potential for a longer tale.

I hope you decide to tell it.

It was a good start but it felt like something was missing, not thoroughly explained enough maybe? Probably because it could have stood to be much longer:)

I agree, this could have been a lot longer. I like the idea, of the gap in the storie between repairs and take off. One thing though. If their in an alliance facillity, and so soon after the warant for Simon and River *might* have been revoked("I told them the tams were no longer a threat... They might listen,...), it would be smarter for Simon to use an alias, no?
