Blue Sun Room FICTION - GENERAL

Benni

Friday, October 13, 2006

Written for Firefly100 on LJ. Prompt was Meat. I loved doing this so much I had to have someone else edit it, I just couldn't do it. There will be a longer version later. I'm not done with it yet.
I called Mal's mother Lilly, but as far as I know, she has never been offically named.

“Mama, please!” futilely, Mal grabbed at her leg.

“I’ll eat protein packs and like ‘em, just not Benni.”

Lilly sighed, “Malcolm, you are grown enough to know that the easy thing and the right thing ain’t always the same. I got folk that need to eat.” She knelt to wipe away his tears. “I am sorry. Fallin’ in love with a cow was a foolhardy thing to do, but it shows you have heart and I am a powerful proud of that.”

Looking dejected, he nodded.

“You don’t need to be here for this, so why don’t you go see if Lenny needs help.” Proudly, she watched him run off. She called after him, stopping him.

“I got all manner of plans for you, and not one of them involves you eatin’ protein packs. The two things you can always count on?” she asked.

“The ground beneath your feet and the good Lord in the sky,” he finished, having heard and believed it his whole life.

Wow. I love this ditty fic.

The final line really highlights the changes Mal has gone through in his life perfectly.

This fic just shows how far Mal has..I want to say 'strayed' but that isn't right. How far Mal has differed from who he was as a kid. It hurts in an odd way, to know how far he's fallen.

He didn't fall, he was pushed. I really liked this and wish the piece had been longer. Ali D :~)

I love this little bit of insight into Mal. I can just see a tiny lil' Mal clinging to his mama's skirts and crying those big tears ... poor Mal!

I could see this same scenario happening to Kaylee too ... and maybe even Jayne ... great bit of insight!

Woman's got good sense. Poor little guy. Every time he falls in love it just doesn't seem to work out, except for the ship that is.

Wow...Mal's first taste of abandonment by something he showered love on. Definitely gives insight into character:D

And I don't think Mal's been pushed or strayed exactly. More like...educated in some tough lessons that have overwrote his mother's wise teachings:(
