I put the Nathan poster that I got from ALA up in my office. One of my library lunch bunch kids looked at it and asked, "Who is that again?". I asked, "Do you watch Castle?" "What's Castle?" "Did you ever watch Firefly?" "What's Firefly?" "Have you seen a movie called Serenity?" His face brighted up. "Oh! Serenity! I've seen that." "He played Captain Reynolds."

As some of you know, I have had less than ideal luck with employment in this economy. I was trained as a music educator and finished college to find that there are no jobs for music educators (not full time ones anyway). I've been teaching private lessons and after school enrichment for about half a year, but all that is about to change! Well, not really, I'll still be doing all of that, but in addition to it I will be working for the Agency for Behavior Resources with children with autism of military families. I just received confirmation that I have a client on the way and I anticipate getting started within two weeks. I did the math, and if I can acquire 3 clients I will be making money comparable to starting teacher pay. I'll get to really make a positive impact on these people's lives and I get [i]paid[/i] for it! How cool is that? It's about time me degree helped find me work rather than keeping me from it!

It was very difficult to sound dangerous and deadly serious while only armed with a fork and a speared candied cherry, but Mal somehow managed it. "I'm not havin' this from you, either. Although, really, it's about as effective to differentiate "Brownies" from Browncoats as it was to try to separate "Trekkies" from "Trekkers." Trekkers love to tell you, "I am NOT a Trekkie." "Trekkers" are often saying that while dressed in costume at a fan-run science-fiction convention, waiting for the masquerade to start; a really high quality costume from one of the later series that is if not authentic, then exceptionally well-made. As opposed to the one who came in a classic Trek uniform shirt, badly-done Spock ears, "Klingon" gauntlets, camera, and bat'leth strapped across the back of his ST:TWOK denim jacket... for instance. Mind, I was standing next to them in my brown coat at the time. You have to be a "Trekkie" to know the difference, and the fact that there is no difference. There is no difference between what I call "Brownies" and Browncoats either, because every single one of us whether we go River coo-coo or not has the same desire: To give Firefly its due. I, personally, would be happy with five full seasons. There are others who would want more - like eternity - but for me, five would be perfectly adequate. J. Michael Straczynski did a lot with five, and he could have kept it down to four. Lesson learned. No more bandwagon jumping for me. I'll just go back to my quiet little non-canon Firefly RP and sigh wistfully over Nathan's Tweets. Situation normal... A cup of very fresh wine to anyone who can finish that sentence. I'm a Brownie, by the way. Trekkie too. Proud of it. *there is no "Mr. I Told You So," but he knows who he is.

So I was rewatching some of the episodes today and I happened to watch [i]Objects In Space[/i]. And I absolutely loved how Summer acted as River (or how Joss made River). She was just so carefree at the end, made me laugh! My favorite line (and facial expression) was when Mal had a hold of her and they were talking about Simon. "He takes so much looking after." Anyways, just taking a break from a new oneshot...which should be up in a few minutes or so (if I don't keep on getting distracted). -Sarge

If all goes according to plan (heh, I know), then we'll have a Jayne hat to give away at each of the screenings. They're going to show our Reaverized fan film as well. Besides, I'm told that I have no man card, because I bought a minivan for my wife.

Agency for Behavioral Services training and my music class went very well. It's amazing what those little autistic minds are capable of! It's wonderful being a part of a team the helps the children with learning, communication and interactions. I believe the world will truly be a better place with those minds active in it. I haven't felt this enthusiastic since I began my Music Major. That whole "I can make the world a better place with what I do" feeling is a wonderful thing!

So at book club today after school, we got into the inevitable discussion about being on "Team Edward" or "Team Jacob". I told my students that I had finally watched "Eclipse" and thought that soggy kleenex was more exciting that Edward (seriously - how can a vampire be that pasty faced and boring?), but that I liked the men from the Native American tribe, so I guess that makes me Team Jacob (but shoot me if I have to watch another one of those movies because I didn't like Bella much either). This led to a discussion of great vampire characters. The kids have never heard of Anne Rice or "Interview With a Vampire", nor had they seen the movie....but Buffy? They've never seen Buffy? Or Angel? They have no idea who Angel and Spike are? Really? (!) Now I didn't expect any of them to know who LaCroix or Nick Knight were - that was from a long time ago (Lacroix is a totally sexy bad boy vamp for anyone who cares to go and look - he's not handsome, but whatever "it" was, he had in buckets), but to not know "Buffy"? Needless to say, I am loaning out my first season of Buffy this weekend. It's part of my cunning plan to lead them through the Whedonverse until I get them hooked on Firefly.

I have received some very nice and helpful comments since posting my drawings of the Serentiy to the website. Thanx to all. I have even gotten the suggestion and will try to add an isometric cut-away of Inara's shuttle to the drawings. I intend to have drawings of Serenity and a shuttle showing; the sides (left and right) the top the bow and stern In addition, I'm going to try a nomenclature (the inside layouts) of the Serenity, and some engineering drawings. The drawings I've posted are not very good, they are just initial drawings that still need detailing and finishing. Also, converting them to jpeg to post has taken a lot of crispness away from them and distorted them somewhat. I've posted them looking for comments and suggestions - at the suggestion of my friend, who says there will probably be some who want a copy of the drawings as well. I did the originals by hand on mylar, had them printed and framed and then hung them on the wall in my office at home. They are 11 by 8-1/2 inch size. A friend (also a Firefly fan) recently asked if he could get a copy of the drawing. I did the originals in 2003/2004 and have since lost the mylar originals, and so I have started a new set in an electronic version in order to provide my friend a set. The new drawings are much more detailed than the originals, mainly because I have a lot more and better reference materials than I had in 2003. However, I will admit I find it a lot more difficult to do the drawings in a CAD than by hand. Once finished, I have no problem with posting the electonic files for anyone who wants them, but the CAD I'm using is proprietary and is around the $1500.00 price range. I use it for work and thats why I have it. Anyone who wants the electronic files will need to have (or have access to) the original software in order to print the drawings. I am looking for a better conversion software package to see if I can convert the drawings to jpeg (or other format) in order to let those who want the drawings have them in nice crisp and undistorted files. Thanx for letting me post here and let me know what you think of the drawings.

I'm tired of me. That's pretty much the gist of it. My life has fallen into complete crap. And, before you all rain down the "oh, it could be much worse", I know it can, but if it were I'd prolly be dead. Dramatic enough for you yet? Welcome to my life! lol. Really, I know that things aren't as bad as it could be, it's just hard going through life when you're utterly unhappy. I've always thought of those that were just "fed up with life", that it's not so bad, but now I understand. I took for granted the life that I had and now it's in pieces. Again, dramatic, I know. I just feel like I've lost myself. Even though things weren't great, I had this... spark, I guess. Now it just seems gone. I just want some life back, anything. I miss some (not all, mind you) of what I used to be. Who knew a few months could change a person so drastically. Why am I writhing this here and not in some blog? Yeeeeeah, I really have no clue... Hello, remember? Lost here! Heh.

Been working on Serenity model in Max 8 last month. Here's what I've done so far. I'm planning to make it working in Crysis game, it has wide coding possibilities. The model has 84k triangles so far. Horse research: as it turns out, they're COMPLICATED. So, since it's also an interesting Mal character question, I'm turning it over to you. We know Mal knows horses, so how much care would Mal have with a horse in a crisis? Keep in mind that despite living out west, I'm in the city and don't know much about horses. I've only ridden once, and that was with the people who maintained the horses. My initial assumption is that for practical reasons Mal wouldn't hurt the horse, as he needs it to keep going. But, once he's done with the horse, saying it's one he "borrowed." If he's on a bit of a time crunch but the horse is tacked up, would he take the time to remove the saddle or bridle before letting it loose? Would he not bother tacking up in the first place and go bareback (he might still have to remove the bridle, if the answer to the first question is yes)? Say this gets no where near running the horse to death. But, as a side note, that's also an interesting question to ask if he would.
