I am so proud right now. More golds then any other country in the world in any winter olympics and third over all in the medal count. There were so many skeptics who thought we wouldn't win any golds. So gorram proud to be Canadian, eh? ^__^

Oh yeah, I'm easily amused. Give me a mess o'puppies and I can be entertained for hours before we all pass out together in a pile. I don't care if I get covered with doggie slobbers and fur. I'm all scratched up from their sharp little claws. They can do what they want to me, and they know it. Just don't chew on my gorram boots (which have blessed me with a blister the size of a 6th toe, BTW). Had to swat a couple of'em off, but overall they are very well behaved. I've spoiled them horribly, but I am weak in the face of cuteness. Always have been. Preacher was laughing at me for bristling when she scolded one of them. Admittedly, he needed scoldin'. He was bein' bad. I just didn't like the tone she was using, that she fussed at him. I didn't say nothin', it aint my place, but she could tell I didn't like it. I am, admittedly, in their thrall completely at this point. I'm gonna miss them when I leave. Preacher mom and her husband (and the dogs!) have been like family to us over the last three months. She's sure done enough to keep me out of trouble! I'll be keeping in touch, but it's not the same. I sure as hell won't miss my erstwhile employers--can't wait to get shy of them. But it hasn't been all bad here. I always get a little sentimental when it's time to go, but it is still time to go. I'm ready to move on to bigger and better. There's more out there in the 'verse that needs seein' and doin'--and there ain't no time like the present. I should know for sure where I'm gonna end up by Friday, and I'll be there by Monday. Livin' the dream, man. Livin' the dream.

Yeah life sucks sometimes, really sorry about the delay in getting To Err is Human part 3 to you....wasn't in the mood to write. There will be a little one-shot detailing the fallout from this Arc, but I don't know when....see ya when I see ya

WTF? I don't want to be anywhere where there's a possibility of tarantula migration! That's right--TARANTULA MIGRATION. Let that image sink into your head for a minute. Are you visualizing the horrible image I'm getting? Of thousands of gross, hairy giant spiders...rolling over the landscape...in search of, god only knows what...I mean, what the hell do they want?! I can tell you right now that I'd face Reavers before I'd be anywhere near that shit! I hate spiders. Hate'em. Too many legs. Gah! Imagine now my relief that "its not really a migration" but individual males travelling the countryside in search of females...for mating. And they won't hurt you, cause they aint poisonous... Ew! Guess what? I am not relieved at all. As far as I'm concerned, I'm for loading up the gorram land mines to keep them from crawling anywhere near me. :blast: I'm serious. I do not even want to think about these things! Unfortunately, there are people around me who find this no end of amusing. I find it a good way to get shot. I've got bug spray with the long range nozzle, and I am sleeping in my gorram boots from here on out. I totally did not want to know about the existence of spider migrations. I will never be the same. I am scarred. I might need counseling for this. Going into serious, hardcore denial now...

Two cups of green tea on an empty stomach before a four mile run is most definitely NOT MANDATORY. Upper GI malfunctions guaranteed. Joss paper is representations of real-life money, objects and people burned in traditional Chinese funerals for those who have died. Death? Joss? How appropriate. Cats don’t know what “no”, “stop”, or “impossible” means. Therefore, they have ninja mind. People don’t like it when you jump out of trees and scare them. I worked that out myself. Always read “Rommel’s” book. Revenge is much less likely to backfire. Not that I’m advocating revenge. Birdsong is always louder if you’re listening for something else. Seeing the hole is impossible if you are in the hole. This is my koan. ^Possibly the reason why this is an incomplete list.

I am back in a mood now. Black. Very un-fluffy and most definitely not warm. I need puppy therapy. Or something. It's raining outside. The folks I need to talk to are not in until Monday. And I am becoming more difficult to live with, apparently. Small spaces lead to conflict over the tiniest things. Not sure what it'll be today, but I'm sure it'll be something. It's always something. I am so over this shit. Oh, so over this shit! I think I'm gonna find a booth in a bar to crawl under and a beer to dunk my head in. Or something.

Just in time for St. Patrick's Day. Leave it to the Irish to come up with a recipe for a cake that includes beer. :) Don't think you can get drunk on it, though, so it's good for the whole family. It's vegan and not terribly unhealthy, to boot. 2 cups brown sugar 1 cup hot water 1 cup warm Guinness 2 tablespoons soft soy margarine/Earth Balance 1 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon cloves 1 teaspoon cinnamon 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg 3 cups whole wheat pastry flour 1 teaspoon baking soda 1 teaspoon baking powder Bring sugar, water, Guinness, margarine, salt, and spices to boil in a saucepan (you may also add a bag of raisins here, if you like). Simmer for five minutes. Allow to cool (but not harden). Sift dry ingredients together, then mix into the cooled mixture. Line a large loaf tin with 2 layers of wax paper, add in the batter, and bake for 1-1/2 hours at 350 degrees Fahrenheit. If you don't have any Guinness on hand, you can also substitute another cup of water.

Gonna take a nap, then I'm headed back out west for more thrilling adventures. It's gonna take about 27 hours... Me, my partner in crime, and one VERY unhappy cat--all cooped up together in a teeny little vehicle with most of our worldly possessions. Oh yeah, this is gonna go well. I get kind of tetchy just thinking about it... I'm looking forward to Arizona, though. At least it's warm there, and dry. So my head can go back to it's normal size and I can put away the kleenex. Kentucky is real damp & cold, and the air is full of mold...I've been away from it for 3 months and I am currently about to drown in my own snot. I won't bore you with the disgusting details there, folks. Got new guns to shoot. Got the summer gear. Now, if I can survive the journey, I'll be in pretty good shape. Job & housing await. All I gotta do it get there. Shiny...

I have decided to completely scrap River's Son and start it over again...it just was't working the way I had wanted it too. To Err is Human is done and to be completely honest it was supposed to be a little one-shot that was barely a blip on the radar, River was supposed to come to the rescue and nothing was supposed to really come of it. But Ari demanded her due. I'm not entirely sure why but of late the kids have been appealing to me more than our BDH's and even my own OC Eve. I even feel a little bad because Ellie has been getting short shift compared to Ari...but I guess that is kinda natural based on their personalities. Ari is outgoing and talkative, she is the one who most resembles Wash and she has a tendancy to grab the limelight. Whereas Ellie is quieter, not shy, she is the more intelligent in a bookish sort of way, and in her heart of hearts she identifies more with Simon and Eve than anyone else...She really is the one most like Zoe, supremely confident in her own worth and seeing no reason to draw attention to herself. It's odd because I actually identify more with Eve and Ellie than I do with Ari...who I view with a combinatgion of envy, disbelief and some disdain. After all I was always the one who knew the answer, who could recall and dicuss in depth the plot, characters, the belivability of their developement and the overall skill of execution on everything I have ever read. I was the geek, the nerd the oddball and I have always viewed those lucky individuals who excell at the physical (my bookish-ness has led to a "cushy" figure) seem to naturally draw the attention of those around them and interact with people with ease with equal parts envy, disbelief and disdain. Maybe that's why i write them so much better than people like myself? After all I know what motivates me and whats important to people like me and so I have no interest in further plumbing their depths? After all it is the unknown that is interesting...of course that doesn't stop me from feeling bad about ignoring Ellie...no more than it made me feel good to be overlooked as I have Ellie. I am working on several arcs at this moment in time one of which pays more attention to Ellie and the other three children on board, one of which details the romance and marriage of Mal and Inara and another which details the same between Jayne and my OC Eve and one of which is using the same story-line as River's Son, only it is going much better than before. I can't promise that they will be done anytime soon though. I will work on it and sorry about the long delays... MerryWyn Merry When I want to be!

Still working on MASKS, but most of the pieces are there. Just need to put them together and fill in the blanks. Also doing the occasional one-offs, like GUNS and ROSES - I hope folks are enjoying those too. You know how it goes, sometimes things come to your mind and you just have to get them out into the light of day and see if they're worth doing more with than just turning over and going back to sleep. So the stories are there, but it might take a little longer. I'm glad to be updating once a week, even if I wish I could do it faster. And I want to thank those of you who comment - I know I shouldn't look for them, but they're good for my ego, and shine brightly. So thank you!

Me vs. the steps out the trailer. Guess who won? Yeah. And I got the bruises to prove it. Both ankles sprained all to hell and swollen up. Cause I'm just special that way. Now I'm all gimped. Apparently it was somethin' to see. I did a perfect PLF without even trying! Yay me. That's why my back looks like the gravel I landed in. Nice big rocks too. I hurt. Everywhere. This was not my best ever day.

It's all been said, I suppose. Nothing really new here from me. Just new to me, is all. Yeah, I know.... a bit late to the party. I'd always planned to go back and catch up on EVERY ep, on DVD, as is my fav way to watch really good shows. Looking back, I can see why this show never really grabbed me from the start. It has classic 'Joss' elements, clever twists and such, but it was missing that binding piece which draws one into a show and has 'em coming back for more. The show was kinda like taffy. Nice, but doesn't really do much for me. ( no idea where that analogy came form. It's been years since I even HAD taffy. ) I am looking forward to seeing how the series wraps up, but more out of respect to those involved ( writers, actors, etc.. ) than the story as a whole. If that makes any sense. It's sorta weird, because there were elements of Joss which have become all too familiar, along w/ some new things tossed in..... That is, I enjoyed and recognized a lot of what was going on, but didn't really FEEL it. Well, I don't wanna get all wrapped up in trodding over what's been trampled down already. Nice way to end the series(?) no, season 1, though. Looking forward to season 2. I REALLY have no clue on these eps, as I avoided them completely the first go around.

Ni Hao-dy all... I'll be reading the episode for todat's (Tue. march 23) of "Understanding Islam" which will air Tue morning at around 9:20am on KCAA 1050-AM radio in the Inland Empire (L.A.) You can listen live via the internet by going to www.kcaaradio.com and clicking on LISTEN LIVE or the KCAA TV button to see the live webcam at the studio. The Understanding Islam is part of the MORNING SHOW podcast, so you can listen to the podcast for Tuesday anytime you want. I will also be starting a 30-min. version of "Understanding Islam" with my Imam at another radio station with more signal coverage -- KSPA 1510-AM. That show will start sat. April 3rd at 10:30am. so here's the FF-ism I incorportated into the script (cuz I'm de writer.) ------------------------------------------- PAUL: OK, tell our listeners what these Ten Conditions of initiation into the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community are. Ghaffar: Before I begin, Paul, I just want to make it clear to those listening that anyone from any Faith can join our Muslim Community. The only difference between us and any other group of Islam is that after a person agrees to worship only God and follow the Prophet Muhammad(sa) they must accept the Imam Mahdi and Promised Messiah which isn’t all that hard, if you consider that anyone who hasn’t already rejected us would be open-hearted to us. PAUL: You say open-hearted. . . not open-minded. Why? Ghaffar: Because seeking God is all about the heart, not the head. It’s about love. Love for God, love for mankind. You can learn all the math in the universe, but you join a spiritual community and you don’t love God, He’ll shake you off just as sure as the turn of the world. PAUL: Recite the Ten Conditions of initiation into Ahmadiyyat. Ghaffar: #1: The initiate shall abstain from Shirk (association of any partner with God) right up to the day of their death. . . . ----------------------------------------- Stay Shiny & Keep Flyin'... -- Jonathan M.A.Ghaffar

So I was thinking. I feel like I'm always too busy to sit down and enjoy an episode of Firefly recently. I need to reconnect, set a time, and fire one up. And then I started wondering if anyone might be interested in joining me? We choose some day and time, pop in our disks, watch one episode, and trade comments in real time, maybe via flylog. Well, it could be fun. But no worries, I don't expect anyone to take me up on it. :) Just a thought is all.

The good news...I'm off for a couple of days and I get to go shooting tomorrow. I haven't been in a couple of months, so if you're in the vicinity you might wanna keep your head down. The bad news...I still can't fit into my gorram boots. And I've already verbalized my opinion on going out in anything less than my boots when there could be spiders about. Goin' anyway though. Anything with that many legs had better just stay the hell away from me, 'cause I will shoot to kill. Just so ya know.

...The Hunger Games trilogy. OK but for some reason I can't stop reading. If you don't know it you might like to check them out. It takes place in a society run by an evil pseudo-empire that demands supplies and that the "Districts" give them two sacrifices per year for the eponymous Hunger Games as punishment for a rebellion decades earlier. Not dissimilar to the Alliance/Independants struggle in FF universe but in a different setting (post-apocalyptic US). Me done.
