Guess i'm along for the ride here, hoping for a movie and sucking on whatever I can forage of firefly info all the while. All those caps had a mean stare. Found a new respect for Joss Whedon, listenning to the OiS' commentary. I was grinning as I could totally relate to the Camus/Sartre experience. Yeah, so, I'd never heard of Firefly before a week ago. A friend reccomended it to me so I got the dvd with some gift cards I hadn't used yet. That was a week ago and I've watched every episode at least three times (plus all the commentaries). Jesus, I guess it snowed or something while I was shut off in my living room watching the dvd set for what seemed like a month. I should probably go get sunlight now. Oh, I guess the sunlight will have to wait. Haven't watched the special features yet. And there's an EXTENDED gag reel online? Jeez, I'm gonna have to get that one, too. If I die of starvation from never getting up, I hope they blame the Firefly dvd set in the news. That way it would get more publicity and the movie would probably get made.

I made my first true contribution to my fellow Browncoats today. (at least in my mind):smile: I noticed several posts for translations from all the different episodes and I thought, gee, wouldn't it be nice to have everything in one places. I happened to have a pretty big list on my computer so I compiled it all into one list and posted it to reference section. It's in the queue list now if anyone is interested. It made me feel real good to think that I was contributing back to the community that has offered me so much. Hi hi--I've been a fan of everything and anything Joss Whedon has touched for ages....it all started years ago with Buffy, then led to Angel, then Firefly--which I caught the last episode of when it was running, and was crushed when I found out it was cancelled-I had just found it!! I got the DVD set for Christmas, and have been revelling in the firefly-ness ever since--then I find YOU GUYS!! This site is great, the people are awesome, and I can't stay away from my computer, because I can't wait to see what happens on the RP--yay!!

I learn so much about writing from this show. It takes good storytelling to a whole new level. The dialogue is brilliant. Every sentence carries at least two layers of meaning--it moves the story forward and gives us something else as well: new information about the character, or a laugh, or a hint about the continuous narrative which runs through the series, or a bit of backstory. It takes months for a writer to polish a scene to that level. But these scripts were apparently written very quickly, by people who were juggling a hundred other responsibilities at the same time. I can't imagine how they did it. It's inspiring. It makes me want to work harder than ever at my own writing.

I just thought I'd let all my fellow Browncoats know that not all networks have forgotten Firefly. We have a network up here in Canada called Space that still shows Firefly on a regular basis. In fact it has already run through all the episodes and is now showing them again as "reruns". It also has shown the unaired episodes as part of the regular run.

Yup.. I finally decided to put an entry in here. Not a lot to say, besides, I LOVE FIREFLY. Yep. I'm obsessed. Completely. I think about Firefly everyday. Yup. EVERY day. I got the DVDs for christmas, although I'm making an effort not to watch it too much - I'm afraid I'll get tired of it, since it's the same episodes, over and over. I'm waiting (not so) patiently for the movie. It's snowing here today. Like, more than it has in about 8 years. We've got around 6 inches. I'm loving it. Went for a short walk to get the mail. My work was closed today. Fateback is down.. completely.. which means my website is down.. lovely since I'm being spotlighted by Dollz Monthly magazine... and no one can even go look at the damn site. Frelling sucks. I'm playing Inara in a yahoo group.. having a great time.. the person playing Mal is great.. we're gonna try a little damsel in distress for Inara pretty soon.. badger has a plan.. go to a big auction, bid on some fancy glassware.. then steal some diamonds.. yeah.. piece of cake for Mal and company.. I think Inara gets to do some bidding :P Anyhow.. off to make some more graphics!!

I knew from the first time that I saw Firefly, hell even before that during Buffy and Angel, that this was probably one of the best shows out there. I am a fan boy. I know that I am a fan boy, why else would I be here :smile: . Been watching my DVD set of the series and am overly happy with each episode I sit and watch. I only have 2 episodes left and that troubles me, because it is a show that I don't think got it's fair share and it wasn't given nearly a chance. Just like when the idiot execs at Sci-Fi cancelled their flagship show, FarScape and replacing it with all the pieces of go se you see now. Firefly is great. I just hope the DVD sales make Fox realize what a horrible mess they made by cancelling the show.

Yesterday I was thinking about the difference between great lines of dialogue and lines that just pop out because the actor got it so right. These perfect little moments happen so often in Firefly that I really, really can't choose favourites. But I had fun trying! Like this: Mal first meets Kaylee and she's pointing underneath the engine and she says, "I'm pointing right at it." River says to Book, after the hair-scare, "Just keep on walking, Preacher-Man." Book says about his "natty" friend, "...he was so [i]proud[/i] of it." Jayne reads aloud the letter from his mother. Never mind the hat. Okay, the hat-business is fabulous. But I really love the letter-reading. Inara elbows Mal out of the way and says, "You never could fly this thing." Mal asks Simon if his ear will be okay, and Simon says, "Just don't...fiddle with it." Wash says, "We are a peaceful race, and we must learn to live in harmony..." Hahaha. I love Wash. Happy sigh. Zoe says about Serenity, "...when we get her running?...so...not running now." And then, "Uh-huh." There are too many perfect Mal moments. I can't choose. He never misses. He's just a joy to watch. When he gets laughing, I laugh out loud. And when he's moved, my heart turns over.

I decided to make this my official blog space for the upcoming Firefly Fan Film I am making. So, my introduction. I am Michael Alessandro, a film maker, actor, writer and director in San Francisco, CA. Currently I have a web series at www.fof-films.com called "Smoke & Mirrors:The Magicians", it is updated randomly with new webisodes and is currently drawing some very nice attention. So, why a Firefly Fan Film? For me, Joss created a universe that I was dying to explore with the crew of Serenity. He had rich characters and a very unique premise. And I miss it. I've watched my dvd set twice through so far, and just can't get enough, but alas... So, I decided I needed... Yes, I was compelled to do my own "firefly". But since there's the possibility of Mal and the gang rising again (fingers crossed) I thought I would follow an entirely different crew who also happen to be on a "firefly" vessel. And thus it began. I started with the characters, of which there are 7 main characters on the ship (I will go into details later), and their personalities, their reasons for being who they are and flying on the ship they do. Then I sat down to write the pilot episode, and it seemed to just flow. I am very excited to lens it. Now we're in pre-production, putting our ducks as they say... I have been geenrously supplied with a couple of Serenity models from fellow firelyfans.net users. My extreme thanks to Biotech!!! His model blows me away. I'm excited to do a test run with it and animate. Now we're about ready to cast. I have a few actors already lined up, people I have worked wioth before in theater and on my web series, but the rest will be doing an open casting call. I can't wait to see who shows up. When all is said and done the film(s) will be posted for free downloading over at www.fof-films.com. I invite everyone to check out "Smoke & Mirrors" in the meantime. I just learned the funniest thing. I wrote an e-mail to my aunt, thanking her for the money she sent me for Christmas. I was blabbing about the usual stuff, y'know, how my holidays were and what gifts I got. Quickly mentioned that I got the DVD box sets for Firefly and Buffy and that she probably hadn't heard of Firefly. Lo and behold, when I checked my e-mail today, there was her response. [b]She actually knew what Firefly was and she's disappointed that the show was cancelled and that she doesn't get Space![/b] :biggrin: This made me so happy. Here I was, thinking that no one besides me and my sister watched the show and love it so much. I would just like to say hello to everyone here and offer my thanks and admiration to those that established and maintain this masterful site Firefly grabbed my imagination to such an extent I started writing FanFics for it and I've never done that before. Maybe the Alliance requires all vessels to fly in a clockwise orientation around the sun when in sytem. And I can't find it! Got the DVD for Christmas, cause I was sooo good this year. Watched it. Then watched it again. Three more times,then got drunk on champagne and tried to engage friends and family in a rousing rendition of the firefly theme song. Ok, that last part is a lie. However, I have had the Hero of Canton stuck in my head for weeks (both the song and the men himself- 'Is it really Jayne Cobb, pinch me I must be dreaming')And lo and behold, a little bunny whispers in my ear a promise of easter eggs. So, first things last... After a re-read of the "Firefly:Orpheus" pilot script I came up with a snag... Probably one that the execs at FOX would have had a field day with... The beginning was just too damn slow... But problem solved, rearranged a few scenes added a shootout in an alley and a flashback for our intrepid Captain and I'm feeling good! But even better is the test footage I did for the Orpheus. Again, many props over to Firefly.net user Biotech who gave me his model. I did my first pass at re-texturing it, and with a little more work, I think I will really come up with something. I tried two different engine "sparks" for this one, and I'm digging the vibe I get from the nacel closest to the camera, I think that will be my basic engine exhaust fume. Next I have to work on spinning the ring at the engine and get the "firefly effect". So, if you want to take a gander pop over to:

Today was quite a dreary day... Okay... Backup a sec... I live in San Francisco, and my day job takes me out to Alcatraz Island daily. And if you think it sounds kinda cool, your kinda right. I get to go to a very notorious place every day, I have full run of the island, and it's a great work environment. Except... It's not. It's a former prison. It's dreary, it's bleak and when you are isolated on an island 8-10 hours a day you start to go a little nuts. (I can only imagine what Capone, The Birdman and the likes felt...) Anyway... I did a little re-write on the Firefly: Orpheus pilot again today. Trying to solidify a few relationships and punch up the action. Say what you will about FOX for canceling a slam bang show, but the truth of the matter is - you need a little action. I'm not saying that Firefly didn;t have enough action, in fact I found the balance of character development, dialogue and action to be near perfect. But I can see why the "suits" thought action was an important selling tool. As I re-read my pilot script I realize more and more how I need to rearrange, punch up the action and balance it out with how I develop the relationships between the characters. So I leave you with this tidbit. "Firefly: Orpheus" will follow the crew of the Firefly vessel Orpheus. They are led by a con man, hustler and gambler named Jonah Boone. And as for the name, as I've had a few comments not sure about the sound of "Orpheus", I struggled, worried it would bring Keanu Reeves in leather to mind - but decided that because of the theme of the show "Orpheus" was exactly what I wanted to convey. First person to post the theme and it's relationship to the name "Orpheus" gets a cookie. And bonus cookies for those who post the relationship to the Joss' established verse that "Orpheus" has. More to come... Now I'm home, I'm tired, I played a little party poker while I wait for a new animation test to finish rendering, but I thought I'd post an image of the new textures on the Orpheus. Once again, props to fireflyfan.net user Biotech for the suberb model.

Some 1,000 artists from China will join the three-hour parade with various performances, including dragon and lion dance, red fan dance, drum music, Beijing opera, bicycle acrobatic show, martial arts and puppet show. Groups of vehicles will be sumptuously decorated and a group ofartists will march in the opposite direction, dancing with kites, balloons and a 50-meter long dragon. And 12 totems symbolizing the 12 signs of the Chinese zodiac will also decorate the Champs-Elysees Avenue. "The decorated vehicles have been transported into Paris for assemblage and the performers are doing their final repetitions," Li Jicheng, chief organizer in charge of the parade from the municipality of Beijing, told Xinhua. Some 45 Chinese associations in Paris, which has a Chinese community of about 40,000, contributed to this exceptional parade,with an estimated costs of about 480,000 euros (about 650,000 dollars). "We are glad to host the event, which will help the Parisians to discover the richness of the Chinese culture and highlight the identity of the Chinese in Paris," said the Paris City Hall in a statement. So I was watching a Tru Calling episode I had taped (yes, I watch Tru Calling :wink:). Where I live, there's this TV station sorta out in the boonies that also shows it, but an hour earlier. So all the commericals and news updates are all for the stuff in the area. I prefer taping Tru Calling at this time since it is an hour earlier and I avoid watching it on Fox. So here I am, fast forwarding through the boring commericals and suddenly an ad for Firefly goes flashing by. Naturally, I start freaking out and I stop the tape and rewind it back. Turns out it wasn't an ad for Firely, just a brief preview of a report from the news about TV shows ending up on DVDs. I was happy to see that Firefly had made the news report, then the guy goes and says, "Even shows you've never even heard about." Excuse me?! :bash: Plenty of people have heard about Firefly. Want evidence? How about this site? Okay, so maybe the guy was referring to shows that air on American channels, like HBO, that aren't common channels in every Canadian household. But Firefly is getting Canadian air play in reruns and while it had been on the air, a national TV station had shown it. So I don't know what this guy was talking about and I'll never know since the news report aired on Thursday. Too bad I can't pull a "Tru" and go back to that day. :biggrin: Grr...

I got an email from the TA teaching my Personality class. We had written short little papers about our favorite fictonal character's personalities. I had choosen Kaylee (she isn't my all time fav characters...but she is one of them...and I'm not really sure who my fav is). Well the TA (who really is the teacher) emailed me back saying how much she liked firefly and was sorry it was gone and if I liked any other Joss shows! It was kind of a shock to me.

I have a Firefly reference guide that a friend & I have been putting together. It’s kind of a general guide, no stats or such, that my friends & I are planning to use for our pen & paper RPG. We compiled a bunch of material from other sources on the net and are putting it into one document for ease of use. Right now the whole thing is in four pieces as I don't have a tremendous amount of computer skill and my friend the editor in Halifax still hasn't sent me the combined final draft. When it's done (probably no time soon as my buddy is a very busy man) I will be looking for a place to post it and/or I will be emailing it out to people. Be advised however... None of the information in this guide is original material that my friend or I have come up with. We simply compiled the information from existing sources and edited it for ease of use. All source material has been credited for its origins on the table of contents page. I don't want anyone giving my friend or I credit for anything that we didn't do. You understand. So anyway I thought I'd post this and see what kind of response I get and just to see how far in over my head I'll be getting. :crap: Please be kind and don't swamp this poor technically unskilled Browncoat. So we've probably all heard by now that David Boreanaz is directing the Angel ep this week [i]Soul Purpose[/i]. Angel himself will be directing, well, himself, along with his fellow actors. When I first heard about this, I said I was kinda wary and was pegged a pessimist for my comment. I was sort of mad about this, but everyone is entitled to have his or her own thoughts. Anyway, I'm still wary. There is no guarantee that David's directing is going to be really great simply because he's been on the show for five years and has been playing this character for eight. From what I understand, and have heard from Joss' commentaries for Firefly, directing involves lighting and the placement of characters, how a shot is going to be constructed, discussing how the actor should play the scene, etc. Doesn't sound easy to me. I mean, I have faith in David as an actor, but I'm still not completely convinced that this episode is going to look phenomenal. I guess it doesn't have to in order to be a good episode, but I suppose I'm just spoiled now thanks to Firefly's amazing look. :biggrin: Well, we'll see how things are when Wednesday rolls around. Maybe my opinion will change. David has said before that he always wanted to direct. Maybe this will give him a chance to expand his skills.

I have not forgotten about Remnants. I do intend to finish it. However, time is precious and other things seem to keep getting in the way and taking precedence. Both online and offline. Here we go! I am finally getting juiced at the prospects of the animations for "Firefly: Orpheus" I did some re-texturing of the firefly model and it is turning out really nice. I still have a bit of work to do on the firefly effect for the engine, but it is coming along and I feel fairly confident that when all is said and done we will have a top notch effect there. I am currently also building 3d models of our interior sets, we'll be shooting the entire show green screen (at the moment) so I am doing some big work on building the interior of the ship. I'm trying to put it together as a complete model, so you can do an entire interior fly through in one shot, but the size of the file is eating me alive... So... Until I upgrade from my 2 ghz machine to a 3 ghz with 1 gig of ram... It may be built in sections. So... On the lighter side my notebook had some sort of crash and literally the ONLY file that was affected was the Firefly Orpheus Script I was working on. Thankfully I had the previous version still, so I am currently having to go through and do a re-write to get it back to the re-write I had already done.... YEARRRRGH! Anyway, back to the grindstone. Was a little hesitant to say much other than I was fine over the taglog on the front page of fff.net I may have seemed short with people or too paranoid when talking aout giving out my AOL IM handle Wasn't sure if the GM of the RPG was happy with what I wrote up for a description of the engineer and which I posted to the relevant thread but then again the guy barely had time to rush on and say hes gone for the next few days and will be plotting and planning when he can. Here in Canada, the Space Channel is faithfully airing Firefly episodes every week, and I'm faithfully watching them, even though I've got the DVD set. I could watch any episode, any time, commercial-free, with or without commentary (and I [i]do[/i]), but I'm still turning on the TV promptly at 9 on Mondays. What's that all about? I've been trying to figure it out. I like knowing that a bunch of other people are out there somewhere, enjoying the show at the same time I am. And I like knowing that new browncoats are tuning in and getting hooked, just as I did. And watching on TV makes it seem as if the show is still alive and important. Every time I watch it (on DVD or TV) I notice something new. The episodes are so rich in detail--there's so much to think about! This week's episode was Shindig. In the scene where River attacks the cans of food, I suddenly got it...or thought I did. I bet those cans were marked with the Blue Sun logo and that's what set her off. Been working on keeping this place I'm living in presentable so it can be sold so a move can be made from the current locale to another locale in merry ol' New England. [b][u]A lil bit of my history with Role Playing Games[/b][/u] Way back in the dawn of time .. well 1981 I found a copy of D&D (the basic set with the blue Dragon on the cover). Very quickly I went on to get into AD&D and over the years tried many other pen and paper RPGs In 1991 I started a long period of not playing any RPGs .... [b][u]Just Prior To Y2K[/b][/u] When I went online in late 1998-early 1999 for the first time I rooted around and eventually found an online html based chat setting for White Wolf's World of Darkness Games where I tried some [b][i]Werewolf: The Apocalypse[/b][/i]. Everyday on my way to work, I have 1 hour of nothing to do. So I decided to burn my episodes of firefly into .wav formats and I listen to an episode on my way to work. All I have to do is close my eyes and I can see whats goin on, I've seen the show so much. Too bad I dont have a portable DVD player, than I could watch it. But this will do for now.

What a great site for a great show! I saw a few episodes during its first run, and thought it was a pretty good show, but never really got into it. With the DVD set out, I thought I'ld give it another chance, and wow, I can't believe how great this show is! It seems to have taken the best parts of Angel, Star Trek, and Andromeda, with a good dose of Joss Whedonisms thrown in! In anycase, I'm currently working on an interactive fiction game based on Firefly. I have started to implement the rooms inside Serenity and will tackle the wonderful characters next. I'll post updates and release links once I've gotten it more stable.

Stunned I tell ya, totally functionless! Sometimes things DO go right.

It's late, I just got a replaytv hooked up and set to work, I bought anew monitor for my system today and I am dead tired... Long long techno geek day for me and I work in 5 hours so... But I wanted to get this first image of the Cargo Bay Set up for everyone's perusal. I have been workign on textures and modeling all day and it is coming along. I have taken a few liberties with the look but the layout is very similair. I have re-arranged the catwalk and steps a little, and still have a ways to go - more catwalks, plus the shuttle entry and cockpit entry. But --- It is coming along.

One time, on the last day of school, I tripped on the cement sidewalk running to the bus, but then hopped up and got to the bus so quickly that I didn't even notice that I had skinned my knee down to the bone. I didn't even see it, and only when someone told me that my pantleg was ripped did I notice that my leg, sock, and shoe were drenched with blood. It still didn't hurt though... just a mild sting. I guess in retrospect, I'm glad I didn't get an infection.

One time, on the bus home from school, I was leaning back, minding my own business, with my eyes half-closed, and this hot girl I like suddenly lunged at the person in the seat behind me. A fortunate side-effect of her lunge was to crush my face (in a good way, you'll see) with her ample bosom (see? told ya). I decided to be a gentleman, though, and slip out from heaven itself, then pretend not to make a big deal of it any time since. I still have sense-memory dreams of that bus ride home.

SUCCATASH

I had my mother and father over for dinner last weekend. We dished up the mashed potatoes and then watched a Firefly DVD episode called "Ariel." It was great. But half-way through the show, I realized that my mother was gone, vanished from the living room. I looked at my dad, and he just shrugged and turned back to the TV. I got up and tip-toed to my computer room. My mother was sitting at my desk, typing away. To my surprise, I could see she was typing on Fireflyfans.net. "Mom, what are you doing?" I asked. She shrieked and turned off the monitor. "Nothing... I thought you were watching Firefly," she said in a strained voice. "I am. I was. I mean, what's up? Are you chatting on Fireflyfans.net?" I couldn't believe my eyes. My mother looked guilty. "I've met a nice man. His name is SergeantX. He treats me right. I'm divorcing your father." I couldn't believe it. I wish I never showed Firefly to my parents. It made my mom have an affair with SergeantX and then divorce my dad. Curse you, Joss Whedon!
