Some Thoughts about Scripts

I learn so much about writing from this show. It takes good storytelling to a whole new level. The dialogue is brilliant. Every sentence carries at least two layers of meaning--it moves the story forward and gives us something else as well: new information about the character, or a laugh, or a hint about the continuous narrative which runs through the series, or a bit of backstory. It takes months for a writer to polish a scene to that level. But these scripts were apparently written very quickly, by people who were juggling a hundred other responsibilities at the same time. I can't imagine how they did it. It's inspiring. It makes me want to work harder than ever at my own writing.COMMENTS: 0
