For example, the Vikings of Greenland didn't go extinct because they experienced cultural dissipation.
Nor did they go extinct at all. Which is why Greenland is still part of Denmark. You're thinking of the Vinlanders in Nova Scotia.
No, I'm thinking of the first Viking colony, led by Eric the Red, that went to the optimistically named island of Greenland. Eventually everyone either left or died out.
nature is very tolerant about what they need in order to survive long enough to have children of their own.
Actually, nature is rough as hell.
Wild animals live on the edge of death. All animals reproduce to the limit of their resources. And that means that should there be a slight bobble with those resources, without question some will starve. Predators and prey have a zero sum relationship. The death of one means the life of the other. (Not ALL relationships are so fraught, there are those of mutual benefit, and those of neutrality.)
But when it comes to PEOPLE, even primitive technologies remove humans from the immediate power of nature. People can store water, and food. They can cook stuff and make the indigestible edible. And so on. That gives people offspring an advantage that other animal offspring don't have. Because anyone can provide minimal care and make available resources not immediate in the environment.
And none of them are communist monkeys, transgender monkeys
We aren't privy to what they think, so we don't know if they're transgender. But gayness is widespread in the animal world. So are bad mothers who abandon their babies - even monkeys, even people - as well as extraordinary mothers who, against the odds, successfully raise a high percent of off spring - even monkeys, even people.
So overall, I don't see trying to enforce stereotyped gender roles as being necessary.
No, but encouraging neutering your kids was the next logical step after neutering your pets
Which I didn't support. My contention is that a lot of distress in those children comes from the reaction of the society around them. And I argue that gender roles per se aren't vital to a society surviving. I think we should all just chill about what gender they feel like they are, until they're old enough to figure it out for themselves (and their brains and bodies have matured).
How did your beloved 'democratic' party fuck up so badly?

What you just typed IS INSANE. NO ONE IS ADVOCATING NEUTERING CHILDREN. In fact, a lot of trans people will have sperm or eggs frozen for possible use later. If you are talking mentally disabled people, then yeah, they should be neutered...but not because of their genetics. My mother worked for a family with a boy who was mentally disabled and by the time he was 16 he was fully grown and would fly into violent rages. The hormones damage themselves and others.
AND FOR THE LAST TIME, starting hormones BEFORE PUBERTY limits the amount of surgery. Breasts and hips form, deeper voices and hair forms, ect. A "mature" brain doesn't change gender, just as it didn't change it for anyone here. No one is coercing these kids! I'm sure their parents would rather they NOT be transgender.

"Bill Nye Is Manipulating Science to Promote Transgenderism, Says American College of Pediatricians Pres." headline
Despite its impressive sounding title, the American College of Pediatricians IS NOT A POSSESSIONAL ORGANIZATION.
"The American College of Pediatricians (ACPeds) is an ADVOCACY GROUP of pediatricians and other healthcare professionals in the United States.[1] The group was founded in 2002 by a group of pediatricians, including Joseph Zanga, a past president of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), as a protest against the AAP's support for adoption by gay couples." Wiki goes on to explain that the group has a national membership of about 500.
The actual MEDICAL organization that certifies pediatricians is THE AMERICAN BOARD of PEDIATRICS. And the voluntary professional organization for pediatrics is the American Academy of Pediatrics with a membership of about 60,000.
So the very moral people who founded the American College of Pediatricians aren't so honest as to be above trying to bamboozle people like poor jsf into thinking that they're a medical organization making medically-based statements.
Care to try addressing the facts, again?
Or do you shoot nothing but blanks?

I think there's a lot of truth to that. Growing up in school anybody who could dance was called a "fag" all the time by the guys that couldn't dance. Now all you hear is jokes about how white guys can't dance, and outside of actual gay white guys it's actually kinda true because of that. I was super athletic as a kid and would have been a great dancer, but I was also terribly shy and easily influenced by peer pressure so I wouldn't even dream of it. Instead I did stuff like karate that I hated.
Men were a lot more expressive of their sexuality in the generation preceding mine. Think disco and watch a classic basketball game and how short the shorts were compared to the 3 pound knee length shorts they wore in the 90's up to now.

I'm gender questioning, have been since I was about two years old. Long fights with my mom who would "dress me up like a gorramn doll."
I have long thought that I have very non-feminine tendencies, as you all know. A lot of things I see women do seems to me like I'd be putting a square peg in a round hole. A lot of it, to me, feels just plain wrong. I used to sneak into the boys bathroom at school when I was six to nine or so, and then and now I can safely say I couldn't have cared less about other people's junk. It's all pretty gross. What guys have seem convenient and not a pure nightmare fest to me, but still just pretty weird ultimately. I just wanted to use the toilet and not be bothered by other people.
I'm lazy. I go along to get along, and I pass as my assigned gender because I just don't give enough of a damn anymore, but like hell am I going to get dolled up for that shitty masquerade. At the same time, I'm never going to bother to transition, even though transitioning would probably make me more correct to the person I really am. I don't care what pronoun people call me by, though it's a hell of a lot easier to identify as a guy online, and every time people have figured out I wasn't cis-male online, it's gone to hell really fast. I do not even want to deal with that shit. Being agender/fluid/nonbinary is easy, and it's not a lie, I don't really fall into specific categories very well, and sometimes it's goes better for everyone to be one than the other and switch as necessary.
I am, have been, and will probably always be a deeply unhappy person. There's no shiny story ending for me, just a lot of boredom and drudgery and generally feeling cynical, insignificant and unimportant. But none of that particularly has had much to do about what gender I am, aside from a few moments of horror during puberty. My gender was more just something I've always known.
My experiences are not the experiences of others though. Some people feel the horror of it a lot more acutely. I'm just tired.

Also, 1Kiki, Wish, I appreciate your prior responses in this thread.
I don't plan to get into it or debate particulars on this issue. It is what it is. I have never wanted kids and never wanted to play mom from two years old on. I don't think a two year old can be brainwashed by government conspiracies, and listening to people tell me that I am not what I have always thought and felt I am, and that I should force myself to have kids because otherwise I'm damned to hell because mormonism, or because politics, even though I would SUUUUUCK as a parent, and it would hormonally and psychologically imbalance me further, has done me far more psychological harm than just embracing who I am.
I have a brother who will have kids instead. Good enough.

DARIA!! *hugs*.... or high-five. Me and the kid have been watching a lot of that. I love that everyone asks her if she's depressed and Jane says "No, she's just a realist."
I think people who think life is something other than that, generally have something very, very wrong.
Garrison Keillor always says "Life is a struggle, and if you aren't struggling life will come along and fix that for you."
The only reason to have kids is they keep you going. If I hadn't had one Hubbs and I would've eaten lead years ago. Right about the time I heard the words Rheumatoid Arthritis pointed in my direction...
Going to work every day, doing the dishes and laundry and providing food every day...it's soul drenchingly dull for realists. We have the brain power to realize it could all be soo different, but to know and see that it never can be is disturbing. And tiring.
I'm glad you don't have kids. You did what you knew was right for you, and that can be hard. Stop apologizing for doing the right thing.

I second that.
If somebody has a problem with you not having kids, tell them to eat shit. If the world around us is any indication, they'll probably be of the 9 out of 10 parents who royally fuck their kids up along the way, so who are they to judge?
With 7 billion people on the planet growing exponentially, I think that choosing not to have children is a virtue. ESPECIALLY if you truly believe that it would be a bad idea for yourself and for them. At least half of the children out there would have been better off if their parents had their tubes tied at 18 and gotten a dog instead.
