My cousin wasn't bitchin' about it. Just stating a fact after I saw some of her pictures from Scotland. She told me that if I ever got to Scotland don't bother with the family. Just do my own thing.
Which is also why when they dragged their sorry arses over here a number of years ago that she said, "They were boring old white folks."
In your family's case Jack. I would say it was the class thing. Old Europe was very class conscious and marrying out of your class was deeply frowned upon.

Just fwiw - today was yet another day where a thick layer of low smoke hung from horizon to horizon. It turned the sunlight to a murky feeble orange when it came through at all.

So... I've got what I think is a pretty amusing story at my own expense today.
I had it all planned out, or so I thought...
Today was the day that I got my tires and new windshield installed. :)
Tires went without a hitch. Although, I find it funny that nobody mentioned to me that I was missing a bolt on one of my tires. I didn't mention it to them either, so no harm no foul I guess.
But then... the windshield.
Had quite a few people in front of me, so I did a lot of wandering around. Bought some new break pads at an auto store that was close by, got some coffee, just wandered around. When I got back my car was already being worked on. So far so good.
Guy calls me up to the register and I thought it was done. Says he's got some bad news.... Uh Oh.
I told him the wrong year of the car, so they had the wrong windshield. Even worse, the broken one was already out. What a dipshit I am. I gave them the year of my brother's car that was on my driveway for 3 years instead of mine. I got them mixed up!!!! (To add insult to injury, I'm probably going to have to exchange these break pads most likely as well).
So I was about to walk 14 miles home when one of the guys that ran the place asked where I lived and offered to give me a ride home if I could wait an hour since he lived close by. Awesome! We got to talking about this and that in the car and halfway during the ride home he even offers to pick me back up tomorrow on his way back in. Even better, he starts late so my car will be ready when we get there. He didn't even want any gas money.
What a great thing to do for somebody. It's nice to experience something like this every once in a while and know that there still are a lot of good people out there.
Unfortunately, my dumb ass didn't grab my house keys when I left, so I had to get in through a window, and my doors only unlock with a key inside as well, so I'll be leaving through the window on my way out tomorrow. I've got spares somewhere, but I must have hid them really well 6 years ago.
It's a shame too, since I regularly pick up various tools and sets at a clearance bargain at work and most of them are unopened. I thought it would be nice to give him one of them since he won't take any money, but I wouldn't be able to get back into my garage until I get my car and come home.
I'm probably going to swing by there one of these days after work and drop it off and let them know it's from the guy he gave the ride to. Generosity like that shouldn't go unrecriprocated.

You are right to repay that man. Generosity like that shouldn't go unpaid. It was very good of him to do all of that for a strange.
Gives me hope that maybe someone will do something nice for me one of these days.
