I'm having all of my teeth except for the back five on each side of the bottom removed today. Had to fight a bit to get that done... Everybody seems to think that's going to be a huge transition all at once and recommended I just get the ones that absolutely needed to be pulled at first and work with partials and then get the dentures when I needed them. But I'm done with these teeth. The only reason I'm keeping the ones at the bottom that are still good and could probably be saved for the rest of my life with good dental care is because a full denture on the bottom is supposed to be misearable.
My upper pallet is built right for it. They could barely pull the mold out because of the suction up there. I shouldn't ever need glue for the top.
But the whole thing is costing me $3,700 + another near $500 in six months when I need to get them re-aligned. That knocks me back to the amount of money I had saved in December of 2018. Really not that bad considering I've been unemployed for half of that time and I've put all of this money back into the house as well.
Still though... I have one tooth that has been wobbly for about a year. I've really been moving it around and loosening it since around Christmas knowing this appointment was coming up. I was going to pull it yesterday, but I thought better of it and I'm going to do it right before my appointment in case it doesn't go well.

Well... managed to pull out the one on my own and make it to my appointment with 2 minutes to spare.
Appointment was set for 3 hours total, but I was home 1 1/2 hours later. I don't think they usually expect a patient to be as agreeable as I am. I didn't get a discount for that though, or for the fact that there was no gas.
It's going to take a bit to adjust to this new normal. I'm having a bit of a hard time talking coherently right now, although the person on the other end of the phone said that I sounded fine. I still can't feel my upper lip because of the novocaine, so that no doubt is contributing at least a little to this.
I absolutely hate the feeling of the denture. I've barely seen them at all, as to how they're exactly constructed. Only the teeth. I feel they are way too short, but I suppose that is what healthy teeth look like and I'm just comparing them to the length of the teeth that I've been living with for years.
I don't feel sick or anything, and with a bit of over the counter pain killers I don't feel any pain that I was worried about because it was beginning to hurt all over even though the novocaine was clearly still working.
I will be taking it easy today. Maybe binge watch some Hoarders and try to get my mind off of it. It's so gross. They still haven't stopped bleeding yet.
Oh well... I'm glad this is finally over. I'm sure by this time next week none of this will be bothering me anymore.

Jack, I think this is in the short-term a qualified YES! it went well ... and in the long term a good move for your overall health. Having diseased teeth as a point of chronic infection and inflammation can't be a good thing!
You need to make sure the clots stay in place, I think. Healing cells need them to migrate through, to create protective scar tissue. Otherwise you might get what is called 'dry socket' ... At least that's what I was told many years ago during some wisdom tooth extractions.
Anyway, I'm sure you have a crap-ton of after-care instructions!
So, anyway, as remote as my good wishes are, Jack, I'm pulling for your swift and complete recovery!

I'm glad it went well so far, SIX.
I'm going to repeat KIKI's advice: Leave the clots in place. Don't suck on them, don't try to rinse them out, don't use a straw, don't drink anything fizzy ... treat the extractions very very gently. Maybe drink Boost or some liquid for a few days since you have a lot of tender areas.
My hubby had a wisdom tooth extracted and that clot, it just really really bothered him and he kept sucking on it and sucking on it until it came out, and THEN he was in a crap-ton of pain!!! So just ... don't.
AFA dentures ... I think, altho not sure, that the dentures that you have are temporary? Because the gums will shrink and harden as they heal, and the denture will need to be changed to keep up with your new gumline for a better fit. But I could be wrong.
Take care, take it easy for three or four days ... as hard as that might be for you to do, no strenuous work, you don't want to start bleeding. You went thru a Big Deal, treat it that way!

Yeah... there's a lot of aftercare instructions. Most of them I'm following except for the smoking one. They were definitely not written by somebody who smokes and/or ever went through something like this. I'm sure I'll live.
I've already got the immediate denture and partial in. I'm not supposed to wear them at night except for this first night until my followup visit. It's kind of a "band aid" right now.
The pain is actually quite manageable and won't be an issue. I feel a little bit, but considering I've only taken 1000mg of acetaminophen, that's not too bad. Defo not taking that Narco shit they prescribed to me. Not even getting that scrip filled.
I'm a little concerned that the bleeding is still happening though. It's been quite a few hours now since the visit concluded and I'm still bleeding. As far as I know, I don't have any clotting issues. I'm always cutting my hands at work or while working and they stop bleeding quickly, and this is hardly the first time I've lost a tooth by now. Maybe the meds I took have thinned out my blood a bit?
My mouth has to smell like a toilet right now. I can't wait until tomorrow night when I can take them out and give everything a good cleaning.

Getting acclimated to the new normal pretty quickly, I think.
After about 4 hours I was already REALLY looking forward to the 2nd dose of acetaminophen, but I waited the full six and by the 5th hour it barely hurt anymore anyhow. I was going to wait longer, but I had started eating by then and it was a bit painful.
Those first few spoonfuls of rice/vegetables were bad... really bad. I thought to myself "how the hell am I going to do this for the rest of my life". It got better as it went on though and by the time the meds knocked out most of the pain I had added the burger patties to the mix and it was alright.
I wasn't able to really chew the food as much as I would have liked, but that's probably because of the swelling. I'm hoping in a few days that isn't an issue anymore. But I got a full belly of food right now and these things are starting to feel like a part of me after that.
Bleeding seems to have more or less stopped. I read online it could still be happening 3 to 4 days after the procedure, so no big deal if there's a little here or there.
I'm really going to have to practice my speech though, and if the swelling going down doesn't fix it, I'm going to have to kind of re-teach myself how to talk. I can talk well enough that somebody understands me, but I hate the way it sounds. I'm afraid to try singing now and seeing if it just destroyed my singing voice. That may be something I'm never going to be able to do well again. Fingers crossed on that one.
Hoping the feeling of claustrophobia goes away soon too, and I'm really wondering what it's going to feel like at night when I'm not wearing them after they've healed.

My follow up visit is soon and it can't come soon enough.
I haven't taken these things out for a single second, as per instructions.
I have, however, occasionally very lightly done a mouthwash rinse which it says not to do. I absolutely have to. It feels so gross in my mouth right now after being in overnight. I want them out so badly, if only to clean them and the rest of my mouth.
The pain is almost gone. I took a 500mg pill 3 or 4 hours ago. In total, 2500mg of acetaminophen since the procedure. Probably won't need anymore after today, and I'm only going to take 1 pill as I need it instead of two like I did twice yesterday before going to sleep.
Speech is still pretty bad though. Overall it's okay, but my "sssssss"'s are not. If I'm not careful, I can almost make them accidentally whistle when I'm talking how I used to before they went in. I'm hoping once the wounds heal that there's a little more room and this isn't all going to be on me to re-learn speech.
I'm not really noticing any swelling. I didn't use an ice pack at all yesterday, and my face hasn't blown up at all. It is weird though not seeing the sunk in cheeks that I grew kind of fond of over the years after I lost the molars. Guess I'm going to just have to stay in good shape now if I don't want to look fat in the future.

Nothing but flurries and occasional drizzles in the foreseeable future around here.
But today, it's freaking cold in my house. Bad news is, it's not any colder than it was the last two days. I'm wondering if my immune system is in overdrive or something and that's why I feel so cold right now. I don't feel sick or anything, but I'm absolutely freezing right now and actually kicked the thermostat to 66 which is higher than I've ever had it since I lived here.

Wasn't too active today, but I'm bored of sitting and watching youtube.
So I did my taxes. I'll finish up all my rebates tomorrow and get it all to the PO. First time in a decade probably that I wasn't mailing them on the last possible day. Good thing too, since I'm getting back about 4 times as much as usual.
