I will be mailing in my application for a dealer table tomorrow morning, but even if I don't get a space there, I'll be present and accounted for a D*C 08 (my first!!)

That's why I have 3 (yes three) rooms reserved in my name at the Marriot already! I may not need all three, depending on how many of my sister's family is coming with her. When I know for sure if I have extra bed/floor/bathtub sleeping space, I will post here.

I'm going to CONvergence in June with a bunch of friends though and I don't know if I can manage this too. Must start planning and such.

Everyone keeps telling me I have to go to D*C, but after going to Otakon for many years, I kinda tired on huge conventions. Is D*C just a huge mass of people, or can you actually get into events/small functions?

When I went to last years D*C I managed to get into most of the things that I wanted to. There was some pretty massive lines, and once or twice I had to beg and use sympathy to get in...but in general it was alright. There was also the crazy stuff with the fire marshall not letting people into hotels, but overall I'd say the good outnumbered the bad at D*C. It never put me off though, I'll be booking my flights for D*C'08 as soon as possible.

Blackadder...mostly for me it was a chance to meet everyone face to face and have fun... didn't go to any events ( though I went to a ton of room parties...Browncoat1's rocks!!!!)

As of right now, I'm out - put in the vacation-time request, but due to some greedy hou zi de pi-gu skimming on his vacation pay last year, everybody has been disallowed from taking anything but a Sun-Sat vaca week. So unless I take a full two weeks at the end of August, it ain't lookin' rosy. There's still a chance and I'll know better in a couple of months.

My dweeb of a trainmaster explained that basing vacation time on anything but a Sun-Sat week allowed some guys to get away with being nowhere near the railroad for about three weeks....should've asked him, Why the hell would anybody WANT to be near the railroad for three weeks while they're vacating? WTFO.

Oh she is not boring... stop that HK:) She is adorable...and if you're really nice and bring cold Mountain Dew in a can....she might even give you one of her beautiful smiles.

I wanted the Hyatt and it was nearly completely booked and was booked for the 28th( which I waitlisted) and I had to book outside the con for the night of the 1st with a different room rate... I think the code only goes through the morning of the first...

No fair! If I had vacation(don't) and cash(HA!) and time(where's my Tardis?) and could talk the wife into it(barely got permission to think about going to E3, the last year they had it), I could go. Plus, that means days of no thread funness while at work.

I have 6 locks on my door and bolt every other one. I figure no matter how long somebody stands there picking the locks, they're always locking 3 locks.

Well, my flight isn't booked yet, and nor is my hotel, but I plan to fix that soon.
There might be a boy there, so I don't know if anyone will want to deal with rooming with us
However, if you aren't going to mind an occasional, um, lockout, or if things fall through and he can't make it, I'm happy to be splitting the costs. My dad is awesome and will help me pay for the whole thing, but still.

I'll be aiming for the Hyatt.

You only need a credit card number they won't charge the card ...oh and if you can't get it, ask to be put on the wait list in case someone cancels their reservation... just thought you should know that as they will not volunteer that information when you go to make the reservation

OK - got the last week of August off, so right now I'm back in. Haven't made travel/hotel arrangements as of yet. There might be a few other NEBCs coming, but as a contingency plan, anybody seeking after a roomie? Interesting indeed, especially when it comes to guests since D*C doesn't, to my understanding, pay for guests rooms. My wife is a guest of the Con and she was told over the weekend that they have no room for us on Thursday, Aug 28th. We are trying to go through D*C channels to get that changed, but so far no luck.

According to the Hyatt, their rooms are nearly completely gone. The Marriott Marquis is saying all of their rooms are booked through the holiday weekend due to the big game and the early birds for D*C.

My worry is what about the guests who are not booked yet? What will they do for a room if all the hotels are booked up? The Hilton has some rooms left, but not many according to the manager.

Just got a call from the Hyatt manager. Seems that a D*C staffer called them and straightened out the reservation SNAFU. They were able to get our suite for us on Wednesday and Thursday nights as well.

another thing to note is the fact that there's always a "big game" that weekend. at least, there has been for the past several years that i've been attending D*C.

Well, I just booked the 29th through the 1st at the Hyatt and had no problems whatsoever. Possibly because I asked for a double room, I'm not sure, but they didn't mention any problems with overbooking. Maybe they're really booked on the 28th? But that doesn't make sense if it's about the game on the 30th.

Actually, just found out that flights from England land fairly late in the day, so I bumped my reservation up to the 28th, and there was no issue at all, so I don't see why they'd have you waitlisted. If they keep being stupid, though, I'll ask Dano about you camping with us for that night

Well, the good news is i was able to extend the room for an extra night. Bad news is no more group rate at the Marriott. I even called the hotel itself and they wouldn't switch me to the group rate. Maybe if I argue and whine at registration they'll cave.

I checked the Hyatt website too. Also says sold out. So its looking pretty grim for folks who haven't made reservations yet.

BA - their site always says full for those days. You have to call and tell them that you are going to D*C and they will reserve you a room.

I just tried to change my reservation to use my Marriott Rewards points, and it gave me an extra room for free. Now I have two rooms, one of which is free. WTF?? Now I have to cancel my original reservation.

Ya'll ain't lying about the scarcity of the Hell's Kitten. I saw her checking in, and that was it!

I tapped her on the shoulder, said Hi and continued on, her look of confusion completely lost on me. Three steps later, I slapped myself on the forehead..."She doesn't know what I look like!" Went back and showed her my badge.

So...I do know that she exists!

In worse news...I probably won't be making it to D*C this year. Money, and primarily a lot of frustration my keep me from going again this year. Unless there's a spectacular guest (hint, Jewel...hint). Then again, who knows. Adam Hughes was my favorite part of last year, and he's not going this year...

We'll see.

I wouldn't take a chance on canceling anything until you have solid confirmation numbers given to you by a human being (and make sure you write their name down when you're talking to them on the phone so if any problems arrive you can say, "Sandy told me on the phone on January 16th...!)

I'm not saying you didn't get a free room, I'm just saying be careful-- you don't want to go there thinking you have 2 rooms and find out you have none. (I'm paranoid that way-- well, in more ways than that one, but that's another story)
