OK Kiddies -
I have done my (unfortunately) last post for a couple of days. Will be on the road until late Saturday night and will likely be tired then.
Will read, catch up and post as soon as possible thereafter, assuming someone has left me something to read.
Cheers all and I will pass out hugs from the Ladies to our CapnRahn. Will have Decoy pass out handshakes from you male types.
Astriana - my prayers and best juju to you, Bob, Shell and the whole rest of Florida in the days to come. Spare a thought for my cats that I have had to leave behind. Not as important as people to be sure, but dear to me...

supplemental - and probably incoherent this time of night.
My cat-sitter woke me up in a panic - could not find a hotel willing to take 4 cats (2 mine, 2 theirs) and watching Ivans tracks was getting scared enough to flee Florida.
Checking my records I have managed to book myself in a pet-friendly hotel for gods-know-what reason for the trip up AND back (used same half-way hotel).
So in the wake of IVAN scaring my friends into leaving Florida, will be schlepping my cats along with me. Which pretty much means DeeCee crying all the way to Indinanpolis, since neither one of them are car-friendly.
Wish us luck - the person who called me at midnight scared out of his gourd, does not actually scare easily.
Fortuitous Karmic Happenstance I was already
1: leaving the state
and
2: booked in a hotel that will take pets.

When do you set out, hon? How do the cats respond to catnip? If they stone out and fall asleep, then perhaps you should stop by my house and have Bob freshen some of your cats' toys with the Catnip Extract that we have at home. They could relax and sleep the whole way up and back... no mess, no stress, no worries...

Lucky mamma that I am, one cat will NOT touch catnip at all, the other one eats fresh catnip with eager anticipation and no reaction whatsoever. I have some catnit extract of my own, Diamond wants to lick it off of anything and DeeCee hides from the smell.
We are leaving around 4:30 this evening. We will be OK I am sure. I will let you know when we reach our destination safely.
I am far more worried about you guys ...

We stopped by Sam's last night and stocked up on general supplies and stuff for the hurricane. We made sure that anything perishable was something that would be okay if we end up losing power again. I'm going to go through today and split up the lunchmeats and stuff and put them in the freezer. (A full freezer will keep cold for up to 48 hours without power.)
Fireflygal (Aleta) called the handyman to come out and board the place up today - I'm glad to see she's Ivan his due. Looks like we're also planning to buy some dry ice on Sunday or early Monday, again in case we lose power. Meoriar and I are going to make sure the coolers are set up well in advance with plenty of ice, and I'm going to do all the laundry and cleaning this weekend.
We should be okay. The experiences of the last few weeks have given us a real good idea what holes need to be filled in our hurricane preparedness. What I can't be sure of is where we're going to go if the storm is projected to be more than a Category 3. Initially, I thought we could go up to the rental in New Port Richey, but since that took roof damage (that probably can't get fixed before Ivan gets here *sigh*), I'm thinking that's a bad idea.

We had a dog who would get carsick during long car trips. We fed her half a tablet of dramameine inside a soft oatmeal cookie, and she slept for the entire trip. Not that I'm encouraging drug use for pets or anything, I'm just saying...
