Why would I give up even the smallest part of that for someone like (c)Rappy?
That seems reasonable, I'm just not sure how

I would go so far as to say this: I would give up everything without qualm if it would guarantee a fair humane world.
can exist without allowing that some people, like AuRaptor, might benefit from it?
I suppose a world can only be as fair as its inception, or the people allowed to be part of it.

Byte, I hope you realize my post to you was part of a conversation with you and not addressed to (c)Rappy. So please take it in that spirit.

"... can exist without allowing that some people, like AuRaptor, might benefit from it?"
(c)Rappy could not exist in that world. It would mean that everyone is cared for, that some do not benefit at the expense of others, that long-term survival is preferred to short-term extravagance. ie It is a utopia which will sadly never exist. So the existence or non-existence of a person like (c)Rappy and the potential for his benefit or lack of it in a never-to-be world is moot.

Replying to Geezer because I'm too lazy to break this down, but it's to others too:
Oh, gawd, he's funny sometimes:Quote:

It's YOU who is stuck in the group mentality mindset, of seeing people only as members of this or that group, set, sub-set, etc.Quote:
Ooops, seldom do you contradict yourself in just two sentences, Raptor, I think that's a new record for you! Oh, wait, you did it again later:
You misreading and misrepresenting my view is a standard tactic of the LeftQuote:
No group mentality there, no seeing people only as members of a group, set, subset, etc. You betcha!
The classic Left wing demonizing of anyone who dares to not participate in their utopian, group think paradigm.
Congrats, Sig, on quoting him; I don't save stuff and haven't your or Mike's ability to find stuff, or I'd enjoy throwing what he's said back at him. And I'm glad to hear that crack was a joke, Geezer, 'cuz it doesn't take a "vault"...both of them know how to do searches for specific things, a quality I much admire. If nobody showed what Raptor said in the past, he could pretend to be whatever he wants, different each day. As it is, he leaves so many footprints of his ugliness, it's not hard at all to throw them back in his face. Not that it ever does any good, he just gives out with his usual "you're lying" and goes on his way But the picture you described was funny, I could see it in my mind. Just as it's so easy to see the one of Raptor:

Quote:
Mine too, don't forget, and I HAVE agreed with you in the past. You make yourself such a wonderful target (intentionally, I'm guessing) by making such asinine statements and being so nasty about it, few could resist calling you on them.
I'm so much the focus of their vitriolic attention
As to threads where people are advised not to respond to you, that's me, and only me, as far as I'm aware. Sig and Mike LOVE responding to you, it probably gives them some of the best laughs they get all day. I'm the one who's sick to death of your attempts to trigger others and your complete idiocy, and reminds others of the minutes they waste which they'll never get back by treating you as if you WANT to communicate. I don't mind wasting those few minutes, or the ones spent calling you out, I gots lots of minutes to spare, and I don't spend NEARLY the amount of time here that you do, which shows YOU don't mind wasting a lot more of them playing your game here. Quote:
But YOU never mischaracterize or lie about what someone has said, it only happens TO you, right? See previous quote.
Basically sayin you'd like to kill me, for having my own views
Raptor's getting old as entertainment goes, so I'm going to ignore the rest of this little back and forth. I think you guys are in "respond-to-Raptor" mode and are lumping Geezer along with him; I don't see it. But you didn't touch a nerve, Geezer, as I said, they're in "respond-to-Raptor" mode, during which it's possible to mistake what anyone writes as agreeing with him. Part of his game, and all too often it works. Just don't let yourself be caught up in it, please; it's a major pastime for Mike and Sig, but a worthless one.
Frem: You're not alone. Up behind Stanford Univesity used to be a kind of think tank for bright students...it was the first place we played "pong", long before it was made available to the public. Their huge (I mean HUGE) computer-bank room was called "Mordor"--even had a sign on the door saying that! Tolkein lives, and always will!
For a discussion of tsunami, this sure went off track into a personal firestorm. Shame. I don't have anythi

Quote:Some people ARE monsters. I've spent many many posts talking with rappy when nobody else would, and have given up on him ever changing. It's not that rappy is asocial or in some ways "out of the mainstream". I KNOW "out of the mainstream". Rappy's problem is that he constantly advocates ripping out cooperation and grinding people down. If you don't see that, then you're one of the very few.
Spend some time building someone up into a monster, then yes, it becomes easy to deal with them. The question that defines all of us, what we do, how we act, is are we still willing to see other people as human? If we see their flaws, and the pain they inflict on others, do we still push them out of the way of danger? Do we still try to save them? Perhaps both approaches have their merits
They say that people like him operate from a perspective of fear, and that fear drives them to destroy others. Also to kissing the ass of whichever authority they think will make them "safe"... in his case, the wealthy. I see that in rappy, I really do. He was in a complete panic after 9/11 and was ready to destroy as many people as it took for him to feel "safe" again. But at some point, choices create consequences. rappy is lucky that the consequences of his self-centeredness are ONLY that people on a website don't like him, and quire frankly I don't see why anyone would even want to defend him.

Lots of that going around, it seems. Hell, Rappy - you and Geezer seem to be in love with ME at the moment, the way y'all troll around after my every post.
Ironically, both of you have claimed in the last year or so that you're done with this place and have left in a huff - only AFTER posting your little bitch-pieces and cry-babying about it to everyone here.
Yet here you both still are, both still refusing to answer questions and claiming that we aren't deserving of your response.
What I see in you two is just two more "right-whingers" who have absolutely nothing of substance to add or offer. And there's not a jot of difference between you.

Now, am I the only one here who remembers that (c)Rappy approves of torture; has absolutely no concern for the old, the young, the sick or disabled; just hates it when people loyally band together out of common cause and wants to destroy them (ie unions); and approves of anything, ANYTHING, which makes HIM money especially at someone else's expense?
You've pretty much nailed it 100%, Kiki. He has posted things which support those positions more than once.
