Hi.

The recent post from our new friend KIR86 got me thinking. What are the things we wonder about regarding Firefly? What are the mysteries? I'd rather not discuss these questions so much as list them. Although, if some of you can point to prominent threads on this board which deal with the questions on the list, please do so.

Here's my quick list, in no particular order:

Does the series take place in one solar system or multiple systems?

Who and what are the Reavers, and how did they get that way?

What are the details of Book's past, especially with regard to the reception he received in "Safe"?

What are the real meanings of the Inner Thoughts that River was picking up from each character at the beginning of "Objects in Space", and was River physically present for each of them or just wandering around psychically or "incorporeally"?

For what purpose was River being altered by the bad guys?

Who was the group that got River out of her situation?

What are the limits to River's psychic powers?

How is the Blue Sun corporation tied up in River's situation?

Since Joss told us that Inara's syringe in "Serenity" was not a suicide kit, what was it?

Why did Inara leave her cushy life in the Core Worlds to travel on Serenity?

Is Inara older than she looks?

What is Zoe's surname (or maiden name, if she changed it when she got married)?

What is Wash's real name?

What are the names of Wash's dinosaurs?

I'll answer the last one.

The two dinosaurs in the opening bridge scene in "Serenity" are named Grrr and Arrgh.

Ok, so then why is the little guy at the end of every ep running after them and calling for them? Are they his pets? Or does he have some sort of beef with them, like, they owe him money or something?

(Yes, this really is the way my mind works.)

Well, good to know that at long last.

Now I can sleep nights.

I'll add a few that aren't really "great mysteries".

What is YoSaffBrig's real name?

Did anything bad happen to Shadow? Or, why does Mal not like to discuss his homeworld?

What did Zoe do before the war?

Did the Alliance begin on Earth or after the diaspora?

What kind of birth control does Kaylee use?

Are companions organized more like a religion, or a guild, or something else?

What does Jayne's family look and act like?

[/tongue in cheek ]

I shaved off my beard for you, devil woman!

LOL. btw, did you notice that in Bushwacked when the fed commander questions Wash the feds looking in his room are shown, and in one particular moment a fed holds up one of the dinasours, looks at it and then throws it aside?

More mysteries:

- What happened to Early? Is he alive?
- Who are the people who helped Simon to get River out? How come we never heard of other students from the academy, if there were so many people interested in saving them?
- What's the thing with Inara in the beginning of Serenity, when the guy asks her why she left Sihnon and her face gets all weird?
- Is Saffron mentally ill? (No, seriously. Like Cleptomania but with killng/marrying people)
- When will Kaylee and Simon kiss?
- Why did Fox have to cancel the show??? Why???

That's it. I think.

You can't take the sky from me.

How long before we join our heroes did mankind leave Earth-that-Was?

Actually, that brings up a larger version of the question (with its own threads :):

What happened to the Earth-that-Was?

How far away is it?

Can it be reached again?

A few more, if I may:

1. What did Mal do before the war? He seemed mighty attached to that cross in the battle of Serenity... might HE have been a Shepherd?

2. What did Wash do during the war? Is it canon that he did not fight inthe war? And if so, why was a crack pilot not made use of on either side?

3. Jayne said in The Train Job that he "didn't fight in no war." So what did he do? You would have thought that a highly armed soldier of fortune would have found some way to profit from the war. Did the mudder experience happen during the war?

4. How long did the war last?

5. Whatever became of Mechanic #1? Might he be wandering around the 'verse somewhere with a grudge against our big danm heroes?
