Traveler: my mouse will do that sometimes. It usually means there is gunk on the ball or the little rollers inside. I open it up, clean the ball, clean the rollers and then I'm good for awhile. I suppose this only applies if you're still using an old skool ball mouse instead of an optical one.
Ponder: Well, I don't usually call in for sleep deprivation. I will call in if I'm feeling super exhausted/maybe sick-ish. But even then, I will come in late rather than take a whole day. Thing with me is, if I sleep, I can ward off most colds/maladies, so it's beneficial. I am usually only that kind of tired when I'm fighting something...so. I'll make it be 10/11a.m. and then work the 6 hours I'm allowed to without taking a break.
If I know that I'm going to be super tired for some reason, I will schedule time off. For instance, after a horse show day or when I went to those mid-week concerts. I schedule coming in at 10 or 11 rather than call in.
Unexpected tired (anything less than 5 hours) rarely results in calling in, but it does result in grumpy me. :D

LOL Zeek- ok I'll give you my schedule as a trade.
See I don't mind sleep deprivation ( I get about 4 hours a night normally) but this week I got about 2 hours each night from Thursday thruough Tuesday( sadly not 2 hours in a row just 2 total.. in 20-30 minute increments) so by that point I think I was so moon brained it actually qualified as some kind of sickness
OK so how would you guys respond to this. I wrote a behavior plan for a student that included a " think paper" for when he misbehaved enough to get sent to the office. Think paper basically asks the kid to analyze what he was doing before he got in trouble, why that caused a problem, and what he will do differently next time. According to the child advocate this is child abuse and is demeaning and "judgemental and condemning him for perfectly natural behavior" ( the perfectly natural behaviro being throwing several objects at a teacher and attempting to beat another student with a baseball bat)

Seconded. With a video camera present of course. ANyone see the video of a Seattle cop punching a 17 year old girl? Video on the morning news broadcast was cut short, but the girls involved clearly have a few issues. Also, the officer involved had horrible control on the situation.
The only one with any good sense is the guy in the turquoise pulling pink shirt girl away.

I vote we have a new rule that you can only be involved with kids if you're a certified grown up...
Yeah I adore te 3 page email I got from the advocare insisting I was being emotionally abusive to suggest the child be asked to think about their behavior because I was labling that behavior " bad" when it was just an attempt to communicate. Also before this she sent me an email filled with f-bombs about my plan. She's obviously very professional:) To love someone is to see a miracle invisible to others.

How is that guy a cop? He looks like he hasn't had a day of training. Doesn't he know how to subdue a person at all?
He might not have felt like she was a major threat or anything but what if she had gone for his gun at some point. Jeez man.
Doesn't he at least have a tazer to threaten these people with? Punching that one girl was a terrible idea. I'm actually impressed that he wasn't mobbed.

My thoughts exactly. He had no control over the girl and he's lucky no one else got involved. I kept thinking he must be a rent-a-cop/security guard rather than the actual police. Anyone know? He's not going to be whatever he is for long, that's for sure.
MsA...that's ridiculous. You're not saying the child is a bad child, but that their behavioural choices are bad. That advocate needs to be hit over the head with a bat. Maybe the kid can do it.

I think a lot of cops need mroe training on dealing with teenagers...
Just had an incident at teh high school where a mentally handicapped kid was brandishing a butter knife ( he was upset) and instead of talking him down the school cop pulled a gun and was prepared to shoot the kid. I stepped in and told the kid I was busy and needed him to put it down and come with me so we wouldn't be late. He dropped the knife and happily went with me... I refrained from calling the officer a moron.( because I am very professional) To love someone is to see a miracle invisible to others.

Are you sure the training would tell them to talk the kids down? My guess is the training would tell him to do just what he did. If the kid has a weapon of any kind you go nuclear.
I don't even know if I can blame them. If he failed at talking the kid out of doing something and a person got stabbed that guy would never hear the end of it. If he shot a kid with a knife he'd probably be supported much better.
