I know the year hs not ended yet, but we should start this list before we've forgotten too many. Soon the holiday onslaught will be upon us and many decent flicks will fade in our memories.

The obvious candidates:

Star Trek.
Terminator Salvation.
The International.

Gee whiz, I've already forgot so many.

I'll update the list here from the replies.

District 9 - 8
Up - 8
Watchmen - 6
Star Trek - 6
Moon - 4
Harry Potter HBP - 3
The Hurt Locker - 3
Inglorious Bastards - 3
The Hangover - 2
Transformers 2 - 2
Terminator Salvation
The International.
500 Days of Summer.
Black Dynamite.
In the Loop.
The Cove (Docu)
It Might Get Loud (Docu)
Drag Me To Hell.
Bright Star.
Zombieland
Time Traveler's Wife
Whip It
Paranormal Activity.
Monsters and Aliens

I forgot about District 9. Would not have said 500 days, Watchmen.

Star Trek was great and would probably be on the list, but I wouldn't have Terminator and International. They were entertaining, but not 'best of the year'.

I would add, in no particular order:

Moon
Up
District 9
(500) Days of Summer
Harry Potter HBP
Black Dynamite
In the Loop
The Cove (documentary)
Watchmen

I think these are all 2009 movies...
there are probably more too, just having a hard time remembering them all right now!

Just Star Trek & Watchmen.
Haven't seen Moon yet, but I'm confident it'll be right up there when I do.

Ditto.

Watchmen would probably be top for me. Trek was a lot of fun, but it's kinda slight, so I can't give it the top spot. Am looking forward to Moon, but havn't been able to see it.

I also really liked District 9, so that'd be up there as well.

And while it had good action in it, Terminator Salvation had a train wreck of a script, so it'd fall closer to the bottom of my list.

I haven't watched that many movies this year, at least of ones produced this year.

I review for my own site, SF & Fantasy genres only, and I only write a review for something I can recommend to others. I don't have the time and/or money to watch and review everything.

Here's what I have reviewed this year:
Watchmen
Moon
District 9

I also reviewed a documentary on Harlan Ellison, Dreams With Sharp Teeth, as it was released on DVD this year but was produced in 2007.

One of my other reviewers watched and reviewed Star Trek favorably before I saw it. If she had not written that review I might have changed my policy and finally written a negative review for a change, because I hated nearly everything about the film.

I saw Terminator: Salvation, and while I think it was better than Trek it wasn't good enough to recommend to others.

I've heard nothing but positives about UP but still have not seen it.

It Might Get Loud, another doco, was great fun.
About 3 guitarists, Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin), The Edge (U2), and Jack White (The White Stripes).

Definitely recommend it if you're into music, guitar, or any of the bands these guys have been in.

I also saw Coraline, but on DVD not in the theater, and I had been thinking it was released last year, but it was this February. I wouldn't put it on a "Best Of" list though, since it wasn't as good as the book and the book was just fair to begin with.
