Quick little bump.
Last night's episode was interesting. Some neat parts, but overall a little weak.
Good news is that next week's episode features our favorite psychotic lowlife. So that's worth a bump in and of itself, dontchathink?

It was a little weak. But I liked the fact that they had Myka put Denver behind her. It allows for some character growth since they've had that particular piece of backstory hold her back for so long.
Claudia's faux pas of the episode though? Hilarious. Particularly at the end when Artie wipes the blackboard clean and she just half heartedly says 'no, no, no, no' as he tells her 'this time, write it like you mean it.'

Last nites epp was a metaphor on how effin stupid the human race is, yet it barely manages to survive continual disasters... this time.

I thought last night was a fairly fun romp. It was nice to break the 'artifact of the week' cycle again.
Artie and the Regents was engaging because of the mysterious nature of those in power. Even more so because of the fact they come from all walks of life, and are not simply omniscient beings from high-government lording over the Warehouse. Badger's little speech about those of intelligence was a nice bit of exposition into why those of ordinary background would be in charge of something so powerful.
And the three musketeers in the warehouse were made of win. Claudia makes a great addition to Team Myka and Pete and it's nice to see a group form near family ties (Claudia bear hugging Pete when he saved them) instead doing the usual angsty, reluctantly partnered crap. Further insight into the warehouse and all of it's already acquired artifacts made for good TV. There was so much quirk; super sticky silly string, the depressing life-sucking typewriter, the killer dodgeballs, Leena's B&B ("8.5, next time you gotta stick the landing!"). They all just added to the mythology of the Warehouse and gave it added personality to boot.
I will however gripe that there were some horrific special effects. But, the story made it up for me.
Oh, and best moment ever-
Myka and Claudia: "Pete! PETE! PEEEETE!"
Pete: "CHICKS!"

Gotta agree with ya, Ash. Fun little romp with cringe worthy special effects. Made me wonder why the producers allowed them to be so bad? And how did the previous "victims" escape the B&B? They didn't rip up the painting, that's for sure.
But one thing's for sure. If it's not "artifact of the week" I sure hope they stay away from "What kind of mess will Claudia get herself into this week." Once in a while would be okay, but not all the time.
And again, gotta love Artie. Not upset that they almost destroyed the warehouse just as long as they fixed it in the nick of time.

I laughed when he walked in. The reaction of Myka, Pete and Claudia was one of teenagers on the verge of being busted. The 'oh shit, dad's home' reaction.

A couple of thoughts after last nights episode.
Overall, the episode was nicely done with showing the family dynamic Myka came from as well as solidifying the family dynamic of the Warehouse. I knew McPhearson sent her dad that book the moment I saw the foil bag. "That's a "bag it and tag it" bag!" I said to my wife.
My main thought is that the loyalty issue just may fall on the shoulders of Claudia. McPhearson could have gotten a hold of her before she broke into the warehouse and who better to show her HOW to break into the warehouse than McPhearson?
Then . . . Mrs. Frederick. I'm thinking that Leena and Mrs. Frederick are the same person. Afterall, Artie came into the living room bringing Leena something she asked for, but found Mrs. Frederick instead. Perhaps one or the other has an artifact that allows them to coexist and yet allow Mrs. Frederick to not age.
According to io9.com, they've seen next week's finale and say it's pretty intense and hints at a much darker 2nd season.

Oh, and good news: There IS going to be a second season! 13 episodes have already been ordered, and it's reportedly Syfy's biggest hit ever (2.9 share and gaining audience every week, versus BSG's 2.4 share peak, apparently).
Woo-hoo!
It's still not a *great* show, in my opinion, but it's getting better, and the stories are terrific. The acting is improving (Myka and Pete are the worst, Artie, Mrs. Frederick, and Claudia have nothing to apologize for, and McPherson is perfect in his role), the effects are a bit cheap-looking, but will likely improve.
All in all, I'm glad I didn't write this one off, and I'm glad it's coming back.
