You are right. They don't compare. This "accident" was an unintentional act of stupidty. The Iraq War is a criminal and deliberate act of stupidity.

Replace "criminal" with HEROIC and "stupidity" with bravery.

That ought to do it.

I have to apologize to everyone as I made a feeble attempt at sarcastically bringing across a point by playing Devil's Advocate.

I do know that, as a responsible adult, an 8 year-old cannot, and should not, be handling a weapon of any kind. Period.

Of course, having said that, there are those who believe that no one should question their choices as parents. But clearly, this man felt that he was within his rights to teach his son to shoot guns. It could be argued that he made a poor choice in allowing him to squeeze off a few.

I was trying to make a point about individual rights, common and moral sense, and the law of the land. Should he be charged with criminally negligent homicide? I don't know, and it all depends on the law that's on the books for that particular state. Some might say that he has "suffered" enough with the loss of his son. One thing was clear from the article, he chose to "teach" his son to shoot guns.

Shiny! Let's be bad guys!

Father was dumb, his son paid for it. Period. End of story.

What more is there to talk about?

I learned to shoot .22s when I was his age, like any kid is suppossed to. Not a freakin fully loaded UZI....jeeze.

I mean, when I was teaching my wife to shoot, it was one in the chamber until she got used to the kick.

But whatever, anti-gun folks will use this...while forgetting that private guns protect more lives than take them.

Not to mention protecting our freedoms.

I'm pro responsible gun ownership. But it has to be regulated, like driving an automobile. Demonstrate that you can't do it safely, and restrictions may apply.

Chris,

In this we agree. Its the amount of regulation that we would probably disagree.

A gun, like a Swiss Army knife, is a tool. Most should be allowed to carry one with them wherever they go.

For that all important phrase...

"Just in case."

A Swiss Army knife is a weapon, & a burglar tool under many present laws. Plus: if someone bigger than you attacks you, & you use it to defend yourself while he has no weapon other than his tremendous size- that's attempted murder.

Howz that for back-asswards?

"I know you do understand the principle of it, Chris...

But that gentle slap in there for you, you should not ignore either - look within and tell me you haven't started to file folk you disagree with in a nonperson category, and with me sitting here watching it happen to you.

That's how it starts, you see.

And it's a bad, bad road to travel, cause once you have filed them as "other", you then begin to fear them, hate them, and not for their actions anymore, just that they are "other" - the same road THEY travelled down, once upon a time, until fear, misery and violence consumed them utterly.

Were we face to face, that slap would not have been metaphoric, nor so gentle.

Beware the darkside, Son."

Frem,

Good insight.

But remember, there ARE others. The evil, the low, the stupid.

Human by name/designation only.

These are the ones that need to be culled from the planet/population.

But...I guess, the light needs the dark to differentiate itself. And to make the light all the more precious and bright.

No, there are human that have lost their way, in a few, extreme cases, so badly that they need to be freed from their twisted, mortal shells.
Dehumanizing is a NeoCon thing- don't fall to it's easy level, Wulf.
