Christopher Bizilj died Sunday when he lost control of a 9 millimeter Micro Uzi he was trying out at a gun show at the Westfield Sportsman's Club in Massachusetts.

The boy's father, Charles Bizilj of Ashford, Conn., said Thursday night at Springfield's Sacred Heart Church that his son "lived a lifetime in his short eight years." The father said he and the boy's mother "have no regrets."

Ahh that so nice that they have no regrets.
This guy is a physician at a hospital, worked in the ER, went to an actual school & everything, and still he's gorram STUPID enough to hand a military assault weapon (fully automatic, mind you) to a kid that just got done using his booster seat.

This dad should be brought up on charges, as well as the gun club that sponsored it, IMO.

And in true NeoCon form, he doesn't see his role in his boy's death, as AUDobson said in another thread, "Accidents happen."
Iraq Wars happen too.

What's with these peeps? Nothing is their fault. This man was pushed by our violent society to teach his young boy about Israeli sub machine guns, I guess. Just not the best o' luck that the 8 year old couldn't control the kickback, eh?

Does this incident freak anyone else out as much as it does me?
Is our sanctification of violence in this country out of control now?
Is life so expendable that we can just write this kind of thing off as an 'accident'???

What a fucking idiot.

I would have no regrets if he went to prison and I definately think that he and the Mrs should not be allowed to breed further.

No regrets? Oh man, this DOES sound like a serious case of denial. I cannot imagine a parent honestly feeling this way.

Was he in shock or some such, when he said this?

Either way, this goes so way beyond sanity, I wouldn't ascribe this behavior to any political leanings. Just to plain... craziness. Not to mention all that paunful irresponsibility. Denial sounds about right, maybe his brain refuses to process what he did to his own child?

This is so awful.

But is it a wonder that rightwing-nuts are the ones putting guns in kid's hands? You will NEVER see a Liberal, or a thinking Conservative giving an Uzi to an 8 year old...this isn't the first kid to fire automatic weapons, remember, he's just the first to cap himself because he was out of physical contact with anyone to help him should he need it.
And this dad gave an interview the next day lookin' all calm & such, I wouldn't be able to even talk coherently for DAYS, maybe WEEKS if that happened to MY son...

These peeps just don't care...that's what it seems like to me, just like NeoCons can claim collateral damage & acceptable losses when thousands die for the 'cause'.

You liberals are the fucking idiots. You assume to know that this family is unfeeling about the death of their child because they don't subscribe to your anti-gun views. I for one don't want to live in your antiseptically "safe" world were every conceivable thing that can hurt you is banned for our own good. There's 6+ billion people on this earth and you choose to obsess on one tragic death because it fits you preconception of what's wrong with the world. Accidents happen and many of them are preventable, but I don't remember any of you posting an article about the hundreds of kids killed and hurt each year because irresponsible parents don't put their kids in car seats. That's right, as far as you're concerned cracked out parents that leave their kids to fend for themselves are victims of society but a parent who tries to teach his kid to safely fire a gun is an evil monster. If the child had been yanked out of the womb at eight months and flushed down the toilet by an unloving crack whore you'd be defending her right to do so to the end.

Second- that's bulls**t nonsense. I assume this father is unfeeling because he 'has no regrets' about acting like a gorram idiot, and GETTING his son killed.

Third, how is wanting kids whose balls haven't even dropped yet not to be exposed to loaded military weapons for fun fit your definition of 'every conceivable thing that can hurt you'? Oh, I forgot, ...DUMASS!

I'm pointing to it to make a point, I'm sorry, I guess YOU never use an event or situation to underscore a feeling you have about something, Kirk. I should follow you lead, I guess. Oh, I forgot again,... DUMASS!!

Especially handing your kid the instrument of his own DEATH, right?

That's a different level of child endangerment, one that I would be in favour of prosecuting should you care to point out an incident.

Um...no, cracked out parents that leave their kids to fend for themselves are monsters, just like a parent who tries to teach his kid to safely fire a gun that can't in any way be controlled by such a young & small person.

Thanks for not resorting to demonizing those whose viewpoints you oppose while you try to point out the ludicrousness of them demonizing those whose viewpoints they oppose...

Tell me, where did you see this story reported? The one about the unloving crack whore ripping her eight-month-old out of the womb and flushing it down the toilet? I hadn't seen that news story, much less anyone on any side defending her right to do so.

On the other hand, the 8-year-old kid with the Uzi IS actually a factual story, in that it actually happened.

For the record, I'm both a gun enthusiast AND a social liberal, and I have a problem with an 8-year-old kid being handed a full-auto Uzi machine pistol. I don't have a problem with teaching kids about guns, gun safety, and how to safely handle and shoot firearms, but they need to work their way up. Start 'em on BB guns, work into a .22 rifle, etc.

Damn sad indeed - but remember, Chris...

In our society children are non-human, non-persons, with less rights and status than livestock, something I have pointed out, and railed about, time and time again, without ever seeming to get it across.

With that in mind, the way they're acting, see...

It's not like a human died, or a person was killed, just some piece of property rated little higher than a housepet, oh well, things happen and all that.

And I do, and always have, taken that whole attitude as so profoundly offensive that I've invested a great deal of my own life to changing it, because once you relegate SOME humans to the non-person category, it just gets easier and easier to broaden it, see ?

People of another color, people of another belief, people who believe different things politically... just add them to the non-person category, since it's already there in the first place with an open door, and even you, strong as your own humanity is, have started to file the NeoCons there, haven't you ?

See how EASY that is, how slippery that slope becomes once the slope is in place to begin with ?

People do not by nature use violence against other people - first they must dehumanise them, reduce them mentally to non-person status, often even down to non-human, that's how racism works, how sexism works, and all the rest of the whole litany of hate, intolerance and meanness.

And sick as our society is, we start with our kids, mostly because they're born with their humanity intact and see our society for the vile thing it really is until we crush that out of them, something we couldn't do, would be UNABLE to do, if we regarded them as people.

So, no, this doesn't surprise me a damn bit, nor does the fact he probably will not face charges or that he's displaying the socially-approved attitude about it.

Really, it's not like a PERSON was killed, you know....

Crack whores and Alaskan Mothers running for office aside, this is a tragedy that none but parents could understand.

I could not imagine losing my son because I put him in harm's way...no matter what the instrument. Accidents do happen...some just waiting to happen.

Who knew that an 8 year-old child couldn't shoot an Uzi in the proper manner. His parents trained him properly and excercised their God-given right to shoot and blow things up real good.

But the bigger question is what right does anyone, other than his parents, have to judge his right to live a ripe full life. And that ripe full life should include the right to shoot a gun whenever and wherever he so chooses. After all he is an American.

No one should have that right to question one's choice to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, which in this case is a warm Uzi.
Absolutely no one.

Shiny! Let's be bad guys!
