Yeah, nice of him and Bush to try to take credit for the new GI Bill, too - despite the fact that they both fought tooth and nail AGAINST giving benefits to the troops that they "support".
I guess "support our troops" means something darkly different to Rethuglicans.

Then again, Gen. Clark should have had more sense than to come up with the “Well, I don’t think riding in a fighter plane and getting shot down is a qualification to be president.” remark. Even if true, it sounds mean-spirited, and almost as if being shot down disqualifies McCain. There's no way the media weren't going to be all over him.

heh, I don't totally disagree with you Geezer,
and when I heard it out of context I thought Clark had put his foot in it even if he was being candid as a war veteran himself.
In context he merely repeated what the interviewer just said to him and then said that getting shot down doesn't qualify you to be President. So in context, it wasn't the way he was trying to frame the argument, but that is the way that it and he got framed by the media.

Most Americans would say McCain is due every bit and more of the kidd gloves Kerry was given for his service. If Weasel Clark can praise Kerry for seeing action, then he sure as hell better do the same for McCain, or simply shut the hell up.

But he did praise him. Repeatedly. Just like Obama has. Saying that being shot down and taken captive doesn't prepare one for executive office is in no way belittling McCain's service, even if the media wants people to think that. It's just stating an obvious fact that a lot of people don't seem to grasp.
