He belittled McCain by stating he was " riding along" like he was some hapless member of an wayward Oceanic flight. It's the same as if Kerry simply " gathered up" 3 Purple Hearts, and that some how makes him a shoe in for Presidency. No one ever suggested that nonsense, but what Weasel has done was OVER state the obvious so as to obscure the fact that Obama never served, and that standing next to a bona fide war hero like McCain, impressions may be swayed.

No, he said "riding in", and he said it like that because that's how Bob Schieffer phrased it. Listen to the first half minute of the video, then you'll hear what Clark actually said, not what the media told you he said.
Plus he didn't OVERstate the obvious. As it was, it was a simple statement of fact, I can't think of a clearer way of saying it. Also, that what he said is obvious is unfortunately not a given, otherwise McCain wouldn't be referring to his POW experience every chance he gets (and claiming he hates talking about it and doesn't want to use it for political purposes - lol, yeah right).

Dunno which planet you've been on , but to accuse McCain of bringing up his POW experience every chance he gets is beyond hyperbole. He RARELY ever brings it up, unlike Kerry, who brought up his 'Nam service at a drop of a hat.

I certainly appreciate the sacrifice of anyone who's had to go through it, but I don't think being tortured as a prisoner of war is a 'qualification' for political office. It's kind of like saying someone who was beat as a child would be a great grade school principal. If anything, it's a negative.
Let's face it, torture is a damaging experience. It leaves permanent scars on the psyche of anyone unfortunate enough to go through it. I'd honestly be a little uneasy giving the reigns to someone who's experienced such trauma.
I'm not saying that the fact that McCain was a prisoner of war disqualifies him by any means, but I have a hard time seeing it as net positive. Sure, give him his just respect and appreciation. I just don't think it's a good reason to elect a leader.

Serving in the military, or not, shouldn't be an issue for political office one way or the other. I don't think a single member of our cabinet has served, but even if they have the fact I don't know shows it's not an issue here I think.
The fact that it does seem to be an issue worthy of discussion in the States would be, for me at least, a worrying sign of militarism.

While I don't watch all of the speeches etc, the only times I have seen McCain bring up the POW / Torture experiences, it was while he was being critical of the current admins policy's on the same subject.
On those points I think it is a net positive to have a voice of reason who has been on the other end of the bullshit, just to try to bring some of the coke snortin asshole wanta cowboys back to reality.
