Recently discovered records indicate that, after the 2008 Clinton/Obama election, the USA ended the so-called "War on Terror" and provided nuclear technology to the peace-loving people of Iran and other Middle-eastern countries in exchange for their promise to quit exporting greenhouse-gas-causing oil.
The 2016 nuclear exchange between Greater Persia and Israel was quickly followed by the backpack nuke Jihads in Europe, Japan, and Southeast Asia (ever notice how there's not too many folk not speaking English or Chinese in the FF world?). The resulting nuclear winter quickly used up stocks of fossil fuel. South America reverted to banana republics squabbling over the few remaining resources. Only the United States of North-American and Greater China (including Australia and New Zealand) maintained the ability to get off the planet.
Hey! It's just as logical as yours.

Hello,
I don't worry much about destroying the planet. All the humans will die long before we can render the world unsuitable for all life.
The cockroaches will inherit, the fungi will survive, and a million years after the human race is gone, the planet will again be a lush green Oasis.

Quote:Frankly, I’m more worried about the planet destroying us. I think there is a certain degree of arrogance in the global warming doomsday camp. Much like the those who refused to believe that the Earth wasn’t the center of the universe, some people can’t grasp the idea that we just simply might not be in any condition to dictate what the planet does with regard to climate.

Personally, my guess is with regard to the climate that it won’t be global warming that gets us, but it might be global warming that makes us drop the ball. We might end up being so preoccupied worrying about a warming climate that we won’t prepare for the inevitable cooling that historically seems to have followed warming trends, usually with drastically negative impact on civilization.

The millenium bug didn't case any problems, because we fixed it before the year 2000. If we hadn't done anything, there would have been problems, we did and they didn't occur. To say there was no problem because we fixed it before it occured, is simply idiotic.

Why do you feel the need to respond, is what I find curious.
There were 2 things happening w/ y2k at the same time. You're right, that most of the computer issues were taken care of, with no small amount of work before hand to make sure all would run smoothly. Taking a proactive position unquestionably was needed for many key industries. Which is why I never felt there would be a problem. Those who had it in their best interest to make sure y2k wouldn't screw w/ their livelihood did what they needed to do. That part is understandable.
But the nut jobs, the whackos who thought Clinton was building concentration camps, claimed they had SEEN thsoe camps being built, and claimed that he'd use y2k as an excuse to usher in martial law, it's those kooks who I'm comparing the mass hysteria we see about global warming...THAT is how I see so many reacting to this 'climate change' fraud.
y2k came and went, and save for a very few minor issues, the world kept moving forward. All was well. The earth will go through its changes, warming / cooling, dryer / wetter, etc... there's nothing we can do to change that. Nor should we even try.

Quote:Because you seem to be implying that there was no problem with the 2000 Bug, when there clearly was that we avoided through action. Given that you're comparing it to global warming which you say isn't a problem and we shouldn't do anything about, seems to be the reasonable interpretation. In fact there is another comparison, many people said they didn't believe there could be a problem, largely because they never understood the proposed issue, and said nothing needed to be done. Just like global warming:

The problems with arguments against global warming, is that they revolve near exclusively around a denile, rather than a refutation of the science of global warming. Big things are made of the Earth being warmer in the past, but that doesn't refute that man is involved, it shows that the Earth can warm naturally, it doesn't prove the Earth is warming naturally this time. It's perfectly possible that global warming today is caused, or greatly exacerbated which is just as bad, by man and still be natural in the past.
