Quote:How is it in any way a " reasonable interpretation " when I specifically noted that a great amount of work HAD been done to avoid problems ? It's no secret that companies spent 1000's of hours working on the Y2K bug in order to keep their systems and their business running smooth. I made that perfectly clear! Talk about denial, you see ONLY what you want to see, and this example only makes my case more valid.
Because you seem to be implying that there was no problem with the 2000 Bug, when there clearly was that we avoided through action. Given that you're comparing it to global warming which you say isn't a problem and we shouldn't do anything about, seems to be the reasonable interpretation.
You dismiss the science where it threatends to disrupt your template. Sun activity goes up? Not a cause of global warming. Polar caps on Mars melt ? Nope, gotta be something else. Polar Bears threatened with extinction? Sorry, their population remains constant or has actually climbed around the world. And then you talk about denial ? Too gorram funny.
There were religious whackos ( Christian fundies ) who believed Y2K would usher in the return of Jesus. WHy? It was fortold in The Bible, that's why. Folks were told to look for 'earth pangs', meannig more hurricanes, more earthquakes, etc.... and that's exactly what they saw. They weren't paying attention to these things before, even though they were always occuring, but NOW, it was far more important because Jesus was coming back. How did they know ? The Bible said so, and the Bible can't be wrong. Word of God, ya know.
Only, there's one small problem. These things, quakes and hurricanes, HAD been happening all along. Sometimes more, sometimes less, but always happening. Fact is, the number major quakes had been stable for the past several decades, or in the decline. Oh, but the Bible thumpers had seen it on the news! It's been reported, and you can't deny that! Um...yeah, I could. Just looking at the records of the USGS and looking at the data. Still, I had folks tell me that news reporters knew MORE about earth quakes than the USGS!! Why? Because they REPORTED on it , and they saw the reports on t.v.!

Same thing is happening w/ global warming/ climate change. Back in '05, folks were told that Katrina was a product of "global warming" , and we should expext more hurricanes, stronger hurricanes and more to hit the US than ever before.
2 yrs later, where the fuck are the hurricanes ? No where. If a warmer climate was to cause more storms, where were they ? Seems folks don't know as much about the weather as we were led to believe.
John Coleman is right.

It is not those who use the term "Islamo-Fascism" who are sullying the name of Islam; it is the Islamo-Fascists. - Dennis Prager

I don't consider myself well-educated enough to enter the global warming debate. But I would just like to point out that a view's being the majority opinion does not entail that the belief is true. (That, of course, is why evidence and argument is so important.)

Quote:Because you didn't do that until AFTER I responded, and I don't own a crystal ball. I was explaining why I interpreted your initial post the way I did.

Quote:Stop ranting and show me the science and I'll listen, I haven't ignored anything because you haven't provided anything. What I've seen indicates a net DROP in sun activity over the last few decades.
You dismiss the science where it threatends to disrupt your template. Sun activity goes up? Not a cause of global warming.
Quote:Actually only the southern polar cap is receding, which eloquently proves the confirmation bias. If one is receding, and one is expanding it's reasonable to say the global net temperatures on Mars aren't changing. Or we can stop at "the southern cap is receding" and assume the northern one is as well because that confirms what we want to hear.
Polar caps on Mars melt ? Nope, gotta be something else.
Quote:Do you have a cite for this?
Polar Bears threatened with extinction? Sorry, their population remains constant or has actually climbed around the world. And then you talk about denial ?
Quote:Which says nothing about global warming or it's proponents. Which was one of the points I made in the last post, thanks for parroting back to me what I said previously.

Quote:Really not. Saying "Same thing" doesn't prove a link.
Same thing is happening w/ global warming/ climate change.
Quote:The exact same reasoning would say: “6 years later, no new Al Qaeda attacks in the US, guess that proves there's nothing too it”. It's flawed reasoning.

The bear population is moving in response to the shrinking environment...it's natural that a concentration in new areas would be seen as their numbers going up by the casual observer.

Sorry 'bout that, then. Consider it a general purpose comment then. Let us not (any of us) commit an argumentum ad populum fallacy.
