I'd say it's actually a culmination of strategical, operational and tactical. In that essence, it's a book on the grand strategy of romance, that is to say, it outlines the grand strategies of sexual conquest, short-term flings, and long-term relationships.
These being the grand strategies, it goes on to detail the points of lesser/operational strategy:
Identifying potential targets by body type and/or mentality, depending on your grand strategy.
Reconnoiter, standard S.A.L.U.T.E. format. A couple of these could reveal strategic gold; a pattern.
Target acquisition, make a final decision. Next two phases are optional and require discernment,
Scope potential allies to gather intelligence and aid you in the Operational phase (friends, family). Consider employment of spies. Match personal observations to background intelligence.
Of course, all of this could take anywhere from a long damn time to a couple of seconds, depending on your grand strategy.
You move on to the Operations, put yourself in the right place at the right time with the right equipment (dress, cologne, hair, money), maybe more than once. Utilize any beneficial allied relations, if there are any. Perform multiple engagements if necessary, but refrain from protracted warfare.
Tactical strategy: know where to look (Eyes, not chest), how to act (Stop fidgeting!), and what to say beforehand ("Nice dress", not "nice rack"). Battle gaming (practicing) is not ill-advised.
Tactics, employment of tactical strategy, and ability to re-act to the unexpected (Oh, you already have a boyfriend? Oh, you want to go out right now? Oh, you're a trans-sexual?) intelligently and with as little incident as possible. Knowing when, where and how to break contact.

Damn, son, you sound like you should have the enemy crawling all over you. I don't get it. Basic problem must target acquisition, that is, finding the worthy opponent rather than a bunch of expendable cannon fodder.
Didn't realize how deep the Sutra got into the strategies that much--never got past the pictures myself--but, not having a whit of military knowledge, the operational aspect espcaped me entirely. Yet it all seems viable when put like that, doesn't it? Who's your favorite Firefly female character? I asking because what might seem obvious isn't always.

In my gut I completely agree that as long as the thoughts don't become reality, all is well. Just some "harmless" internal venting. But not eveyone has the ability to draw the line so clearly between what's in my mind and what outside. I guess it's the now and then quality as opposed to the obsession that I'm referring to. The vengence angle of Columbine comes to mind as one example and of course all the subsequent incidents.
My second example is the one that prompted my disclaimer. How far removed is the pornography addict from the rapist? How many serial killers had seriously messed up sex thoughts before acting out their fantasies and then their meticulously planned murders?

Actually, CMH and myself are pretty much the same age. But I never thought that the tactics were interchangeable. Needless to say, they are the same. But I guess thats what happens to those of us who are just shooters. No need to make decisions, just shoot.
I always liked outwardly strong and elegant women. But they all seem fitting in Happy Land. Well, except for maybe YoSafBridge. I ain't one to strike a woman, but there are always exceptions to the rule. She might be it.

Before you guys get all up in praises about the breakdown of things, let me just say, I've never put any of it in to practice. In all likelihood, I'd probably fail, because I lack the most vital equipment: looks. It'd be like engaging in battle without a weapon. I've memorized a good deal of romantic poetry and other crap... hmm, you might even compare me to Cyrano de Bergerac in that regard, or you could just call me an Armchair Romantic. But I hear people giving advice on relationships emphasize lots of individual parts all the time. Like true strategy, I'm just guessing success relies more on proper employment of everything.
I actually picked out an unillustrated version of the kama-sutra, very specifically, to avoid those pictures. Also skipped the section on sexual positions. That's a little too "tactical" for me. But yes, the book suggests you to have a clear idea of what you want before you begin looking, and then what to look for based on what you want. After that, it spider webs down into different paths. You don't take the time to get to know relatives and friends of a person you're just trying to get in to bed. Likewise, you don't act overly intimate with a potential wife/long term companion. It also give several different body types for men and women, suggesting what's compatible and what's not, and the same with personalities.
It's a very in depth book, but I trailed off once it got into foreplay techniques.
Anyways, JQ, my favorite female character is River without a doubt. I got a knot in my throat the first time I saw her, and I can recall the exact place and circumstances. I don't know what it is... but my past two girlfriends were bat-shit insane, and I seem to be attracted to that for some reason.
