I've also heard the Spike thing was a wash-out; however, there is still hope for a Giles spin-off called "Ripper".

There were a lot of wishy-washy execs not being able to make a decision with the financing or the format (tv movie, direct to DVD miniseries, etc). Also, James Marsters says that he would never go back to Spike once he hits 45 and he's 44 now...so the deadline is pretty much over.
