As always, I see our more left leaning members just cannot seem to follow the "rules of the thread". As a Canadian, I am not as knowledgeable about American politics as other members here, but I am willing to join the discussion. IMHO, Government is reactionary. A problem arises and it is the Government's job to find a solution to the problem and take steps to ensure the problem does not happen anew. So maybe the question should be what has Bush failed to do.

But not meaning to hijack the thread, I will give some examples.

The security of the nation has improved under Bush(reaction to 9/11).
The re-organization of FEMA under Bush (reaction to Katrina).
Begining to address borders and immigration policies (reaction to illegal immigration).

There are more which I am sure will come to light in the firestorm of discussion which will follow this post.

De-lurking to stir stuff up.

He's made us realise that the presidential ellection is a total con, that if your Papi's a president, you can be to! That Americans will kill 200,000 of your population if you share the religion of a country that killed 3,600 of them! That if you're poor, noone gives a shit! That a small ex-empirical island with dellusions of grandeur off the coast of Europe gives great head! And that Israelis are well worth killing more worthless Arabs over! Actually, Bush's reaction to Katrina was that 'nobody could have seen this coming' and that 'Brownie' was doing a heck of a job. For that matter, 'brownie' and FEMA had made it quite clear to Bush how catastrophic this thing might be, but the Administration took no action. Where was Bush during Katrina again?

It's not apt to say that because something has improved during the Administration, it is because of the administration. The Katrina disaster was sooo bad that the Administration needed a bit of a fall-guy for their own incompitence.

Also, I'd like to know what proof of improvement there actually is. Since you posted, maybe you could direct me to it.

Yeah the border thing...whatever - tell me exactly what that is going to do again?

When he targets a big agricultural giant with fines, or a supersore like Walmart, etc.(not just slap on the wrist fines either), then I'll believe he's doing something about immigration.

How has security under Bush improved? By the Pentagon's admission he has created more terrorists than ever.

What evidence do you have that it has improved and that government powers are being used appropriately? We've convicted like 6 or 7 people(correct me if I'm wrong) many of which on 'material support' charges because they were in the wrong place at the wrong time, not because they were sleeper cells or actual terrorists, but because they may have been sympathizers. American Citizens are being spied on and the government is giving us less and less opportunity for oversight.

If you're going to tell me that's for the good, then you aren't really thinking it through. If we have to take our government's word for their own benevolence, than we have truly given up democracy already.

This administration is out of control with its classifying of shit.
It does something illegal, somebody tells the people, and then it saysthat person compromised national security. That's nonsense of course...

or if you disagree, tell me how knowing about prisons abroad actually hurts national security? How does it compromise their effectiveness if they are legit? How does it benefit terrorists to know they exist?
