I don't buy into the hysteria. You do. This 'saving the world ' business really does pull at one's heart strings, but it's a bunch of hooey, imo.

( And I happen to be looking at the planet from the view point of millions of yrs, not a 50-100 yr snap shot )

Cheers.

This is very frustrating! I can see that you are the type of person who dismisses anything you don't agree with without bothering to actually consider the opposite point of view. There are an awful lot of scientific findings to back up this 'hysteria'. Just take a look at how fast the poles are melting.

You are quite right that the planet will still be there in a million years but personally I am more concerned with how there will be a 4 degree temperature increase in the next 50-100 years that will cause vast climate shifts and sea level rises, since that is the period in which I'll be living and I happen to live on an island!

But you're right. The droughts and flooding will primarily affect the third world (they're half a world away and poor!) and the species that are already becoming extinct are just animals, who needs them?

Sorry for the bitter rant but I really do wish that I could get everyone to care about this as much as I do. It might actually make a difference.

Oh, but when I was younger and far more naive, I did buy into this whole 'save the planet' stuff. I donated to Greenpeace. Save the cute, fluffy baby seals, and such. And we can agree that breathing clean air is prefereable to dirty air. Same goes for drinking clean water. But there is a sinister campaign going on here that's using the general publics lack of knowledge on global weather cycles , as well as the oscillation of the sun's radiant energy over time, that has more to do w/ politics than the enviroment.

Droughts and flooding have been w/ the planet long before man kind even evolved. Volcanos errupt and spew more greenhouse gases than the entire history of the United Staes, of all humanity combined, and you think we can do something about global warming ??

People love a happy ending. So every episode, I will explain once again that I don't like people. And then Mal will shoot someone. Someone we like. And their puppy. - Joss

I've seen some wild claims before. That's the first time I've seen one like that.

That's 12 degrees on AVERAGE? In 100 yrs?

I'm not buying it, sorry.

You suggest I should see a psychatrist

Why shouldn't I say things like that? You told me all I do is 'live on the net' based on a single coincidence where I happened to be checking e-mails while you made a post. I’m just giving back to you what you dish out, don’t like it, stop doing it to other people. My god daughter is three years old and she’s learnt that, why do you have so much trouble with it.

You do far more of this sort of thing than me or anyone else here save PirateNews, so you have absolutely no right to accuse anyone (save PirateNews) of vitriol.

Neo Nazi sites? I might have been to one, just to see how disturbed and sad those folks are. But leave it to you to take the broad swipe and accuse me of being racists. It's all you've got.
Oh I've got plenty on you. I realise you've got some semblance of morals, I know you're not a monster, which is, getting back to vitriol a far more generous statement than you've ever sent my way. That's why you don't like the racist charge, but when you make comments like "all Muslims are terrorists!" that's a racist comment (or religosist, which is pretty much the same thing, if you wish to split hairs), and you make them all the time.

There was some irate woman on the news the other week, she was going to vote BNP (British Nazi National Party), why? And I quote:
"I'm not a racist, but it's all because of the blacks, they're the ones to blame!"

While your blaming Muslims or Illegal immigrants or whoever for all the problems of the world, and judging all of them on the actions of a few, while saying "I'm not a racist!" you sound just like her.

I hope that if I keep pointing it out you'll actually look at your comments and eventually wake up, or you'll carry on thinking the only reason I say it is because I have a deep felt need to insult you. Unfortunatly given your track record the latter is far more likely.

Funny how YOU describe me as how YOU really are. Maybe that's your own psych's speak coming out in you again. How long has it been since your last session?
Funny how you can't insult me at all, all you can do is copy paste what I've said to you, like I said you can't think for yourself. Very sad.

Well look AU, someone’s summed you up within a few moments of speaking to you. This is your que to slip away to convince yourself it really is everyone else’s problem.

More insane ramblings by the people who brought you beeeer milkshakes!
And as you know, these are open forums, you're able to come and listen to what I have to say.

Sorry RM, don't think he is interested in facts.

and thanks Emma for standing up for us... great points...

AUr, u claim not to be interested in 'trashy tv' yet u focus on the political "soap opera" who got was drunk driving this week. actors, politicians, and sports figures get breaks.... a tiny speck on the landscape of issues.

You trust scientists to develop drugs to make you feel better and but not the ones that warn of GW. That is why hundreds of scientists have gone to freeze their ass off at the poles to do studies. They wake up in the morning, (just like the ones who created the internet, traffic lights, and the polio vaccine) "OK, how can I freak out the US public today"

So what is hysteria:
our politicians are all drunks,
can Terry Shiavo die..
scan every citizen to make sure they are not a terrorist...
notice how the color coded terrorist alerts faded after the election..
So easy to see how a small (by excluding most of its members input) political camp can get hysteria started… find it hard to believe many scientists from all over, who do not all regularly convene, can start a worldwide panic. (some yes, all no)

…and I am afraid third world countries will not be the only affected by the warming... I live on the NC coast (so lemme guess, move, our country’s roots are only here) and had to actually live through these 'canes... I know it has changed in my lifetime. So, rather than just bitching I am actually trying to promote fuel alternatives in my area. We’ll never get action from the top on this.

So, one of the reasons we all developed many societies of the past in northernly, colder climates, (or most likely these groups succeeded unknowingly) we didn't have power to fight the diseases that grow in hot, humid climates... well the ability of diseases to flourish naturally in the environment is coming sooner than we think… we count on our scientists to fight those don’t we... will that be hysteria?

tell me the admission price to your fantasy world, i might be better off.

and BTW,

PINATUBO (1991) -- Mt. Pinatubo erupted in the Philippines on June 15, 1991, and one month later Mt. Hudson in southern Chile also erupted. The Pinatubo eruption produced the largest sulfur oxide cloud this century. The combined aerosol plume of Mt. Pinatubo and Mt. Hudson diffused around the globe in a matter of months. The data collected after these eruptions show that mean world temperatures decreased by about 1 degree Centigrade over the subsequent two years. This cooling effect was welcomed by many scientists who saw it as a counter-balance to global warming.

I think "AU" is an interesting choice for the beginning of a name (considering that 'AU' is a fairly common acronym for 'Alternate Universe') . Though it would explain a lot of his viewpoints...

It also is the common abbreviation for 'Australia', Auburn University, Astronomical Unit, and is the symbol for GOLD on the periodic table. But Alternate Universe is a new one.

So, you think that me correctly pointing out that the 'coincidence' of you taking 2 minutes to respond to one of my post and jokingly saying you must 'live on the internet' equates to you calling ME a racist?

But I do like how you've distorted the whole muslim issue WAY out of context. Yes, I did say muslims should speak out more against the violence of their terrorist nut case bretheren. Are you going to say you're ok w/ their virtual silence? But you'd rather focus on ME and what I've stated ( true as it is ) instead of dealing w/ the bigger problem. I find that damn curious. But how you draw a conclusion that I'm some how a racist only shows to me that you've got nothing else to use in your arsenal toward me, so you break out the 'racism' card. And did ya ever think that folks might not like being called racist because they aren't, in fact, racist ? Advanced idea , for you, I'm guessing.

And how am I suppose to defend MYSELF over something you saw last week, regarding what some lady in England said??? You accuse me with HER damn words! How fucking lame is THAT ? You can't support YOUR claims toward me, so you use some lady 1000's of miles away, from some political party I've never even HEARD of, and you think that somehow justifies you baseless charges levied against me?

If ever you wish to step out into the real world and have a fact based discussion, let me know. Until then, I'll let you wallow in your fantasy world of your own mind.
