So, I was watching Buffy while eating breakfast the other morning (seen them all a few times) and I had a thought:

I wonder how many concussions Giles received during Buffy? By my calculation it's amazing that he remembered anything. Xander is up there, but no one compares with Giles and spending tie unconscious.

There used to be a website that counted every instance of Giles getting knocked unconscious, but it doesn't seem to be around anymore.

In the first episode of season 5 they make it into a instory joke about him always being unconscous.

I was never unconscious, I was 'pretending', in order to let the Scoobies attend to their work. Out of the nest and all that.

I'm convinced that he never had the last five pages of any script. His last page read something like this:

Giles: Buffy watch out! (Falls unconscious from a blow to the head.)

Skip pages 25-30.

Giles: (Wakes hours later.) Is everyone alright?

Actually the first instory reference to Giles being knocked out so much was in Gingerbread, with Cordy's infamous line "How many times have you been knocked out anyway? One of these times you're going to wake up in a coma." And legend has it this line was in direct response to all the comments regarding Giles' knock outs on the Original buffy message board that Joss read regularly. There have actually been many references in the show that grew out of message board commentary.

One of the last I can remember is in Episode 6, when M'Fashnick (?) knocks him out and the next morning he makes the comment about knowing he's back in Sunnydale because of it.
