Misunderstood moments in the series or movie

I imagine it has something to do with the fact that he gave up his whole life to protect her. It would seem like quite a waste if she got pinched or killed due to her participation in some petty theivery. Not to mention that Mal has devolved into more of a jerk since Inara and Book left, regardless of the exact timeframe.

I highly recommend reading the Serenity book with the original screenplay and maybe the new one too. I gives a lot of meaning to things and what they are all thinking and not just saying. I thoughly enjoyed this book and would read again in an instant as soon as it is returned to me.

1. When I first saw that I wasn't sure what to make of it with Jayne getting cut with the knife.

2. I believe that Wash is talking about Mal, at first I thought it to be himself like someone else said, but that didn't make sense to me really.

3. I don't think that she gave him a psycic nudge, I think that she sensed him as her senses have been hightened because of the tests done on her. I believe that Jayne just wanted to get rid of her for whatever his reasons are. I think its more than just her being crazy and so on.

In Ariel, I don't think there's any reason to choose between those two interpretations. It's entirely possible that she slashed him because he was going to betray them, but she slashed him where and when she did because seeing the logo on the shirt triggered.

I did notice the logo in that scene on my own when nobody else I knew did, and I felt pretty good about that.

Took me a bit to get the line in War Stories, but I agree that he's talking about Mal.

I remain unsure about what Jayne means when he says they're going to go for a nice shuttle ride. Presumably he's talking about taking her and turning her in? That seems unusually stupid and greedy, even for him, but I can easily see how recent events might have pushed him over the edge where she's concerned.

As for misunderstandings, the first time I saw the movie, I misheard Mal's line to Inara, "You fog things up!" as "You f*** things up!" I was totally and completely shocked by that, shared that shock, and was completely shot down. On further review, it IS "fog," but I still mishear it sometimes.

I managed to understand most of them (though noticing the blue sun logos didn't happend til the second of so viewings)

my biggest misunderstanding was at the start of the movie, just after the 'oh god, oh god, we're all going to die line' where Mal comes out of the bridge, and spots Jayne with all his hardware, tells him that he can't take the grenades, then walks off past Zoe and says to her 'talk to your husband' she turns to Jayne and says something like 'we're just robbing the place, not occupying'.

Now a little latter in the movie, Zoe and Wash are snuggling.

So, not having seen Firefly before this (i'd heard of it, and was waiting for my dvd rental place to deliver it) my first (alarmed) thought was
'oh my god! she cheating on the guy with the gun fetish? Right out in the open, under his nose, on the same ship? with the ginger bloke? Random woman.

Imagine the giggle when I saw the movie again recently having got to know the characters... how in hells name could I ever think that Zoe would marry Jayne... How in hells name could I think anybody would marry Jayne...

* To Jayne's fans, please don't hurt me! I love Jayne, fine figure of a man, first choice for, ah, recreational purposes, and no-strings friendships, but can you see any woman willingly playing second fiddle to Vera?

I also loved the torture scene and how crude Mal was when trying to keep Wash from slipping away. I also loved when Zoe comes in and has absolutely no hesitation when she chooses Wash over Mal. And then Wash talking about how crazy Mal is, and how he wouldn't give up. Great episode.

If you read 'Finding Serenity', theres a great chapter about their relationship and that show. As in my other thread, I suggest reading it. It'll be a 17 bucks well spent.

Here's a possible new one;

In the BDM, when Jayne has the gall to ask Mal how many, aside from Zoe, came back from the Battle of Serenity, Zoe says,

"you're gonna want to walk out of this room now"

I figured she was warning him about Mal going to kick his butt. After the third viewing, I'm pretty sure she's warning him that SHE is the one getting ready to kick his butt.

Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal!

THANK GOD!!!! That knife thing in ariel was making me so mad! see I love river she is my favourite character, so I wanted to understand EVERYTHING about her, and that totally messed with me. but thank-you now maybe I can get some sleep, haha I do love the whole "Blue sun" thing, I find it very cool the way Joss adds his little details, which gives us a little something more to look for

The Three Full Mags & My Swingin' Cod line in the movie is still bugging me. I SWEAR up down and blue-sidewise that's what Jayne says, not "Three, four, max and my swingin' cod." Three-four *WHAT* max??? Rounds? No, 'cause he rips off three rounds after that. Mags, full cartridges, makes more sense.

Firefly is a sharp show, with sharp writing. The double meanings are everywhere. I think if they weren't, I'd have gotten bored long ago!

I'd marry Jayne. Hell, he'd treat me okay.

Zoe asks him how much ammo he's got left. He says, "3 full mags, and my swinging cod" (plus whatever people have in their current clips). That's how I'm hearing it anyways; maybe watch it on subtitles or somethin.
