Iowa Browncoats?

I am in Cedar Rapids and I know of several fans from Rockwell Collins and my old employer Quintrex that will be trying to find the first showing Friday afternoon. (I'd like to get my time in by noon so I don't have to go back to work if I can.)
But as of Friday there didn't seem to be any tickets to be had online.
Now I need to find a brown jacket and a button saying "It was on sale..." :-)

I'm willing to try out the Galaxy's first matinee on opening day. How much bigger is its screens compared to Carmike's?
Carmike's is much closer, and avoids that somewhat hairy run thru Reaver-SUV clogged downtown, so is more optimal for us southerners from Iowa City and farther, like Cap'n Embers. On the other hand, if there's a significant screen size diff, I'll try it, seein' as how my adrenaline will already be pumped up, so the Reaver run won't make as much of a difference. 
Eriu, what do you teach? I feel much better disposed towards well mannered high schoolers, than some of the louts who go to U of I (no offense to any Browncoat UI student - you, of all people, know what I mean).
A few years ago, I was sifting thru resumes for a summer intern position, and we all wanted to adopt the one high schooler in the bunch. At the opposite end of the spectrum was a freshly printed PhD who assured us he was a C programming "guru", yet somehow failed to list any supporting projects, other than one 3 month summer job - he didn't even tell us what his thesis topic was! We weren't sure how smart he was, but he was certainly weak. The high schooler was humble, intensely geeky, and listed all sorts of nifty little extra curricular programming projects he had initiated or joined.

The Carmike is closer, but the Century has WAY comfier seats, and it's right off the interstate. There's almost no way to get lost, and there are hotels right there for the folk who might want to spend the night and need a room.
I teach high school English, specifically some middle level writing and Valley's AP Literature class. At the end of last year, after the seniors had graduated and I ran out of curriculum-relevant things for my juniors to do, I showed them four episodes of Firefly. Got many of them hooked, and there has been a ripple effect. The students who would be there would of course be the intelligent geeky types, cuz that's who Firefly attracts. However I must admit that some of them are also at time obnoxious, but since I'd know them, I could help keep them in line, if necessary. Basically though we're talking about the good, but geeky, apples. The unfortunate thing is that Serenity's opening weekend is also Valley's Homecoming weekend, though I don't know how many Firefly fans would miss the opening night of Serenity for just a football game. I know I wouldn't.
I plan on using "Bushwacked" in conjunction with teaching Heart of Darkness this year, since the themes are similar but Firefly makes it so much more accessible.

I've been emailing back and forth with the Weherenberg corporate office trying to get a midnight showing in the area and it turns out that the Galaxy theater won't even be showing the movie. The Wynnsong should have it and one theater in IC/Coralville should have it (don't know which one) but the Galaxy is out.

I've always gone up to the Sycamore 6
or the Coral Ridge 10

I'm getting the feeling that we're talking about theaters in two different cities. Where's the Galaxy? The Wynnsong is a theater in the Des Moines area, but I've no idea where the Galaxy is, and I even lived in Iowa City for 8 years.
The Century theater is now displaying a poster advertisement for Serenity just outside the theater entrance, so it would seem unlikely that they won't be showing it. In fact, almost every wide release movie plays at the Century, simply because they've got so many screens. There has not been a movie I've wanted to see since the Century opened at Jordan Creek that was not playing there, unless it was an art house film, and Serenity ain't. But I have not called to confirm that.
The I-80 exit is for Jordan Creek Parkway, exit 121 according to Mapquest, turn South, go through approximately three stoplights, and on your left will be the mall. Can't miss it. Theater's on the south side.
My husband's Jayne hat came in the mail a couple days ago. Less than two weeks to wait!

yes, you are absolutely right..
we are talking about two different groups
one group is going to DesMoines
another group is going somewhere (as yet unspecified) in Cedar Rapids
I don't think we can expect everyone in Iowa to make it to the same theater
Myself I'll drive up to Cedar Rapids for the first Friday matinee
but after that I'll be attending in closer theaters in Ottumwa, Burlington, and even here in Fairfield
(we actually have a Serenity poster up in the lobby of the crappy little theater here in Fairfield!)

Just wanted to be clear about this...Century theater I keep talking about is in West Des Moines, not the Iowa City area.
I suspect that the IC area folks are not going to want to travel two hours to see a film they can see down the street, so I'd like to nip off any confusion.
