I live in Des Moines, and I imagine I'll go to Jordan Creek Century for the premiere, assuming they're playing it. High points of the theater include Fandango-enabled ticket-buying, the comfiest seats in town, stadium style layout, ice cream, and espresso.

I have a couple friends coming in from Iowa City, and the plan currently is to dress in costume. We'll see if that really happens. If nothing else, we'll be donning shirts or other paraphenelia.

My friends and I live in Pella, and it's highly unlikely we'll get Serenity opening night, so we'll be heading off to Des Moines as well. We just don't know which theatre yet.

We are hoping for a decent line party though, and we'll probably go to the theatre with the most people there (Jordan Creek).

Good to know there are Iowan Browncoats!

I've converted 7 here in Fairfield, Iowa...
but I've only forced one of them to join the Official board - and none of them have joined this board :(
BUT all of them will come with me to see Serenity on September 30th.
I'm guessing we'll go to Ottumwa or Iowa City,
but it depends on where it actually opens.

You know, it seems that since Fandango became more popular, line parties are becoming a lost breed. For instance, when I went to see the midnight showing of Revenge of the Sith, I had gotten tickets through Fandango for Jordan Creek, and then they let us in to our seats two or three hours ahead of time. There wasn't much chance of a line party (and maybe that's what they were going for).

Will Serenity get a midnight showing in Des Moines and elsewhere? Don't know. But I will be seeing it opening night, and again the next night, and again the next night. I'm not above artificially inflating opening weekend box-office haul.

I'm not even terribly familiar with Fandango. What is it?

The best part about line parties is camping out, meeting new people, and having pizza delivered to the line. Of course, once you're in your seats, I suppose you can still do the meeting-people thing. But it's not quite the same.

Unfortunately, a midnight showing is getting more and more unlikely for us, but we're definitely carpooling opening night.

It's a website where you can look up movie times and buy tickets in advance. You pay $1 per ticket more, but you can reserve your ticket well in advance (RotS tix could be purchased two weeks early), and you can just walk up to the ticket taker with a print-out and ID. It makes going on opening weekend a breeze, though you still have to get there early enough for good seats.

In some ways I think it's a great help to us older geeks, because we don't have to take off work to wait in line for tickets. But it does mean that the line is more and more obsolete. I too have enjoyed the line parties and getting pizza and making friends. I think seeing who comes out for Serenity will be especially fun. Will we see people we never thought were Flans? Will the word have passed far enough by that point to get a whole slew of folk out for the opening showings? I hope so.
