Iowa Browncoats?

I live in Des Moines and have several friends that are fans and are planning on attending the opening night. We want to celebrate somehow, but there are no solid plans yet. I am all for a line party if anyone is up for it. Jordan Creek works for us. Anyone know how the management there is towards such goings on?

they might love the idea if they saw it as free publicity, not just for our BDM but also for their theater...
a line of people in costumes, what can be bad with that?

LS, I think a planned line party would be keen. I don't know how the theater would feel about it. Since I teach at Valley High School, I'm almost sure to know students who work at the theater. I do know that the theater was friendly to the Star Wars goers, but that they didn't advertise activities in the same way Merle Hay Mall Cinema did, but then the MHM folks had to line up in a parking garage, and that doesn't sound like fun to me.

Embers, I think you're right that if it garners publicity, most theater owners are for it. However it may be seen as something that would drive the "normals" away to other screens. Perhaps that's part of the appeal of midnight showings--get all the costume-wearing weirdos out of the way so they don't become an embarrassment.

My wife and I are both die-hard Browncoats living in Ames. I've been toying with the idea of dressing up as Jayne for the BDON (Big Damn Opening Night) (OK, that was pretty lame). I abandoned the idea cause, well, alone sucks. I'm a largish man with goatee and Jayne hat, plus thigh holster and "Little Elves That Fight" shirt (would just need a large knife). So...anyone serious about a costumed line party?

My plans are to go as Kaylee with my hubby as Jayne. I'm growing my hair longer and everything, and Husband is staring the Jayne facial hair. I think our friend Andrew will come as Wash, since he is cursed with an overabundance of Hawaiian shirts, and my friend Danielle may be a second Kaylee or even River. Things aren't totally ironed out yet, but this is the rough plan.
You would be welcome to join up with us, InevitableBetrayal. There is less embarrassment at being a total geek in numbers.
By the way, I was in Iowa City this weekend and went to Artifacts, a used stuff store. There I found a biggish red button that says: "Wash is the best!" Now, of course, this probably is a button for Cedar Rapids Washington HS, but I find that put on a red button it carries a different significance for me and fellow Browncoats.

I'd call the theater..because I understand that they love these fan gatherings...
and I also always heard that the midnight show is just to crank up more money for the opening weekend...
which is good for theater as well as studio
(and not bad for our BDM either)
at any rate I'm leaving the invite to my 'crew' as my signiture until I finally get my 30
(easier to earn more credits with a full crew).

Well, if we were at Jordan Creek, then we would at least have the mall area in front of the theater entrance to be in. I have to say, not bragging, I saw Serenity in K.C. at the last prescreening. The reason I bring this up is because of what a fantastic atmosphere it was. It was a great experience, due largely to the interaction of the fans. My opinion is that the creator, producers, crew, and not the least, the fans have worked too hard on this movie not to enjoy it. We don't all have to "freak" out at every showing, but I think we should at least do it up right for the first showing. And gorramit, I intend to. I will be at the theater wearing my Brown Coat and maybe even an ice planet or two.
Sorry, I will put my soap box away now. But anyone that wants to plan anything, I am in.

I am hyper-jealous you got to see a pre-screening, and I agree that we need to show our fandom, at least for the opening night. I hope that opening night will bring out all sorts of folks and that we can have a "screening" atmosphere. That would be keen.

I may be able to talk the wife into doing a River outfit, though I'm not sure what that would constitute, beyond mussed hair and a sundress...plus she's only just begun on the hair-growing-out. But if you wouldn't mind 2 Jaynes... Although, I wonder if there's a diff costume I could throw together...
I may also be able to talk a couple of my converts into coming along to add to the "screening" atmosphere.
