Chrisisall:

In season 5 the show does start it's turn toward the heavier subject matter. I know you've been reluctant to watch 6 and 7 but you really should watch 5. Some very important events happen in that season and you really should see them. Besides, 5 has what may be my favorite episode, "Fool for Love". But that's not really the point. The point is is that 5 is very important.

As I said, I like 5, but I hate 6 and 7. Yet I encourage you to watch all three of these seasons so you can form your own opinion and not pay so much attention to what we posters say. We all love this show, yet look at the wide range of opinion as to strongest and weakest seasons and episodes.

Since the show jumped networks at the end of 5, there's a definite break between 5 and 6. So I can understand (though discourage) not going on to 6 and 7. But don't stop at 4. Witness the events of 5 and form your own opinion.

Your BUFFY watchin' pal,

Batmarlowe

So give me Max and Logan, Lois and Clark, and Buffy and Riley. They're cool.

Simple Chrisisall

Chrisisall you're so fab! You're right season 4 rocks!

But don't stop - season 5 has some great individual episodes in it (epsecially the season opener) and season six gets pretty good at points too - season 5 is a low point for me, not liking Dawn particularly and all, but I reckon it picks up again in season 6 ... so keep watching ...

And as for tortuous relationships ... Tut tut, Chrisisall!! You don't think that dancing around each other for (exactly) one year and not doing anything, despite fancying each other rotten and then being shot in the heart immediately after the first kiss, followed by another year of being unable to touch, is tortuous?? Then I pity your poor wife!!!

But you’re right. In real life that kind of relationship would suck – as well as being HIGHLY unlikely to happen at all … but, it would appear that the TV watching populous find “nice” content and stable relationships boring as hell, so we have to have torture …. I for one never really believed the Buffy/ Riley ending – which you’ll see in time – I just didn’t believe it would play out that way – but anyway – watch it, see what you think and then let me know ….

Except that it's absolutely awful and a total kneejerk reaction to all the B/A shippers' complaints. Riley should definitely have stuck around.

I respectfully disagree about Riley's exit being a kneejerk reaction to anything. If you watch season 4 carefully, you will see that Buffy's luke-warm feelings for Riley were there from the very beginning, and she NEVER had the passion for Riley that she had for Angel. Riley was always planned by the writers to be the rebound guy.

I know it was pretty obvious he wasn't going to be anything other than the rebound guy, but I honestly hoped they'd take the road less travelled and keep him around despite that. My biggest pet peeve with TV shows is bringing in a regular character for the (relative) short term, and it almost always tends to happen around S4/5. Anyone watched Smallville this year?...

Dude, the season 4 finale was da bomb!
Had the fighting and stunts of a James Bond film! Demons and Initiative troops flying through the air and such!! Explosions galore - this season so rocked. And the Angel/Riley confrontation was perfect. That was tv perfection.

"Most impressive..." Chrisisall

I'm very impressed you've done s4 already - and Riley ain't that bad is he?
Much better looking than David Boreanaz (after Buffy s2 - he went all old and fat, and started tucking his shirts in in that weird way that made him look even more old and fat).
Anyway, (if you got much of that sentence you're doing better than me) - GO RILEY (and apparently) his clone CHRISISALL!

Oh well, he kicks-ass. Says so on MY t-shirt.

I'm so glad I found this. I have been on other sites where people gleefully rip into the Riley character and I have always wondered why? Was his character so bad? The majority of the fans hated him because they will always want Angel with Buffy but did they ever give the Riley character a chance? Did they hate Parker half as much as they hated Riley?

I didn't have a problem with Riley being the love interest. It would have worked for her, she could have someone who could fight beside her and actually see her in daylight. ;-)
