I got this from a completely unrelated mailing list that I'm on, way back around March 7th:

...a feature in the Toronto Star about the end of ENTERPRISE, which features the following exchange between the reporter and series actress Jolene Blalock:

I love this particular source and I'd be happy to site it, but I'm not sure he'd want to be sited....

OK!

I've just seen the finale and I can see where all the concerns are coming from but for me I didnt mind it so much.

The way I look at it Enterprise ended on the second last episode. This finale to me was a finale to the entire Trek thingy.

Its difficult to admit but I got all choked up at the end.

Berman and Bragga totally destoyed the Star Trek franchise. After watching this season with Manny Coto showrunning, you could see what potential the show had. But, in the end, B&B come in and screw it up. Trip was totally out of character in his last scene and that scene itself was so inane. Those two need to do a kiddy show, that's their intelligience level.

I wonder when the last episode was meant to be set? Data died in the last movie but he talks to Troi in this ep.

It was set in the Season 7 Episode "The Pegasus".

The Pegasus Stardate 47457.1: Admiral Erik Pressman leads the Enterprise on a mission to recover the U.S.S. Pegasus which he and Riker, at that time one of his junior officers, had to abandon years ago. He doesn't tell Picard the whole story, and he demands that Riker be silent about the events on the Pegasus. Actually, Pressman was testing a phase cloaking device, illegal according to the Treaty of Algeron, the crew mutinied, and the few crew members loyal to their captain had to leave the ship. When they discover traces of the ship, Pressman orders the Enterprise to enter a narrow rift leading into the interior where they find the Pegasus, partially submerged in the solid rock. Obviously the phase cloak suddenly failed. Aboard the Pegasus Pressman and Riker are going to salvage the cloaking device, but a Romulan Warbird has sealed the entry to the asteroid, leaving the Enterprise trapped. Riker reveals Pressman's secret, and the phase cloaking is installed on the Enterprise, so that the ship can pass through the solid rock. In open space Picard orders the cloak to be deactivated, because he wants to make Pressman's violation of the treaty public.

WOW! I forgot about that one! Goes to show you the stellar writing that went into TNG, and was sadly lacking from Enterprise.

I started, like a good trekkie, watching Enterprise, but when they panned up and down the scantily clad torso of Topal (sp?) I wanted to retch. That topped the spandex and high heeled Seven-of-Nine from Voyager, at least that series wasn't so gratuitous about pandering to the hormonally raged teenage male demographic as Enterprise was.

I think Blalock's assessment of the finale as "apalling" may be too kind. I only started watching the show seriously this season because it was actually very good, but the finale was just terrible. There's a review on cinescape.com that pretty much says everything I thought about it (except that they think Blalock was marginally too hard on it).

Bugboy, no offense, but Trek has always been, to some degree, about using sex to sell. Anyone remember the Orion slave girls from the original series? How about the uniforms the female crewmembers wore? For their day, Uhura, Chapel and Rand were probably MORE risque than T'Pol.

Yes, I agree, but you can have sex appeal and then you can have porn. The torso pan in Enterprise was porn, was intended to be porn, and those previous instances were sex appeal. Besides the fact that the Orion dancer was part of the plot, and I saw little that added to the plot by a close examination of T'pal's torso. It wasn't even from Trip's viewpoint so there's a disconnect in the scene if it was to elude to some relationship they may or may not have in the future. It was gratuitous porn.

As I said, even 7-of-9 was sexually appealing, but not to the effect that it was glaringly obvious. You didn't even notice how 7-of-9 could manage in high heels in action shots, but you could count the threads on T'pal's skimpy t-shirt. Why they didn't just go ahead and soak her down in cold water is a mystery to me.

Again, it's all about context. I don't really see how anyone can all T'Pol "pornographic," but not include the T&A of the original series' Orion slave girls (far more extreme for the era in which it was broadcast).

Personally, I find T'Pol's outfits no more "offensieve" than 7-of-9's: they're just different. T'Pol is more about blatant, Britney Spears-style midriff bearing, whereas 7-of-9 is pretty much a dominatrix. Pick you're poison, but if one's "porn", the other is, too.

Not that I think there's anything particularly wrong with that T&A sells sci fi. Always has (go back and look at the covers of the pulps), always will.
