Well that sounds like a goddamned masterpiece compared to Borderlands.

Literally nobody asked for this remake. Any Emo depressed kid in school has already seen the original and loved it, not to mention they're never going to re-create the lore and immortality of the original after Brandon Lee died.
Everybody responsible for green lighting this should immediately be fired and never offered another job in the industry again.
And unlike other movies Hollywood has ruined with endless remakes and reboots, I didn't even care much for the original myself. It is a mid movie.

China just got another entry into the Top 10 for 2024. It's on the low end, so it's just displacing a US movie that would have been displaced if the US managed to take over the top 10 by the end of the year anyhow, but China even being able to add another movie to the Top 10 in the last week in August is pretty pathetic.
US has the Top 6, then it's "YOLO" with $479,597,304 in 7th, "Pegasus 2" with $466,930,272 in 8th, and "Successor" with $438,580,182 in 9th.
So summer time came and went and the only 3 movies that managed over half a billion during the summer blockbuster season were 2 kids movies and Deadpool & Wolverine.
Can Hollywood pull out 4 more before the year is over?
Maybe. Some of the movies that they put out in December did rather well into the new year.
Nothing that remains in theaters right now is going to help.

Adventures In The Screen Trade by William Goldman (1984)
This book was begun at the greatest time of panic and despair in modern Hollywood history - late January of '82. Future film scholars may well term it "the Heaven's Gate era." And certainly that movie received more media coverage than any other contemporary disaster.
But only a few enlightened bookkeepers will know for sure if it lost more than, say, Raise the Titanic! or Honky Tonk Freeway.
During the holiday season of '81-'82, sixteen films were released by the major studios. Of those, only one - On Golden Pond - was a runaway success. And ten of the sixteen each lost more than ten million dollars. One major studio executive told me recently, "Of course the failures are upsetting. But there have always been failures. What's got us so immobilized now is that whatever it is that we're making, we're missing the audience by a wider margin than ever before. We don't know what they want. All we do know is that they don't want what we're giving them."
Perhaps the key word above is immobilized. By the end of February, only ten films will have begun production. At the same time a year ago, twenty-five had started shooting.
Again, this is the worst period within memory. By the time this book sees print, it may well be the best period within memory. The point being this: Movies are a gold-rush business.
Anyone interested in what follows had best commit that fact to memory....
What follows, generically speaking, is a book about Hollywood. It may not come as a total shock to you if I say this is not the first attempt to mine that subject.
All I can provide that is different is my point of attack: I have been, for close to twenty years now, a screenwriter. I have seen a lot, learned more than a little - most of it, alas, too late.
In terms of authority, screenwriters rank somewhere between the man who guards the studio gate and the man who runs the studio (this week). And there is a whole world to which we are not privy. And I thought it may be helpful to know at least something about just what is taking place Out There. With that in mind, I've interviewed a number of people who work the other side of the street: studio executives, producers, directors, and stars. By the time we're done, it's my hope that you'll understand a good deal more about why you see what you see on the screen.

With only 3 months remaining, I'm growing less and less confident that Hollywood is going to box out China from the Top 10 worldwide in 2024.
China currently holds the 7th, 8th and 9th place movies, which all range from $465.5 Million to $480 Million.
Deadpool & Wolverine was the last to beat them, and that was a while ago.
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice isn't going to do it with almost Zero international interest.
Any bets on which movies still coming out this year that can gross half a billion?

Transformers flops or does it, so what else?
So at this time of year you have 3 more Dates for money...
1 Thanksgiving mostly a US national holiday but also celebrated by others on various dates in October and November in the United States, Canada, Liberia, and unofficially in countries like Brazil
2 Halloween typically a 'Horror' does well at this time
3 Christmas and New Years period a type of Animation or Family movie or Kids movie
Transformers One’s Box Office Could Mark Chris Hemsworth’s 2nd Flop in 2024

I think Hollywood has a chance to get more half Billion but Chinese can do it also. There will be more from Latin America, China, South Korea, India, Japan...could one of them get back into the Top Ten? Sometimes a Chinese film can do good in the November to New Years period, Successor 'Zhua wa wa' is still making money and starting to gain on YOLO and Pegasus 2
Mickey 17 is somewhat Korean but also Hollywood delays, Warner Bros but I think its delayed until 2025
India can push close to $310,500,000 but not half a Billion..impossible for now
there is also
Woman of the Hour from Hollywood a serial killer thing, probably too dark to make money.
Red One its Santa suits and Hollywood action comedy but its out November not December
Venom and Kraven...both Sony studio so its kind of Hollywood / Disney / Marvel but Hollywood will share the profit with a Japan company, I am not aware of any new Japan video game anime franchise but there is Sega's 'Sonic', profit might be shared among Paramount and Blur Studio and Japan's Sega
LOTR Anime Netflix

It lacks something so why are they doing it maybe because The War of the Rohirrim cartoon only needs to make $200 million to turn The Lord of the Rings into a $6 billion franchise.
The French films nobody cares about them anymore, France lost whatever factor that made people watch their films...its uncool now and Macron makes the French culture seem moronic.
the South Korean films and shows stream well, Japan and S.Korea both did well on home DVD video and download sales but they don't make big money across international cinema
Mandarin / Chinese language is the big Hollywood challenger for now.
Joker Madness of 2... Folie à Deux ...seeing mixed feedback.
Moana 2 and Sonic the Hedgehog 3 will make money? Nosferatu should be out for Halloween but another mistake arrives, they release it December.
Factor in Election Year, movies sometimes to less well during election year, Hollywood has badly manged distribution and adverts I expect more flops before the year is finished.

I forgot about Joker 2.
I won't be watching that one, but I think it would have to be spectacularly awful to not break half a billion after the first one became what is now the 3rd highest grossing R-Rated film when adjusted for inflation. It was already going to be a hard sell for me after the first one. Lady Gaga's inclusion is what seals the deal on me not watching this.
Hollywood's going to need 3 more movies to crack half a billion and hope that China's peak is only around $485 Million if they want the Top 10 to themselves.
Interestingly though, this wouldn't be the first year that they didn't. Without going back through the years to look into it right now, I do know that China has had one or two in the Top 10 on more than one occasion over the last 10 years. I was surprised when I saw that. I was looking for something else at the time when I realized this.

There was Taylor Swift so...others will try copy that success box office formula
Could a K-Pop boyband thing make it into the top ten...but so far 722 opening theaters...maybe not good enough. However if it hits number 1 in some regions and countries it could cost others their box office profits
‘Jung Kook: I Am Still’ lands in box office Top 10 in North America

also selling in Portugal and Australia now, based on real world events not fantasy...others of the genre movies and story and documentary like Taylor Swift, Fahrenheit 9/11, Pocahontas, Bohemian Rhapsody, Braveheart, Captain Phillips, Erin Brockovich also based on real events.

Nobody is going to replicate the Taylor Swift thing. Everybody in Hollywood thought that Beyonce would, and she pulled in pennies compared to Taylor. After that, it looks like they've all but pulled the plug on the concert movie idea. I think if Beyonce did well we would have seen at least 3 more similar attempts since by now.
In a world without Hannah Montana, Taylor Swift is the next best thing. I think the only person outside of Miley's Montana in the last 25 years that could have done what Taylor did last year was Britney Spears... 20 years ago. Christina Aguleara is probably an honorable mention and I think she would have done well, but nowhere near as well as Spears did. I don't think many people would have gone to see Jessica/Ashlee Simpson or Mandy Moore do a concert in the theaters during Spears' time.
KPOP has a chance to make the Top 10 for a weekend, depending on the group and how weak the Hollywood box office is on that particular weekend. Never 1st place, but a decent Top 10 showing. But that's still a really niche thing here in America. It may have taken off in other countries and stuck, but I think most people here outside of die-hard fans view it more as a novelty than anything else.
ETA: Actually, there's some REAL signs that the girls have already moved on from Taylor and if she tried to replicate her own success next year she'd fall on her face.
Swift's endorsement of Kamala after the debate actually seems to have hurt Harris, rather than help her. There are actually a ton of Tik Tok videos now of girls wearing MAGA and/or Trump shirts lip-synching one of Taylor's songs and then inserting some rap song with Trump in it at the end, letting people know that they're hot and 20-something Taylor Swift fans who are voting Trump.
