If you'd have asked me in the first half of the year what Venom was going to open to, it wouldn't have been close to $60 Million. Hell... even after the box office picked up a little once summer started I'm still surprised to see Venom 3 get $60 Million. Comic book movies are dead, but I guess this one was far enough removed from everything else and did have a fan base.
They still spent too much on it though. It almost sounds like a modest budget these days at only $110 Million. That means $275 Million to break even.
I think it will get there, but why so expensive? It's not going to make a lot of money above that break even point.

comicbook movies seem to be more or less over, maybe not extinct but the era has come to an ungraceful end.
the trends in worldwide gross the past years, not all the same but in general comicbook superhero movies were an easy successful hit but now moving to a struggle and many loss with Joker 2 and The Marvels fighting for the bottom
culture has also changed, failure is tolerated leadership, directors, bad producers are supported...in the past "flops" would not be tolerated, heads would be on the block. There would be lots of anger no printed money, everyone after to call out DEI islamo feminist SJW politics put into tinsek town tv shows and movies. Nobody leads and very few can control "mid-level executives" or creatives....in the past this was different, the entertainment industry expected results in the show, music, art, visuals, acting and sound. Deadpool & Wolverine performance did good...that was the old Marvel entertainment...the fail was less tolerated in the past but today a company gets Blackrock Vanguard printed Fed money or a tax payer bailout in California the flop is allowed and the system just writes them off. Artistic Property destroyed, absolute incompetence continues, CEOs somehow keep their job while destroying an entertainment industry.

At this time of year, there is an official vacation across the globe or maybe not....while The type of 'Horror' genre usually does good this weekend. What vaction cycles does Hollywood make more money on? What time of year or festival do people go to cinema more...The Sun around our Earth equinox , Summer solstice, equinox, then some type of Harvest or Dead Celebration and a Winter solstice...months March, sometimes a May summer festival fits into a culture, then June, September, maybe another Dead or Harvest Festival and Yule / Krampus Pagan December Christmas NewYear celebration.

Parts of Canada celebrate the 11th of November Remembrance Day Jour du Souvenir. Tasmania and Victoria in Australia have some celebration or vacation holiday on 1st of November or first Tuesday in November but the rest of Australia does not have this vacation. Spain has the 1st of November All Saints' Day or Día de todos los Santos, Mexico and other parts of Latin America seem to have their own Halloween Occult looking celebration the Day of the Dead el Día de Muertos or el Día de los Muertos celebrated on 1st or 2nd November or earlier in October or later in November through other days, some argue that there are Indigenous Mexican or ancient Aztec influences that account for the custom, the Chinese have a similar vacation or holiday period Mid-Autumn Festival the Autumn / Fall season celebration of harvest and togetherness and 1st of October a celebration for 3 days called National Day. If your culture is from the Equator Circle of latitude its possible seasonal changes did not happen and did not matter so much with people, so that could explain why a vacation is not marked at this time of year but in other parts of the world there seems to be a holiday.

Looks like Venom 3 only got a projection of $51 Million from Sony. They probably lowballed that, so it should be a little higher. That's a bit closer to what I would have expected a 3rd venom movie to do in 2024.
It must have opened early outside of the US, because there's no way that it pulled in $124 Million internationally in the same time frame as it made $51 Million in the US.
So it's already at $175 Million. It needs $100 Million to break even. Assuming it's not complete dog shit and also assuming that the early openings don't alter the future results down too hard, it shouldn't have a problem crossing that milestone.
But like I said before... why so expensive?

It made $57k on Monday and $75k on Cheap Seat Tuesday in the states. It's not going to come close to $100 Million in the US sitting only at $58 Million now.
If you want a great laugh, check out the drops from the 4 weekends it's been in theaters. I've never seen anything like it. It dropped like a stone. And this is a great example of how a lower than expected opening weekend and large early drops effect the rest of a movie's run.
WEEKEND 1: $37,678,467
WEEKEND 2: $7,002,654 (-81% Drop)
WEEKEND 3: $2,146,800 (-69% Drop)
WEEKEND 4: $584,496 (-71% Drop)
From $37.5 Million on opening weekend to barely over half a million on Weekend 4. Unbelievable.
$200 Million is a very low figure. WB loses at least $250 Million on this one, or more than $60 Million above what they paid to make it in the first place.
Its only hope is that international figures continue to bail it out. Like the first movie, it is making quite a bit more outside of the states than inside the states. As of today, 71.2% of the box office is from overseas. I don't have access to any real international numbers except for whatever Bruce posts, in the almost meaningless way he posts them, whenever he gets around to them. So I can't say for sure how bad the crash was outside of the States since you have no idea of a weekly breakdown of international numbers looks like unless you were following the movie from the beginning by the day and documenting these numbers as they were posted.
I'm going to assume the international drop was just as bad as the US drop until proven otherwise. This movie needed $475 Million to break even, and there's a very good chance it won't even see $225 Million.
