The average rent people pay around here equals roughly what I made the last full year I worked minus a few thousand dollars. I don't have to pay that. It's why I purposefully moved to a place with extremely low taxes too.
I don't have to answer to anybody. I work when I want to and on my terms. I have more free time than any person under retirement age probably has a right to. I sleep when I want to. I eat when I want to. I learn what I want to. All of this, of course, on my own terms and whenever I feel like it.
I have a roof over my head. Zero debt. A credit score so high that they throw roughly $600 tax free at me every year to try out their cards. I've not worried about how a bill was going to be paid for or where my next meal was coming from in 20 years. And I have the knowledge that I provided all of that for myself.
Do I make some things harder for myself than I need to? I'm sure the answer to that is yes.
But nothing beats being able to tell your manager who is 10 years younger than you and 50 IQ points lower than you where to shove his or her job if the terms change and you don't like them. It's even more satisfying when they immediately backpedal on whatever they were talking about because their smarter side instantly realizes that I'm serious and they don't want to lose their best employee. Unfortunately, in the modern world of buy-outs, mergers and downsizing, some pindick pencil pusher comes around and makes a bunch of cuts that are out of anybody's control, but it's not as if I'm a stranger to that happening at this point. I'll be employed again at some point, and I have no doubt that The Bob's are going to be there one day to fire me again too.
My "luxury" in life is F - I.W.
And unless you're among the insanely wealthy, that's something that money can't ever buy. It's a state of mind. It's a lifestyle.
I am where I am because that was and is my choice, and somewhere along the line I made enough money and saved it to allow me to live this way.
And I don't really care what anybody else thinks about it either.
So, Second/Marcos... What's on your agenda for tomorrow? Buying and selling oil or lighting trashcans on fire?
